Keaolha vs Hawaii County
« on: July 09, 2025, 08:34:37 AM »
Guy was given permission to shoot wild boar on his friends property. A neighbor heard gunshots and called cops.  Cops came and left without arrest or citation issued.

Guy wants to buy a new gun and applied for a permit to acquire and was denied because of this.  He was also told he has to turn in all his guns.

He has not been charged with a crime, so no court date.

Attorney's Alan Beck and Kevin O'Grady are representing him.

Karens rule in hawaii.  Our leaders love Karens.

When Karens rule, your rights mean shiite.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

Hopefully the lawyers are seeking half a million bucks for infringing on the guy's rights.

Based on the facts provided, what could the police department possibly cite as justification for the denial?  If he's using his firearm in a lawful manner, there has to be more for there to be a denial.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Big Island PD doesn't know the law.  I mean, even with their most recent changes to their CCW/online process,it's only now getting a public hearing.  It was supposed to get one a while ago.

Then Honolulu PD had to get sued even after a judge ordered someone to get their guns back.  HPD refused.  He had to sue them to finally get his guns back Roa vs. Honolulu PD (?, not sure if it's HPD or C&C or other entity).

Hawaii county goes off an old firearms policy which is why they're updating it now.

Civil rights attorneys don't make much on these cases.  Just low attorneys fees for time worked.  Unless the plaintiff pays out of pocket.  Might get $10k to 15k each or something like that, depending how far this goes.

If zoned ag, can shoot as long as bullet doesn’t go out of your property.  Where I live in Puna, neighbors don’t care and gunshots are common.

I don’t shoot firearms for target practice anymore.  I only shoot live things, pigs and other feral animals that I don’t want on my property.

For SD practice, since my SD pistol is a Glock 19, I use a Umarex G19 clone, that uses CO2 and cheap BBs.
Happily living in Puna

If a similar situation happened on Oahu, will HPD deny? Officers show up at a possible domestic call. Find no crime. Just family argument. No arrest no report.

This is the problem with HPD, it should be automatic that it wont' affect your 2a right.  But since they do have a track record of making stuff up, it's unknown.

Hawaii County PD rescinds their letter to Kealoha to turn in all his guns.  Meaning they were wrong and lost.

Another win for the 2A right.

Will Hawaii County have to pay for Kealoha's legal fees?

Hawaii County "loss".  Kealoha gets to keep his guns.
