General Discussion / Re: A good HD semi shotgun

..., buy the best that you can afford since it is being used for self defense.

Good point.  Though I do have my mind 90% in favor of a semi, I do hear what everyone has said in favor of them for an HD scenario.

You can TOTALLY trust the govt. to take care of your property.  Just look at the fine example of record keeping they did with the Fast and Furious program.   (sarcasm)

General Discussion / A good HD semi shotgun
« on: January 19, 2013, 04:19:28 PM »
I'm in the market for a good reliable HD semi auto shotgun.  While I most familiar with the remington line (1100 and 1187) to be specific, I'm open to your guy's opions and experiences.  There are only a few features I know for sure it would need to have:

1) Reliability & Dependability - since it's an HD gun, it needs to be near 100%
2)  Semi-Auto - Going to train the wifey to use as well, so it needs to be softer recoiling than a pump
3) Easy to operate - shouldn't be overly complicated to switch from 00 to slug.
4) I've settled on 12ga since ammo is widely available for it - doesn't matter if it's 2 3/4 or 3"
5) I've got a budget of around 1k

It's going to be stricly an HD gun, so I wouldn't use it for hunting or anything else.  I'm open to any maker and model.

I just got off the phone with Sen. Ihara's office, the secretary who answered the phone explained that this was not written by the Senator but submitted by request from one of his constituents.  I explained my concerns with some of the wording (instant felon and lack of grandfathering) of certain sections as well as the bill it's self, she seemed pretty receptive and is expecting a ton of reaction from it.  She went on to explain that the Senator's policy is that when a bill is requested and written by a constituent that he submits them no matter his position on the issue, that's what the "by request" stamped next to the signature means. She also said that she believes it won't get much attention and feels it won't go to far because "not a lot of thought went into the writing of it".

This does not mean we should stop the relentless emails calls and letters, it seems that we already have a foot in the door but we can't stop there. We need to kick that door down and be as vocal as we can. I hope this helps to calm your nerves a bit but please don't stop making your voices heard.

While I think it's admirable what the senator is doing to represent his district, sometimes there needs to be a filter.  I know if I didn't have a filter between my brain and my mouth I would have been fired from my job a  long time ago.  Guess I'll be writing this weekend *sigh*, anyone got stamps?  Will trade Pmag for stamps - J/K.

I believe this topic should not be discussed on a public forum, regardless of the context.

...like why would anyone want a pocket pistol if you can't legally carry it?

1) It's because it makes IPSC that much more challenging...

2) It matches my LV murse  ;D

Firearms and Accessories / Re: brass catcher designs

I'm all for brass catchers on the rifle side.  Nothing worse than some dipstick spraying your wife with his brass.  Worse was he saw the first couple hit her and went kept on shooting until I stood up between the benches and asked him to stop.  I think I'll come up with a brass catcher that'll deflect spent brass back at these kinds of shooters...call it my F-U Catcher mk1.

Cool, I'll let  them know.  It was good working the range with yah on Sat.  I had a few guys ask about gas blow back guns, so  that might be something else to look at too.
