Saw this in the iHeart news email today.
A flight attendant offered a piece of advice to travelers who use hotel room safes to store their valuables:
Put one of your shoes in the safe along with your valuables.
Lots of people have checked out in a hurry only to realize too late they left their wallet, passport, cash or other valuables in the safe.
Placing a shoe in the safe will remind you of the things you need to remove before departure.
Of course, the shoe needs to be one you intend to wear upon departure, or else you might not notice only one of a pair got packed. It also only works at night when you aren't wearing your shoes, obviously.
This works with things other than shoes, too, as long as it's something you would not leave the room without making sure you have it. Wearing only one shoe is pretty difficult to miss!
I almost always travel with just the shoes i wear to the airport so i can travel lighter. That makes this "hack" a viable one for me. I don't normally use a hotel safe because of the horror stories of how easy they are to break into, but I might consider using one while I'm in the room as long as it's free.
Anyway, thought this was worth passing along.
