Does anyone open carry when you go to Vegas?

I did last time I went, but carried my gun in a Pelican case when I took it in & out of Main Street Station where I was staying.

I didn't have my NV CCW permit until a month or so later.  Next trip, I'll be stealth.   8)

I have only concealed carry since I got my permit in 2015 and that was my first trip to Vegas since 1978.  The instructor at Front Sight said cops will probably give you some heat if you open carried on the Strip, North Las Vegas and Henderson.

I strongly recomnend taking a CCW class and getting a permit on your trip there.

Where Can't You Openly Carry a Handgun in Las Vegas?

Quote
Nevada is one of 31 open-carry states, which allow private citizens to carry visible weapons without any license or
permit (long guns are a different story). Fifteen states require some form of license or permit in order to openly carry
a handgun. Five states, plus the District of Columbia, prohibit the practice entirely.

In Nevada, anyone 18 and older who can legally possess a firearm may openly carry virtually anywhere in the state
that's not specified, as below.

The state of Nevada prohibits carrying (either openly or concealed) weapons on the premises of a public school, college,
and university or a child-care facility, including in the parking lots, unless the carrier has the written permission of the
college president, school principal, or head of a child-care facility. Open carry is also disallowed in state legislative
buildings or wherever the legislature is conducting business.

Federal facilities where open carry is not permitted include courthouses and offices (like a Social Security office), on
military bases (military personnel should know Department of Defense policy and individual post orders), USPS property
including parking lots, and VA hospitals/facilities/cemeteries.

In Nevada, Hoover Dam prohibits all firearms.

Red Rock National Conservation Area disallows loaded firearms (no magazine/clip inserted, no rounds in the chamber).

As for private property, guns-prohibited signs on private property do not have the force of law. You can legally carry even
in establishments that advertise you can't.

However, if the owner or management asks you to leave or disarm, you must comply. If you fail to do so, you can be arrested
for trespassing.

Private-property owners can and do prohibit open carry and most gun owners respect the right to private property (in the same
way that they respect the right to bear arms). The ones who have a problem with being unarmed in places that don't allow
open carry simply don't frequent them.

Private businesses in Las Vegas where visible guns aren't welcome include, but aren't limited to, Sprouts, Buffalo Wild Wings,
Ethel M Chocolates, Red Robin, Raising Canes, most malls, and most casinos.

If you're thinking of getting a NV CCW permit, there are a few "catches".

(1)  You have to appear in person at the police/sheriff station where you apply at least once.

If you drop off the application in person, you can have the permit mailed to your Hawaii residence.  But, if you mail the application, you'll have to go to that NV police/sheriff station to pick up the permit.

(2)  New permit applicants must take an 8 hour class plus pass a written and live-fire test. You have to apply for your permit in the county where you took the test. For example, you can't take the test at Front Site in Nye County and apply for the permit in Clark County (Vegas).

(3)  If you want to renew before the 5 year expiration date, you need to take a 4 hour class to include a live-fire test.  There's no written test for renewals.

That means you have to plan to return to whichever county issued your permit.  They recommend starting the renewal about 120 days from expiration of the existing permit.  If you forget or can't get to NV before the permit expires, there's a 364 day grace period to renew, but you'll have to pay more than the normal renewal fee but less than a new permit costs.  If you wait to renew after the 1 year grace period, you have to go through the new permit process again.

Nevadacarry.org is a very helpful website.

Probably, the only people who open carry with a handgun don't have a CCW permit.  Check the reciprocity map to see what other states they honor.  But the advantage to having a Nevada CCW is that you can come within 1000 feet of a school zone.  You need that states CCW to do this.

Casino's will ask you to check gun or leave if open carry due to being a gun free zone.  But it's not illegal to carry in a gun free zone unless its a school/higher education or government building etc...Casino's, restaurants ok.

Seen a guy open carrying an AR15 on his motorcycle.

You can get the AZ CCW permit also. No muss no fuss if you have the training requirements met.

https://www.azdps.gov/services/public/cwp

Nevada honors the AZ permit and you can get it without even leaving Hawaii.

Nevada does have a blade length law, unlike how Hawaii doesn't have one.  So be cautious about that also.

They do not have a OC spray law, but all airlines bans OC sprays in luggage.  So you would have to buy one up there.

NV also honors the Utah permit and you can get that easily in Hawaii.  Several certified Utah CCW instructors in Hawaii.  Of the 3, AZ, UT, and NV, the NV permit is by far the most troublesome to get.

Yeah, NV makes you take a class.  So if it's your 1st NV permit, you will be able to carry on your next trip.  Mine took 3 months to come in.  But to submit the app at the Metro PD only took 15 mins.  The station had about 50 people before me.  But they had 12 windows to submit paperwork, 5 fingerprint stations, and 5 camera stations.  I thought it was like HPD here and I was going to be there all day.  I was blown away by their efficiency.

WA,no class required, just go in to the nearest station that you're sleeping next to and apply.

According to the USA Carry Reciprocity map, these are the states' permits honored in NV:

Alaska,
Arizona,
Arkansas,
Florida,
Idaho,
Illinois,
Kansas,
Kentucky,
Louisiana,
Massachusetts,
Michigan,
Minnesota,
Mississippi,
Montana,
Nebraska,
New Mexico,
North Carolina,
North Dakota,
Ohio,
Oklahoma,
Oregon,
South Carolina,
South Dakota,
Tennessee,
Texas,
Utah,
Virginia,
West
Virginia,
Wisconsin,
Wyoming

If you have FL, it's good in NV.

FL permits expire in 7 years. They cost a little more, but you keep them longer.

Since FL doesn't honor non-resident permits from other states, it's a good state to have a non-resident CCW permit from if you think you might travel there.

Here now. Haven’t noticed anyone carrying.

And it’s hot as hell! Was 110 the other day!

If you visit the gas stations/mini-marts on the drive from Front Sight to Pahrump and Vegas after 5:30-6:00 pm, you'll at least see some FS students and instructors open carrying. Might as well, since they're already strapped when class ends.

I'd imagine since Casinos aren't gun friendly places, Downtown LV and The Strip won't see very many carrying.

I saw an elderly man open carrying in the IKEA store when I was there.  No one even blinked an eye.  Seemed like most people didn't even notice.

That's been my observation. If you don't act differently, those around you don't pay you any attention when open carrying.

I guess if you have a non-resident CCW from Utah, Nevada will recognize that but Florida will not?

This doesn't make any sense at all. According to people like Karl Rhoads it would be the Wild Wild West in Lav Vegas but Hawaii people still go there?! WTF? Why aren't we going to a state that doesn't allow open carry to be safe when we enjoy gambling?

Yep.  Some states treat non-resident vs state resident permits the same, but some won't honor non-resident permits at all.  FL is one that doesn't like other states' non-resident permits, even though their non-resident permits are fine in most states with reciprocal agreements.

So what state carry permit is the easiest to get from out of state? I remember years ago Florida was easy to obtain. Pretty much just fingerprints, photo, background check and it was mail in application.

Hawaii people are obviously the dangerous ones. It's why no one can carry here except Cops. Las Vegas, too, is a safer place because Hawaii visitors are disarmed.

Logical.

"Easy" is relative.  For example: If you've taken a safety class in the last 3-5 years, you already have that requirement met for many states.  If you haven't, then that can make one state harder to get for you than someone else.

Virginia is probably the easiest to get for non-residents.  AZ is easy, too.

The real question is: of the easiest permits to get, which are honored in the state/s you intend to visit?  Sometimes the best permit to get might take more effort.  All depends on your needs.

It was ridiculously hot in Vegas last week. Highs in 110s and HUMID! We were super surprised about the humidity, even locals. Usually it’s always pretty dry there. Was definitely shorts and t-shorts weather!

Went around all over and didn’t see anyone open carrying. Saw some who I thought might be carrying concealed.

Went to a concert at an indoor venue. That was the only place that we went where we got wanded prior to entering. The venue had an mezzanine viewing area that was closed off for this event. The opening band went up there for the main event. I found myself looking up there every so often.

They don't got a places to keep law.  So can leave your gun in the glove box locked.

yeah, you don't have to pay anyone to take a class to get an AZ permit
I hear that one of the local shops might have something set up soon to help people get OOS CCW permits...
