So far, i've only had one or two packages of mine delivered to the wrong house, but it was easy enough for the recipient to drop it off for me.
Lately, on the RING neighbors app, i've seen an increasing number of photos taken by Amazon delivery drivers where they left a package at the wrong house. The buyer posts the photo they received in hopes someone who lives there can contact them, or maybe someone else can identify the house so the buyer can try contacting the recipient. I'm seeing at least one or two of these posts now per week.
That leads me up to my own story. This one is weird ...
I noticed something inside my gate this morning. Turned out to be 2 Amazon packages. Checking my RING camera, they were tossed over the fence by an Amazon driver at 7:45pm the previous evening. i found the packages about 10am today. He didn't bother to ring the doorbell which seems to be the MO lately for Amazon drivers -- just take a picture and run away. Once last week he rang the bell, but he was gone by the time I got to the gate -- maybe 20 seconds?
I first checked the labels. i had just walked a neighbor's Amazon package across the street, plus i wasn't expecting anything at the moment. The address on the labels was mine, but i didn't recognize the name. if i had, i would have walked these to the right house, too.
I contacted Amazon customer service via chat and explained the problem. After a minute or so, the rep said I can either keep or donate the items. One is a Unicorn stuffed animal (more like a pillow), and one is a glow in the dark unicorn baby blanket. i guess they aren't too expensive.
On top of telling me to keep the stuff I didn't order, the rep also refunded my last purchase to an Amazon gift card ($18.34). He said it was to reward my honesty.
So, as a reward for my honesty, I received a refund i didn't request for a package I actually received but which now shows i didn't receive it as the reason for the refund.
Just weird!
