As far as waste I remember one family I saw at the buffet with huge plates of food leftover.  I would say more than 50% of the food they took were not touched and these were items like crab legs and prime rib.  My heart sank when I saw this.  As much as I enjoy watching people enjoy their food I don't like to see waste.
[snippy]

It's not always each person getting more than they themselves can eat.  Sometimes it's everyone loading up the table for all to share even though not everyone wants to gorge themselves on crab legs or lobster.

But the people trying to record content by annoying the businesses and other customers need to be trespassed and kicked out.

So much Chinese themed slot machines in almost every casino, whether they cater to the Asian demographic or not.

Never been to RW, and don't feel I'm missing anything.

If the Downtown properties are smart, they shouldn't mirror what the Strip is doing.

And Plaza and El Cortez should open a mid-tier Buffet.

And Golden Nugget should re-open their Buffet, make it a premium Buffet.

My opinion, of course.

THe most recent downtown buffet and only one open is Main Street's one.  But it looks like shit compared to what it was precovid.  At least Plaza has 10X odds and single zero roulette.  They also have a good bingo trounament going often. Not daily, but often enough. Seems like only Plaza is doing what they can to bring in gamblers.

We ate at Palms shortly after this vid was made.  THey're very strict now. 2 per person on a plate with no lobster on it. You're more than welcome to go back to your table and drop it off and get a new empty plate.  But I'll say that most will eat first as why get up again, they won't run out of lobster.  While I was making my rounds, I saw a few people complaining about this.  And all where "Karen" looking women.  The manager in the vid was also there too and dressed in similar clothing, which is unusual for a buffet manager at an average buffet.

Palms had also just increased the lobster buffet to $80 or so.  I won my Royal Flush that paid $5K and also paid for my 2 friends who live there and were joining us.  They had to wait for me to finish my tax form, so I figure, dinners on me. I thought it was still $45.  Then since Mrs. CMO has Diamond Status (top tier) cause they messed up on her card and gave her the Diamond card by mistake, we didn't have to wait in line for the buffet either.  This is the real only perk of Palms top tier status. I mean, you get free valet, but the lot is right next to the casino and very close, so it's not really a noticable benefit.  Other top tier rewards give you money for airfare and pick up/drop off at airport. Palms doesn't do this.  So it's no wonder why their high rollers aren't as abundant as other casinos.  Add in you're far off strip too.

My BIL would always do this in the past.  Then get mad at us for not helping him eat all of it.  We told him countless times to stop doing that because we like to take our own food.  Not to mention none of us ever told him to do that.  He meant well but after telling him a few times you would think he would get it.

Now he tells us he doesn't care to do buffets anymore.  I tell him "ok, bye. see you later."

I get why people try to "get their monies" worth at a buffet.  But I tried this once and didn't enjoy the buffet.  Not only was I thinking about money and ruining enjoying the food, but I overate and felt like shit after. So to feel stuffed on vacay when you still got a lot of things to do sucks.  So for years now, I eat what I want, even I "lose money".  I've been enjoying the buffets much more and don't feel like shit after.

For the Palms lobster buffet above, I only had 1 lobster tail as I'm not a huge fan of lobster, but wanted to try theirs.  I also took 1 snow crab claw at Baccahnal and 1 bite. I didn't like it. I wanted to try it without having to order it from a regular menu and spend lots.

We're going to Vegas soon and checking out Border Grill in Mandalay Bay.  It's a made to order all you can eat.  I want to try Chile Quiles (sp?) for the 1st time as I would never spend my own money to order it.  This AYCE has been around precovid, so I'm glad to see they're still doing it.

Bubble craps machines are appearing more and more at casinos.  Even the airport has it (not Terminal 3 yet, the Hawaiian Air terminal area). And crapless craps also.

Agree that stuffing yourself just so you can "get your money's worth" only ends up in most people feeling miserable after.  For me, getting my money's worth is the ability to try different types of foods sort of like a sampling menu that some restaurants offer.  Fill up by trying small samples of a variety of foods.

I wish some buffets would offer some cuisine from India.  I never tried Indian food but would like to try it.  If I try a sample and don't like it at least I didn't waste food.

I tried bubble craps before but it was sorta meh.  But I think I'd like to give it another try.  There are some interesting strategies on Yoo Boob that would piss off the dealers and players at a regular craps table but would be perfectly fine with bubble craps.

An interesting thing about bubble craps is the dice have "monopoly" type shapes.  Their edges are rounded out, not like the sharp edges of regular craps dice.  I often wondered why this is so and the paranoid conspiracy theorist in me suspects the AI of the machine can sense what the dice will land on as the pad vibrates.  While the sharp edges of regular casino dice guarantees a random roll, maybe the rounded edges of the bubble craps dice make the outcome more predictable.

Of course that's just my opinion.  Many times after I hit a big win I seven out immediately after.

My ex used to work at an AYCE seafood restaurant in MD. Basically, you order the most expensive thing you want to eat, then re-order that item or anything less than that price.  Steamed Alaskan King Crab Legs were the most expensive, so ordering that bought you the entire menu.  Food was brought to the table, so no buffet line.  There was one person she told me about they called "Anna," short for anorexia even though she was bulimic.  She'd eat a bunch, go to the restroom and then keep eating.  Sometimes she was there for hours.  The manager started having employees follow her to the restroom and discovered she was "purging" what she'd just eaten to make room for more.  After they witnessed this enough, the manager told her not to come back.  It's not "All you can throw up!!"

The standard for dice in most games is to have rounded edges.  They are more comfortable to handle and for most have a more pleasing appearance.

The purpose of the squared edges is so they can control the quality of each die.  Sharp edge dice provide more precise, unbiased rolls.  They wear down slower and  can be more easily measured to ensure randomness.

I think the reason they use rounded edges in Bubble Craps is to avoid "leaners."  A sharp point at the right angle can cause a die to lean against the wall, but a rounded edge is more likely to slide off the wall as long as the degree of curvature on the corner is sufficient.

As long as the face of each die is the same size, a rounded die should be just as random as a squared edged one.  However, some dice may have larger faces for higher numbers and smaller faces for lower numbers which can cause the larger numbers to face downward more often due to the face being slightly heavier.

One assumes the randomness has been tested by the gaming commission.  Either way, I'm sure someone has already bought and tested these machines to see if there's an advantage from betting on the numbers opposite the higher 4, 5 & 6 faces.(i.e. 1, 2 & 3).  I'd think the casino would be upset if fewer numbers 4-6 appear since that's going to limit the times a 7 can be rolled.  Die faces are usually made with opposing faces having 1 & 6, 2 & 5, and 3 & 4.  if the higher number faces weigh more, then you'd expect to see more 1, 2 and 3 rolled as the 4, 5, and 6 are heavier and would tend to land with those numbers facing down.

i can't imagine the casinos letting a biased set of dice favor the players.  in craps, once a point is established, the odds favor the house (assuming you are betting "with" the dice) as the number 7 has the highest odds of rolling.  Dice being biaed to roll less than a 4 would favor the player.

I think there's an Indian buffet in Mandalay Bay.  It's a restaurant that offers a buffet.  I'm not 100% sure if they're still doing it or if it was at MB.

I'm assuming The edges of the dice are rounded so the dice can rotate more.  Since the bumping isn't that strong, a straight edge would have less rotation upon landing.  Compare this to a human strength of throwing a dice.

The downside of bubble craps is a 1099 for any profit over $1200.

The upside is it's a quicker game and you can wih in 30 seconds and then leave.  You can play at your own pace and it pays you to the penny, so you don't have to put $6 on the 6/8; you can put $5 and it won't round down. I also see more DP players playing this.

March Vegas numbers for incoming flights are down 300K from March 2024. All airlines have less people compared to 2024, but 1 airline took the biggest hit.  Spirit Airlines is down 200K from last March.  So if we factored that in, the overall incoming flights aren't down a whole lot.  It probably isn't the Canada boycott.

Spirit AIr has been know to be cheap and typically for cheap people.  Vegas is no longer cheap like how it was precovid.  Yes, there are still free things to do, but even then, the food is still more expensive, unless you eat a $3.49 hamburger at McDonalds for every meal and for your entire trip. $9.99 buffets are gone and $4.99 steaks too.

So I don't think it's the international (Canada) travelers who aren't coming, it's the poorer US domestics who aren't coming.

This benefits the middle income as they can get more comps than before.  I know we're getting more comps.

Our Canadian neighbors really love to go to Vegas.  This even if their Canadian dollar costs more to convert to U.S.

I used to frequent this Vegas site called Vegas Message Board.  It's a site where you can talk about anything Vegas, from gambling to dining, to shows, etc.

Lots of Canadian members there.  They love to talk to other people who love to go to Vegas.

I don't visit the site anymore, but wonder if current events are affecting them.

FB groups are the new thing and there's enough saying that they won't be coming due to the tariffs Trump is doing to them.  They fail to understand that they were the ones who had higher tariffs on us and that their government is issuing a travel advisory, which are reserved for stuff like storms, viruses, terrorism, etc...not beefs between 2 leaders.  They're being used as pawns and don't see it.

The overall feeling toward the Canadians who feel this way from Americans in the group are "bye, don't let the door hit you".

There are various FB groups for Vegas that are around. Some, but not limited to:

Love Las Vegas
Vegas 702
Sin City Locals
MGM Rewards Las Vegas
Venetian Palazzo Fan Group
Explore Vegas
Everything Fremont
Las Vegas Things to Do
Las Vegas 101

I’m sitting in LAX on my way home from Vegas. Stayed at the park mgm. Years ago I enjoyed going to Vegas play the 1 cent and 5 cent slots and had a ball, cheap grindz. Those days are gone the place is filthy, people rude. You need an electrical engineering degree or be fucked up on booze to play the machines now and know what the fuck is going on. Yep.  Vegas has changed and for many people it's not for the better.  And rude people.  I forgot to emphasize this when I griped about the changes in Vegas.  There are rude people everywhere in our lives but it seems Vegas has a magnet that draws the rude people in droves.  It definitely is on the uptick.  In my opinion it's the under 30 crowd that is really getting out of hand.

I dunno.  Maybe it was that advertising slogan "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.....".

It kinda gave people license to get crazy and obnoxious.

I don't have the urge to visit anymore.  Vegas has crossed the line by its incessant rip-off nickel and diming of every little f*cking thing you do there.

I haven't been for over 10 years now.  Each time I get the itch, I see all the complaints people have now and decide to save my money for somewhere or something else.  i enjoyed the Fremont Street Experience when they first enclosed the road.  Before, it seemed sketchy walking between downtown casinos.  After, it was like a single property with multiple buildings.  Today the street is so crowded with people and attractions, some nights you can barely get to where you are going.  Then on special nights (holidays), they block off the area so you can't even walk there without paying admission.

Binion's Horseshoe was my favorite black jack spot.  A dozen or more single deck games and just a few 4-6 deck shoes.  There were also plenty of $5 and $10 min tables.  The last time I went, they had added machines, lighting and different table games, and all the BJ games used a multideck shoe except for one or two double deck games.  Comps are very difficult to get, and you have to ask.  Gone are the days when the pit boss would just walk over and offer a comped meal for your play.

I've been thinking about cruise ships lately.  There's a new MSC ship planned for basing out of Galveston, Texas.  And if you gamble at any land casinos and get offers from them, there's a company called "UR Comped" that can convert those into free cruises.
