So...what was the price for a helicopter rescue now?
I talked to a HFD guy this afternoon on the Koko Head Trail involved in the helicopter transport of an injured hiker. I told him I heard hikers are charged $3500.00 for a helicopter rescue. He laughed and said there is not a charge unless he needs an ambulance ride.

Yes you can do an open permit or provide seller info and serial number, either way you need to register in person at HPD.

I have done the blank permit a couple of times and purchased new, out of the display case firearms at HGS and SEC and had to do in person registration at HPD as instructed by HPD, SEC and HGS.

Then there's the issue of shooting at a fleeing criminal.  He's not a threat to you, and I don't think kidnapping is included in the rules of self defense.  Will the court look at that as a justified shooting?  Only rape, severe bodily harm and loss of life are legal grounds for using deadly force in most defense cases.

Deadly force is justifiable to prevent a kidnapping.

General Discussion / Re: Shipping Ammo to Oahu or Just buy local ?
« on: August 19, 2025, 08:37:02 PM »
Looks to me like, unless you have an FFL, you can't  order ammo  powder, or primers to be shipped to Hawaii. Am I wrong? I hope so. You can order projectiles and brasd.
You do not need an FFL to order ammo, powder or primers to be shipped to Hawaii (yes you are wrong). You do need to order a large quantity to offset the ocean freight / hazmat fee. Ordering powder for example, may have a flat rate freight / hazmat fee of $450.00 for one to 100 pounds. Best (most economical) is to order 100 pounds but that's around $3,000.00 to $5,000 for the powder plus the $450.00 freight / hazmat fee. Unfortunately that example was using Powder Valley which just had a big fire. See the earlier post using Kaleo Arms if you want to order ammo.

Pondering the fire yesterday....
What if a fire were to start behind the rifle/pistol range.
Would that not burn up the rail tracks going up to the lookout?

People might get stuck on top of the hill.
People might have to run either up or down the tracks to escape the fire.
There are a couple of other ways to get up and down Koko Head besides the stairs . . . hiking the ridge.

Since people are so desperate to go up there, the city should charge admission.
Use the money to pay for all the helicopter rescue missions.
Why should I (we) have to pay for these rescue missions?
What I have heard is if you get a helicopter ride down you pay $3500.00.

Off Topic / Re: Amazon Delivery Seems to be Getting Worse
« on: June 23, 2025, 11:16:41 PM »
I am not trying to change the subject but it seems like Amazon is charging more than the 4.16% tax.
I just bought an item for $39.59 from Amazon. The after tax price is $41.45. It seems like they are
charging at least 4.7%. I realize that they have some leeway on what they charge us but 4.7% ?
Most companies doing business on Oahu add 4.712%. The business I work for does, 0% for tax exempt customers like military, 1/2% for resale customers and 4.712% for everyone else. I believe there's a 1/2%  rail tax added to the GET on Oahu. :stopjack:

I’m sitting in LAX on my way home from Vegas. Stayed at the park mgm. Years ago I enjoyed going to Vegas play the 1 cent and 5 cent slots and had a ball, cheap grindz. Those days are gone the place is filthy, people rude. You need an electrical engineering degree or be fucked up on booze to play the machines now and know what the fuck is going on. Unless you want to sell your first born for a good dinner the food is lousy. $5 for a bottle of water in the ABC store.
Nope nope nope…..never again. Vegas can rot…… :grrr:

I have never been to Las Vegas, probaby never will.
