Political Discussion / there's a law for everything!
« on: January 04, 2022, 05:52:56 PM »

Kalihi Valley Representative John Mizuno said rockslides are a concern for residents who live in valleys.
“I’ve written legislation, which I’ve introduced several years in a row,” Mizuno said. “Unfortunately, they have not passed. And this is to have the topside owner have insurance. So if there are any boulders or what have you come down, they would be liable for that.”
Mizuno said he will reintroduce legislation this year, especially after this latest incident.

And people wonder why it is so expensive to live in Hawaii

General Discussion / PSA: The yellow line
« on: December 20, 2021, 09:58:43 AM »
If you are told several times to stay behind the yellow line maybe you should either listen or pack up your stuff and go home and leave the rest of us real shooters alone. The range is far but I still go. I make that journey so don't waste my time.
Its not hard the rules are posted when you sign in and are posted near all the benches. Don't argue that you have countless hours of training and that you were a SF, SEAL, Space Shuttle HALO jumper. Just go home and watch some NRA safety videos.

no one liked and obviously no one wanted to hang out with. For reasons unknown, this kid liked to argue with classmates. I don't know if it was to get attention or had problems at home. He was the kid in the corner with no friends because of his behavior. Tried hard to fit in with people but lacked social intelligence. I hope he is doing OK....

General Discussion / Machete attack
« on: November 29, 2021, 07:09:52 PM »

Victim was riding on a moped when attacked. He was already in a disadvantage against a person with an unsheathed machete. A chance if the victim was armed with a Taser while riding on a moped? Nope. All I could think of was this:

General Discussion / Register all hammers and crowbars?
« on: November 27, 2021, 08:15:33 AM »

In Lakewood, a group of suspects ages 15 to 20 stormed a Home Depot store around 8:30 p.m. and grabbed tools such as crowbars, mallets and sledgehammers before getting away in vehicles that were waiting outside, FOX 11 of Los Angeles reported.
One entire section of hammers was completely cleared out, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies told the station.
As many as 10 vehicles pulled up outside the store and the thieves donned ski masks before launching their spree, KCBS-TV of Los Angeles reported.
The theft prompted fears that the stolen tools would be used to commit more robberies at other stores in the area, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the station.

Sound familiar? As firearms owners we are often painted as the suppliers of firearms in the event of a theft.

On a related note, maybe there is a correlation here.

Mayor London Breed announced a major budget cut to the San Francisco police and sheriff's departments over the next two years.
In a press conference Friday, the mayor said $120 million in funding would be redirected from law enforcement agencies to instead be spent on addressing disparities in the Black community.

Off Topic / Grid Tie Solar - is it worth it?
« on: November 25, 2021, 04:51:57 PM »
HECO has a different rate tier for CGS systems and I don't think it is fair.
They don't pay you the fair rate for excess electricity you put into the grid. Instead they take the lower of the two : delivered electricity in KwH and received electricity in KhH (from your PV system) and then multiply it by .1507. That sum is then credited to your bill. I know there are some real engineers out there that can point out some way to get the max return on investment for this. I ran some scenarios where a user bought a system that produces higher than their avg consumption and another where a user get a system that delivers less. Both scenarios in my analysis - the homeowner doesn't win either on upfront, capital costs or not being paid fair rate. HECO current residential rate is at 28 cents per KwH and the credited rate for CGS is 15 cents
