Downtown San Francisco
« on: April 16, 2024, 10:44:23 PM »
My review of downtown San Francisco.  I traveled to San Francisco for a couple days to support the Wolford v Lopez hearing in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals which is located in the middle of downtown.  Subway from the Airport to Downtown SF during the day was okay and it was surprisingly clean. There were a couple of homeless people sleeping in the car

First thing out of the station, I see two homeless guys scrapping.  There were 2 security guys in reflective jackets trying to stop them, kind of.  All they did was just try and get between them, but the two guys kept scrapping.  SF has a lot of security and law enforcement in the tourist and financial districts.  They just stand around and don't do much. I guess they only get involved when the homeless mess with tourists and businessmen or do something major.  Most of the retail stores, malls, and hotels have a security guy at the door.  Go a couple blocks off the main strip, and there are no police or officers to be seen and it gets more sketchy.

It's relatively okay during the day, equivalent to Downtown Honolulu at midnight.  There's homeless screaming, sleeping on the ground, begging, and wandering around dazed.    There is  quite a bit of poo on the ground in the early morning where I have to watch my step.  A poo patrol goes around to clean it up. Most of the homeless are well dressed.  Guess that's all the clothes they steal from the stores.   People also openly use and sell drugs on the street.  Anything from pakalolo to black tar heroin.

Nighttime reminds me of the old NES Castlevania game where regiular people come out during the day, but are replaced by vampires and monsters at night. They have a "swap meet" to sell things like tidepods, handbags, and clothes.  The homeless setup their camps for the night alongside my hotel.  These pics are from early in the night and it gets worse around midnight.

Sales tax in downtown SF is 8.63%.  It goes up to 10% in neighboring districts.  Restaurants charge a 4% to 10% added fee to cover their worker's healthcare costs, and tack on other service fees.   Larger businesses pay a 0.175% to 0.69% homeless tax on gross revenue.  Minimum wage is $18hr.  This combined with the added security guard cost makes everything expensive.

That money goes to good use.  The disabled homeless all have electric scooters and wheelchairs.  I dunno where they charge them.

Sad pictures.
Reminds me of Chinatown, Kalihi, Kaimuki, Moiliili and Waipahu too.
Basically, the homeless will camp out anywhere there are convenient places to buy supplies.

My big brother lived in SFO.
He moved away to NV.

Crime has been a part of life in SF for decades.  It's just become more rampant and blatant since there's little enforcement today.

Did you know? ... There was a mass shooting in SF at 101 California St in 1993.  Using 3 handguns, the shooter killed 8 and wounded 6 before committing suicide.  This event was used to help justify the 1994 National Assault Weapons Ban, though the connection between the two escapes me.

Doo doo in the streets.  Amazing!  Those feces maintenance specialists are set for life.  Absolutely no lay-offs in their future.

The Streets of San Francisco takes on a new meaning!

What was once a crime drama is now that with homeless and drugs and doo doo to boot also!

I'd pay a dollar to see that.

Actually, my stoopid dawg likes to drop his load in the middle of the intersection ALL the time now. I dunno why.

Did anyone ask the former Nuclear Waste director guy? The one who was stealing luggage from the airports?

Downtown/Chinatown here isn't any diff. I work there now and see human shit on the sidewalk at least once a week since I began working there.  Excluding maybe 2 weeks.  I find it odd that someone would shit in the middle of the sidewalk and not in a corner or next to a tree.  Kakaako is like once every few weeks, theres shit on the sidewalk.

They pressure wash Fort Street Mall at least once a week due to this as well.

Oh it's very different.  Poo on the sidewalk is a daily thing and it's common in the morning.  There's a few surrounding my hotel.

Not sure why I'm posting this and it might not be relevent but it kinda brings light as to how f*cked up things are nowadays.

But anyway, good ole Nancy realized a 1.5 million dollar profit within 90 days on one of her "inside" trading endeavors.

Maybe SF is no longer her jurisdiction but still.

Was at HPD Beretania yesterday around 9am, passed a guy dressed "wrapped in a blanket"  right outside the registration office creating a puddle on his feet.
Yeah, it's here already.
