General Discussion / Re: Glock 19 holster fits 43X
« on: March 13, 2025, 04:07:02 PM »
I have a g48 bca holster. And my g19 does not fit🤣 too skinny.

48 and 43x is obviously skinnier. And the bca can adjust width to a certain degree. The frames are close enough that'll work. Just like how some p226 holsters will work with p320 and a Beretta 92. And some g17 holsters work with mp full size/ p10f . Trial and error.

Just wanted to add. If you ever use your CCW. Good luck getting it back if you ever have to use it even if it's justified. Lol

I'd go cheapest yet most reliable. Biggest yet still concealable as others have mentioned to your body style after you've decided appendix or 3/4 o'clock draw. Or fanny pack/ cross body draw.

3m tri flange. Those neon green plastic and rubbery ones. Washable. Cheap . It hangs from my neck when not in use via corded out the box.

I'm gonna try axil gs 2.0 extreme tho. It's on sale. My friend and I are halving it. Buy one get one free. So it's a few bucks cheaper than when it's on sale at 129 for just 1. I don't like ear muffs. Not only prevents my cheek weld for rifles but it gives me a headache after bout 20 minutes. Never tried sordins but I've had walkers, lights, couple 3m (forgot the models) ranging from Bluetooth to non electronic versions.

I use grizzly grease. It's waxy. Every 6 months or so I just add some grease to everything. There was a point I never went range for maybe 3-4 years. Worked well for me

CorrosionX is also good. It's more like a tacky liquid than grease

Another one…

Damn those are nice. Why not get the 62.99? Little bit cheaper. And it's additional 6% off.

As for pics. I don't have any. Not much a photogenic person. Lol

Nifty idea. I would def make the two vertical woods closer. I wouldn't want to rest on the barrel for too long. Wood absorbs oil so your bluing may be uncoated after a long period. Wouldn't worry bout nitride or cerakoted tho.

Amazon sells these hangers that you just drill into your support beam. Think I got 6 for 15 bucks or so. I rarely hang my guns anymore. I made a work station in one of my rooms . The repurposed desk is the cleaning area and another metal table on the other side has a regular vice on 1 end and a drill press vice on the other. Filled 3 crappy mags with jb weld and scrap wood. That became lower receiver blocks. So I can work on 2 ar15s at any given time on the metal table. And one my cleaning station I have one of those 12 dollar vices from amazon and mtm cleaning thingy. I'm weird.

My friend is even funnier. He bolted a metal square pipe to his support beam. Then he got a door hinge that hinges hhorizontally. Drilled holes in the  swinging arm and put Paracord and "S" hooks then he hangs his rifles upside down from the buttstock. When he's done he swings that arm flush against the wall. And he put a magnet there. Seen his rifles hanging against the wall. No pressure on the barrels.

I'm sure you can do a simple 2x2 screwed horizontally on your wall. Make half inch holes every 2 -3 inches apart. Tie Paracord . Use "S" hooks and hang your rifles upside down.

Possibilities are endless.

Firearms and Accessories / Re: DIY hunting rifle finish
« on: November 15, 2024, 03:29:17 PM »
I’ve got an old Howa and after a damp hunt last weekend I decided I need to improve the finish on it. The blueing is in fine shape I guess but as it’s gotten older it just seems to rust more readily, especially between the barrel/action and the stock.

Any tips? Ideally something I can paint on and air dry, or are those products not even worth it?

I own an air compressor but no sand blasting equipment.

Disassemble the stock from barrel/receiver. Shoot it with green brakleen . Wipe with old t shirt and rattle can. After the first 1 or 2 coats of your base paint hit it with matte clear coat once. Then do whatever pattern ya want then after that's done. Hit it 2 more time with clear coat. It's durable. I did that to a upper once. It had a nitride barrel. My friend used turpentine, brakleen , rubbing alcohol with scotch Brite green pad. And could not get it off 😁. He sent it to get sandblasted and cerakoted. That was the only way other than Dremel. Let the coats dry 12 hours in-between. That's excessive but ensures good quality of it's in direct sunlight half hour should be fine. I was in a garage so 12 hours it was.. Also mist the paint on from bout a foot away or so. Don't be all up directly on it. Just go easy on the paint on the lugs or pillars. Dunno what a howa uses. Stuff the receiver with paper towels and masking tape on the outside.

I use MI URR. The spine that goes down the charging handle channel ensures nothing twists. That said I've done plenty of uppers using some knock off reaction rod that's similar to geissele reaction rod by botach. I forgot the name. Kleyzon??

But now I only use the URR.

Watch that video. Very informative IMHO.

Both action bays are open as I shot in the right-side action bay. And during that day .. The left side action bay was being used by a diff group of people.

Buy a used 357 mag and scope/ red dot it. I think Taurus makes some models sub 500. Havent checked prices of late tho. I can use a lcr357 mag at 100 meters with a u notch and fiber optic front sight. Maybe 3-4 out of 5 shots. So with a red dot or scope you should be fine.

Cva makes some cheap single shots. In all calibers.

Another great option. Cva or similar, single shot 12 or 20 gauge shotty. You can buy inserts that you can change calibers. From 22lr up to the caliber you originally bought. Never tried it myself tho so dunno bout great accuracy but those 6 inch inserts on youtube got some good accuracy testing. I think the brand was "X something"

I like the reservation system too. Altho i live in town. I hate going there and waiting an hour or so early to either wait for a spot or just there early enough to claim a spot

July 10th has past. Any one can confirm khsc is open on weekdays?

I tried the khsc website and nada. I also tried doing a reservation but it only showed the weekend dates in the drop down menu.

"My neighbor who moved away brought a hen home"
Feral or purchased ?
Breed ?

"Delete" the rooster and no more chicks

Stop feeding the feral cats !  :grrr:

Hahaha never!!!

Hehe I actually hated cats up until I met my last exgf. I got a rotty when I was 1 years old for my bday and was strictly a dog lover. Had 4 more doggie til I moved out of my parents house.
But cats are awesome too. I live in pauoa. And I got zero roaches and centipedes. I do have an agreement with the state to let me feed the feral kitties. I spay and neuter when I have time. I pay out of my own pocket when the state doesnt fund the free one to humane society. I rescue / foster/ find new homes for the ones that are friendly. It would help if people stop dumping cats and dogs everywhere.

Met a couple cute girls who feed feral cats too 😂😂😂

Almost got into a couple fights too. Damn haoles think imma back down. Hopped an 8 foot fence then the guy ran away😂 never bothered me since. And no, I never expressed my 2a rights. Just old school hands like the good ol days.

Sorry Idk the breed of chicken. Its white and black tho. I have no idea if they purchased or what. Just saw it in their yard and saw them throw food to feed her. Then when they left it came to my yard/garage and me other neighbor.

You know what is interesting that there are chickens all over the place now.  My wife works in Halawa Valley and years ago her boss started raising chickens.

Now Iwaena St. has chickens all over the place.  I like to joke to my wife that the chickens that are all over Oahu today are from her damn boss, LOL!

I told myself no way will chickens ever exist in Mililani.  Guess what........

I wonder if the Humane Society can neuter Rooster's throats like how they neuter dogs and cats.  That would be wonderful and then I wouldn't mind chickens so much.

I think they are cute and cool but damn those fricken roosters.

Yea I called humane society and they dont. Lol. Online says to put a rubber band to prevent them from enlarging their throat. I aint getting near it. His spikes are huge lol.

They sound like the wild ones. Don't worry in a few days you start finding little fuzzballs around the yard as most of them die off. Rarely do more than 2 or 3 make it to sexual maturity.

You spund well versed in chickens. Want them all? 😂 free. I really want someone who will yake care of them and not eat them haha.
I like animals.

I already calles humane society. No bueno.

Yea my dumbass neighbor got the hen first. But since they moved they left the chicken and since I feed cats in my garage she been coming here to eat. Then a rooster showed up out of nowhere. Like a big ass one. They had 2 kids bout a couple months ago. 1 hen and 1 rooster. Fucking irraz. I didnt see the original hen for a week or so so I thought maybe it got killed. Then just yesterday I saw 8 to 10 little ones running behind the original hen. My other neighbors are pretty cool with the cats now but I doubt he gonna like more roosters crowing at midnight. Those fakas. Oh and the cats I feed were from my neighbor a few houses down who saves them. None were from me bringing them home lol.

Does anyone here want chickens, roosters, baby chickens?

I really dont want to kill them. I'm hoping someone maybe has a farm and want them. But it would be nice of they are going to a good home .. I think i just saw 8-10 baby chickens. They are adorable. Lol.

My neighbor who moved away brought a hen home. And I jave free roaming cats. So I just fed the hen. 1 day a friggin rooster showed up out of nowhere.
They are multiplying alot. And I'm getting irritated lol.

When in the market for something specific, new or used, if none of the local shops have it, where do you look next?

Anybody use anything other than GunBroker?

Ive ordered fron:

Midway
Aimsurplus
Brownells

Friends ordered from:

PSA
Buds
Omaha outdoors
BNR (lgs/ special ordered)
Primesports (lgs/ special ordered)
Dct (lgs/special order)

Ive also bought from multiple diff local gun shops over nearly 2 decades.

Fun fact. Most gas blocks if not all, have enlarged gas port holes on the gas block to help with mislaignment. My yhm low pro gas blocks were like 2.5 times bigger than my gas port hole on my barrel. I did the old school pencil and micrometer technique first then I discovered the toothpick trick on prob my 3rd or 4th upper. Cant remember as this was bavk around 2010-2012 ish.

Headspacing and torquing of the barrel nut is probably the most crucial part of building ar15s and as always buy quality/ known parts.

Hehe. But back to topic for OP.

I too have both an upper with a fsb and another upper with full length qual rail and LP gas block. Essentially its a bcm upper with the qrf rail. Its all preference. I do like quad rails over mlok. Ive put together 9 or so uppers and only kept my quad rail uppers. Its my preference. I like the old school look. Well not as old as plastic m4 handguards. 😂

Yes, the handguard cap!
It is basically the 3 o clock and 9 o clock portion that is exposed. Hot enough to be very uncomfortable but I didn't burn myself.

Gloves are a good idea but I was hoping for some sort of fabric. I know there are heat proof (resistant) fabrics but have to find an adhesive that can withstand the heat to attach the fabric. Maybe one of those exhaust epoxies could do it but kind of messy.

THanks for giving me the part name, I will do more searching and see if there are any products mentioned for it.

No problem.

Wanna just remove it? Cheapest option. Justbneed some time and elbow grease. Remove handguard and fsb taper pins. Then simply cut it off without removing muzzle device. That would be the cleanest way.

If ya wanna epoxy you'll prob have to sand the cap down to expose the bare metal. Pretty sure they are anodized so it wont adhere as good. Mgm makes a tape. But I think its omly good to 300 degrees. Heatwise. Its the glue they use for adhesives that'll give you problems as heat will soften the glue on tape style products. Which will make it come loose
