Strategies and Tactics / Re: Worst Modern Home Defense Guns

I own none of the guns on this list. . .

The holsters from T1 and ANR came in for the 43x.  Did some test fitting and the ANR's retention is tighter than I like, but seems like it's a function of fitting of the mold on certain points vice the level of clamping.  Will see if I notice during testing, but I'm guessing not.  Have some range days coming up and will likely shoot the qual again with these new holsters.  The ride height adjustment range is about the same, but slight differences on how they end up "sitting".  That's mostly a function of the various attachment methods.  Don't think it will be a big deal, but want/need to verify.

It came out great. Couldnt find any blemishes in the coating. Tbh their nitriding looks almost identical to the factory DLC. Maybe just a touch darker shade. If I didnt know any better I'd think they were the same.
Cool.  I've been checking out Maple and Primary Machine out for a Glock 17 and maybe my CZ 75.   Really want to try the nitride.  My bold gun actions are nitride finish and while totally different context, I like the durability of the finish, especially since my pistols get quite a bit of wear.

Either the rmr or the HD. The non HD rmr is like $510 and they will install optic for free. Gonna have them move the rear sight in front of the optic and purchase some Ameriglo XL tritium sights which they will also install for free.

Not sure if the rmr HD is worth the extra $150 over the type 2 rmr
Nice!  I am waiting for the RCR to come back in stock.  I have a couple of guns with RMR, as well as a few guns with EPS (reg & carry) and ACRO.  I like the EPS and ACRO, but had my mind set on trying the RCR.

I have shot the HD RMR and it seems "about the same" to me as the RMRs I currently have (all Type 2).  I read and watched reviewed that mentioned the new features are a plus.

Legal and Activism / Re: Unregistered
« on: April 12, 2024, 01:37:22 PM »
Asking for a friend.  He has a PTA.  Somebody offered to sell a firearm they say is not registered.  Can he take it in to get it registered and legal?  What if it actually was registered, or worse, even stolen?
Recommend having the seller clarify registration status.  Never registered?  Unknown registration status?  Etc.

A couple of friends went through similar when they purchased a bunch of guns through an estate sale, where at least one turned up wasn't registered under the seller (deceased husband).  I went through similar with a pistol that I inherited from my dad where the registration was "misfiled".

Not sure if Maui PD process and folks will approach same as what I went through, as well as my buddies.  For my case, HPD misfiled the registration paperwork (during transition from paper to electronic), so gun showed up as registered to owner prior to my dad.  HPD wouldn't disclose who it was registered under (which I can understand).  So transfer or chain of ownership put into question, which my understanding is one of the main things, so would have been treated as unregistered and confiscated.  At least what I was told by multiple folks at firearms registration and a couple who went through similar.  Luckily they ended up finding the paperwork, so ended up all good.

Another friend went through unregistered pistol that his father brought back from the war.  So when he passed, he inherited.  In that case, HPD acknowledged transfer of ownership through the will and my friend registered like normal.

Anyways, just sharing experiences that I and buddies went through.  Not a lawyer, expert, etc. . . Proceed at our own discretion. . .

at least he isn't burning his hand on the FSP
how do you know he didn't later on?

and no, you didn't say he didn't later on. . .

I have seen "instructors" teaching similar at KHSC, where "student" got scoped. . . but I digress. . .

Preparedness and Survival / Re: White river knives

I have a few, all in S35VN

https://www.knifecenter.com/item/WTWRBPPROCBITBL/white-river-knives-m1-pro-backpacker-fixed-blade-knife-325-s35vn-black-ionbond-textured-black-g10-handles-kydex-sheath

I have a couple ESEE in1095. Super easy to sharpen, but needs more attention in Hawaii (like mentioned above). Most of my recent knives are S35VN or M390. I don’t think they are as hard to sharpen as they have a rep for. They hold edge really well and stainless performance is quite good.

I called maple leaf today, super professional and helpful over the phone. There optics prices were pretty close to Amazon prices too.
RMR HD?  Or you going with Holosun with RMR footprint?

This discussion has me looking into milling my CZ 75 SP-01 now. . . haven't shot that gun in a while and an RDS will likely have me shooting it more.

Sent my "1st generation" Gen 5 Glock 34 slide off to them to get front slide serrations and a bob cut on the dust covered milled in and nitride coated afterwards. Beautiful work. They actually sand blasted in between the serrations and on the bob cut to give it that factory texture on the newly milled areas. I liked thay attention to detail.

Had one of my other glock slided milled by CHPWS and they just milled and recoated. In the valley of the serrations are glossy compared to the rest of the slide with that has the glock textured finish.
How did the nitride finish come out?  I've been thinking of going that route on another slide, instead of cerakote.

Sorry OP for the tangent. . .

Does anybody know the story of how and why Moku‘ula got turned into a ballfield in the first place?

Green's instincts seem to be of the authoritarian sort, but it also seems like everybody would prefer a unique "historic" site rather than a baseball diamond.
My thoughts too.  It's like:

Green: "Here's a legislation to try to get you to do what I want" (ask)

Community via testimony, feedback, etc: Hellz no

Green: "Ok, I'll go behind your back" (force)

While the details are still being worked out, the executive action Green says he intends to take follows the death of two bills this legislative session that set out to accomplish similar goals. Those measures drew significant opposition, with much of the criticism coming from early versions that had government authorities on Oahu controlling the parameters of a cultural corridor and shaping the pond’s restoration.

Keeaumoku Kapu, left, and Archie Kalepa talk about the restoration of Lahaina, March 12, 2024. (Nathan Eagle/Civil Beat/2024)
Ke‘eaumoku Kapu, left, and Archie Kalepa visited the site of Moku‘ula in March and discussed its restoration.
The governor said he was clear with Lopez and Chang. He wants them to prepare for a land transfer so that the Moku‘ula and Mokuhinia parcel is put in a trust, or some similar status, to be managed by the Lahaina community, likely by Kapu and his nonprofit Na Aikane o Maui or similar cultural organization.

“Decisions about Lahaina should be made by the people of Lahaina,” Green said.

Uh. . .  :wtf:

Besides the details of the proposal, this will be interesting.  It's been almost 20+ years since I did a HDOT project in Lahaina, but the community groups there were VERY vocal and active. . .

I've had 3 pistols milled by Thrash Tactical (via DCT).  Great work!

There are a number of companies that offer it.  I have a GC for C&H, but heard mixed reviews about them  :(

Trained on a VTAC barrier with a red dot yesterday.  It is so much easier and can be more accurate and quicker as your eye can be slightly out of alignment with the bore or the gun rotated.  Like rotating the gun 90 degrees.  It can be done with irons, but more difficult and slower to do.
I've noticed the positional shooting aspect, especially with red dots on rifle.  Somewhat with handguns.  One thing I did notice with VTAC is watch out for the height over bore.  Didn't put holes in the barrier, but there are plenty holes in barriers that have been "signed".

I got a TLR7 on my Glock 48.  Doesn't add much to the size.

But like night sights, weapon mounted lights have a relatively small set of circumstances where they would be used. And majority of civilian CCWers don't train the proper use of them.
Not sure if I mentioned in this thread or training thread, but RDS with no/low light and using white light is one aspect where RDS is really helpful.  As for training, yeah, not many opportunities in Hawaii.

A Montana woman known as the "Housewife prepper" is helping millions of people get ready for emergencies and be prepared in the event of a natural disaster, conflict with a foreign nation or another pandemic.

The "Housewife Prepper" TikTok and Instagram pages were started in 2023 by Carrie, a California native who lives in Bozeman, Montana, with her husband, Colton.

Her first video was posted after last year's Chinese balloon incident when the high-altitude device flew across North American airspace. The U.S. Air Force eventually shot it down off the coast of South Carolina.

"I was like, oh my gosh, you know, this is a no-controlled situation. We need to start preparing for anything," Carrie told Fox News Digital. "We're allowing this other country in our airspace, like what's next?

Carrie and Colton said personal self-defense should be the top focus for those preparing for a potential disaster.

"Saturday Night Live" took a crack at President Biden during the "Weekend Update" segment by comparing him to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, Maryland.

"President Biden said Friday that he would visit the site of the Baltimore bridge collapse because, like that bridge, Biden is no longer connecting with Black communities," comedian Michael Che said.

After the crowd erupted in laughter, the camera cut to Che's colleague Colin Jost, who smiled and let out an audible "wow."

"wow"  ???

92% support, really?

1) Just because no nuclear armed nation has launched nukes against a nuclear peer should not serve as any proof that nuclear confrontation is not a real possibility in the future.  You still fail to realize that past and current proxy wars as well as near close calls to WWIII are not evidence that nuclear buttons will not be pushed during WWIII.

Furthermore, you seem to believe it would be nations other than the US empire that will initiate a nuclear exchange.  I would offer the same fate of total destruction is also true for the US empire, if it decided to utilize nukes against a nuclear peer.

2) I could not stop laughing in your position that all the conflicts the US empire has participated pre and post-WWII were in essence to preserve peace and democracy.

SNIP
1) You seem to be an expert, so please share with the class where nuclear buttons will be pushed during WWIII?  You seem to be the only one who "realizes" what is REALLY going on in the world of geopolitics, leading to "vassal states" playing a game of Global Thermonuclear War.  [slight sarcasm in there]

2) So is it your position that all conflicts the "US empire" participated in were not to preserve peace and democracy?  That time period covers quite a number of conflicts.  Or are you only referring to the ones that fit your narrative?  What about "conflicts" that were never made public?

No light on CC, I don't travel out at night.
Besides, with my trim figure, would be hard to conceal.
Working the G43 and S & W Airweight

TLR 7 on HD G19 with Holosun 407.

Yeah, saw a recent pic of "less" of you, bet that feels better, but now you can't use your belly to convert your IWB holster into a level 2 holster.
With my 19 or 17 with TLR 7A, the holster bulk isn't noticable, since it's on the grip side of the barrel.  I also have a 43x for CCW, but no light rail version.

Feels good overall.  Now there's other methods of "replicating level 2"  ;D
