I think I can figure out why the bridge collapsed and I'm not a civil engineer nor a physicist

Political Discussion / Chase or no chase? who's fault? Criminal but kind.
« on: November 11, 2025, 08:12:11 PM »
I don't get the logic behind this:

The family says at least one witness told them police were pursuing Enos. Nearly four years later, multiple investigations are ongoing, but few details have been released to Enos’ family.

“My brother was wrong for running from the cops. Period. If he didn’t run from the cops, the accident probably wouldn’t have happened,” Paiva said. “But I don’t think that the cops should have chased him for whatever their reasons were.”

While Enos had a lengthy criminal record including numerous traffic and other offenses, his family described him as a good man who simply fell in with the wrong crowd. He was a father of four who enjoyed hunting, fishing and fixing cars.

“He had the most kindest heart. He helped people even when he was struggling, and his family was struggling. And knowing that they can’t help him back, he helped them with no intention of them, you know, reimbursing that help,” Paiva said.

I have never heard or saw on social media any EBT recipients who were thankful. ALmost all say its "their" benefit. I "deserve" this. No thanks to the working middle class families whose income were diverted. No gratefulness.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/11/10/we-are-not-done-with-this-fight-hawaii-senators-reject-deal-reopen-government/

The U.S. Senate voted Sunday to move forward on passing legislation that would reopen the federal government.

But it did so without the support of Hawaii’s two senators.

Both Sens. Mazie Hirono and Brian Schatz said the compromise, which does not include a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies, fails to address rising health care costs for millions of Americans.

“We are not done with this fight,” said Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii. “We are going to keep fighting to try to salvage this situation for the tens of millions of Americans who are going to see their health care costs double.”

Off Topic / Re: What happened to the Vegas I used to know.....smh
« on: November 05, 2025, 11:31:15 PM »
To address the 90,000 rooms being empty in Vegas:

The CEO's admit that they are catering to the higher end Vegas visitor (the whales).

And they don't want the "savvy" gambler/visitors.  These are the experienced visitors that know the best odds on games, know the player programs and how to take advantage of them, know the games that has the lowest house edge, etc. etc.

But I think they were still banking on the "newbie" Vegas visitors.  These are the clueless, come of age people that don't know any better and just want to have a great time.  They don't know anything about which games to play or which slots have better pay-outs.  And they don't know or care that that bottle of beer they bought for $11 cost only $3 a couple of years ago.

I believe these are the people the CEO's were hoping to fill those empty rooms left by the more savvy players.  These people will be willing to pay the resort fees, parking fees, and $50 burgers and $26 waters that are now defining the Strip.

Problem is, we live in the social media age.  Where information is shared and available in a microsecond.  People are sharing and in that sharing is valuable information and experiences being absorbed by the newbies prior to them visiting Vegas.

Maybe the CEO's overlooked this aspect and now the "newbies" are also informed about the rip-offs waiting for them in Vegas.

And they too, are not coming.

I just can't see how the CEO's and their cohorts can just bank on the whales alone.

Whales don't occupy regular rooms, don't eat at McD's and the like, and won't be seen dead at the Food Halls, what few buffets are left, and the ABC's and Walgreens that dot the landscape of the Strip.

The whales will look around, see all the empty places and say "F*ck this, this is boring, I'm going somewhere else......"

this is the path Hawaiinis taking. We want "eco" tourists..the so-called high end tourists. On top of tjat we want tourists to "give back" i.e. plant taro etc. Yeah, how many people want to do labor whike on vacay?!

Rogerio Araujo from Brazil is being held at the Federal Detention Center.

His wife, former Miss Hawai’i Cheryl Bartlett, said they have been trying to obtain citizenship for him for years but were delayed by clerical errors.

“He received a notice of deportation and I’m so sorry, but that’s not okay,” Bartlett said. “I love him beyond measure and I need him to stay.”

A senior Department of Homeland Security official said in a statement regarding Araujo:

“Rogerio Carlos Barbosa Araujo, an illegal alien from Brazil, has overstayed his extended B2 Visitor Visa by more than a quarter of a century, made a false claim on a federal form, and failed to appear before an immigration judge.

“Arujo’s Application for Permanent Residency was denied on November 23, 2012, for making a false claim. He failed to appear before the immigration judge in Honolulu on August 29, 2025, so he was ordered removed in absentia. OnOctober 28, he was interviewed and admitted he was in the country illegally. He acknowledges thathe has no fear of being returned to his home country of Brazil. He was given full due process.

“When you are in the country illegally, overstay your visa, make a false claim on a federal form, and fail to appear before your immigration judge, you should expect to get deported. If Arujo is deported, nothing prevents his wife from going to Brazil with him.”

So shame if I am a local politician. Extreme incompetence in management or blatantly ripping off the people. We deserve the government we elect. I don't plan to retire here. There's no future

I heard they are planning on stealing the wheels off of police cars.

If so I'm sure the cops will work tirelessly to catch them.
