Amazon Delivery Seems to be Getting Worse
« on: June 19, 2025, 01:35:23 AM »
So far, i've only had one or two packages of mine delivered to the wrong house, but it was easy enough for the recipient to drop it off for me.

Lately, on the RING neighbors app, i've seen an increasing number of photos taken by Amazon delivery drivers where they left a package at the wrong house.  The buyer posts the photo they received in hopes someone who lives there can contact them, or maybe someone else can identify the house so the buyer can try contacting the recipient.  I'm seeing at least one or two of these posts now per week.

That leads me up to my own story.  This one is weird ...

I noticed something inside my gate this morning.  Turned out to be 2 Amazon packages.  Checking my RING camera, they were tossed over the fence by an Amazon driver at 7:45pm the previous evening.  i found the packages about 10am today.  He didn't bother to ring the doorbell which seems to be the MO lately for Amazon drivers -- just take a picture and run away. Once last week he rang the bell, but he was gone by the time I got to the gate -- maybe 20 seconds?

I first checked the labels. i had just walked a neighbor's Amazon package across the street, plus i wasn't expecting anything at the moment.  The address on the labels was mine, but i didn't recognize the name.  if i had, i would have walked these to the right house, too.

I contacted Amazon customer service via chat and explained the problem.  After a minute or so, the rep said I can either keep or donate the items.  One is a Unicorn stuffed animal (more like a pillow), and one is a glow in the dark unicorn baby blanket.  i guess they aren't too expensive.

On top of telling me to keep the stuff I didn't order, the rep also refunded my last purchase to an Amazon gift card ($18.34).  He said it was to reward my honesty.

So, as a reward for my honesty, I received a refund i didn't request for a package I actually received but which now shows i didn't receive it as the reason for the refund.

Just weird!

Happened to us also.

Package delivered was actually for the house that was 3 houses down from us.

i wasn't sure what would motivate someone to try this scam, so i let  Google AI educate me...

The Amazon brushing scam involves sellers sending unsolicited packages to
random addresses to create a false impression of sales and generate fake
positive reviews. This tactic helps boost their product rankings and visibility on
the platform, misleading consumers about the product's popularity.

I am not trying to change the subject but it seems like Amazon is charging more than the 4.16% tax.
I just bought an item for $39.59 from Amazon. The after tax price is $41.45. It seems like they are
charging at least 4.7%. I realize that they have some leeway on what they charge us but 4.7% ?

Most companies doing business on Oahu add 4.712%. The business I work for does, 0% for tax exempt customers like military, 1/2% for resale customers and 4.712% for everyone else. I believe there's a 1/2%  rail tax added to the GET on Oahu. :stopjack:

For the C&C 0f Honolulu, the actual tax rate is 4.5%:
   4.0% for the state, and
   0.5% for the county.

Basically, you (the buyer) are paying 4.5% tax on the transaction, and the seller is paying 4.5% tax on top of the tax you paid

You owe tax on the purchase price, but the seller owes tax on the total transaction amount (price + tax).

The seller is allowed to pass on their "tax-on-tax" liability to you as well, so you wind up paying price + tax + tax on that tax.

If you look on most register receipts, they show 4.712% excise tax collected.  That accounts for everything the seller must pay the state.

In your example, the transaction total would be $39.59 * 4.712% = $41.45.

So, the state collects another 8 cents in excise tax because that's the law.

Simple!   :geekdanc:

Amazon drivers are under incredible pressure.

Forced?

This is not a new problem.  There are plenty of alternatives to a full-on restroom that are much better than "a bottle."

Oh, look!  On Amazon, go figure ....

Oh Dear Me, how could I forget about the rail tax?
I guess this is just more proof of: " I stay getting old "

Bezos is no longer the CEO but he still has control of the company and is still the
largest share holder of amazon.
He and his bride to be are living it up in Venice. The city leaders are perfectly
happy about the wedding, but some are not so happy about it.
