Silly rednecks. Kailua-Kona is not the country
Yeah, a lot of Kailua-Kona subdivisions are built like Oahu.In my area of Puna, I hear multiple gunshots several times a month.

No one calls the cops because no one gives a shit.  Cops only come here in twos or threes, never by themselves.

Keep your pennys.  Very useful if you need a washer and don’t have the right size.  You can hammer it a bit and then drill a hole the size you need.

The diameter wouldn’t work for all cases, but for most normal sizes, it works fine.

Big brawl in Hilo last night involving machetes and baseball bats. Covered several blocks with guys and even some gals
  chasing each other.

An adult becomes a child again when they become senile and need to wear diapers
and can no longer care for themselves.  I hope I die before I reach that point.

On the positive side I do know several in their late 80s whose minds are really sharp and still drive.

My daughter works as a bar server at the Hilton Waikoloa and she has been working 6 days a week lately, so they must be busy.

She is looking forward to the Super Bowl, not because she likes football, but because it is the biggest tip day.  $800-1000 in tips is the norm on Super Sunday.

Don’t ever use Benny’s Towing on the Big Island. They were the reason I stopped my AAA membership.  They only allow one passenger with the tow, even though the driver was using a crew cab and had a seat available in the back.  After my truck got towed home, I had to drive 30 miles one way to pick up my friend who had to wait on the side of the road.  I told him what is I needed a tow on the Saddle Road and my invalid wife was with me.  Would she have to wait on the side of the road for two hours till I can get my other vehicle?  They are the only tow company I ever used that will only allow one passenger.  Triple A in general sucks for towing.  Couple times I called them on Oahu and the projected wait time was 90 minutes in Kailua!  I ended calling another company that was there in 20 minutes.

Under the law enacted in 2024, heavy commercial vehicles may only use the left lane when:

They match the speed of existing traffic
They are overtaking and passing

In other words, in any normal driving circumstance.
On Oahu the left lane is the slow lane.

Theres a few east asian countries you can live well off of USA retirement.  Vietnam, PI, Thailand, etc...For Thailand, their culture thinks it's bad juju if someone died in the home.  So the sale of it is harder.  Which causes a lower price.

I like Vietnamese and Thai food much better than Filipino food, but would move to PI because most people in the city area speak English and they have lots of good Vietnamese and Thai restaurants.

I also would not sell my house here.  My daughter lives there and could easily make the house payment with a quarter of her take home pay.  I would rent a nice condo with AC.  One of those buildings I see with stores, restaurants on the first floor.  I would sort of live out of a suitcase in case I gotta flee the country in case their political system got bad and I had to return to the US.

If not for my wife's poor health, I would have moved to the Philipines already.  A friend of mine who grew up in Vietnam and regularly goes back to visit said you could live really well in any SE Asian country on $2800 USD a month.  I like the Philipines because a lot of people speak English.  No tax on tips not going to help my dsughter much.  She makes about $150k as a server at the Hilton.

My friend who lives in the red tsunami zone in Kailua did not evacuate. His wife was in a panic so he loaded the car with important papers and valuables and sent her to a friend's house up the hill.

He stayed home and watched the news.  He figured if he saw a big wave hit Kauai which is about 103 miles from Oahu, he could jump on his bicycle and in 7 minutes be in the safe zone.

Makes perfect sense when you think about it.  It will take a wave traveling 500 mph a little over 10 minutes to get from Kauai to Oahu.

Well after all the excitement, nothing happened again.  After a few more times people will get complacent.

Hmmm, if 75.8 years is average for American male, lucky I stay live Hawaii which is 77.6 years.

Today I make 75 years 3 months.  I look on da bright side, I might not have to go through the hassle of renewing my driver license.

I might expire before it does, although I was hoping to outlive my brother who will be 86 in September.

I stopped watching The Late Show a few episodes after Letterman left.  Wasn’t the same.  Leno was a good replacement for Carson, but after that the guys that followed couldn’t match them.

QS,
You set a good example for your kids.

His parents also owned a townhome at Hampton Court but I think he said it was only 2 bedrooms and sort of small.

I guess he wanted to buy his “forever” home on the first crack instead of “upgrading” like a lot of us.

He also owns a studio in one of the newer condos right across the street from Ala Moana SC….im guessing it costed like 300-400k.  I think he now brown bags lunch everyday vs eating out like he used too

I don’t want a big house after living in a 3671 sq ft house.  More area to  keep clean.

My dream home would be something like 1000 sq ft with a big kitchen and 2bed/2bath

attached to a 4000-6000 sq ft warehouse with 16 ft high ceiling.

I am going to start making my own long term survival food with stuff I like to eat.  I finally broke down and ordered a Harvest Right med size freeze dryer from Home Depot.  With 2 years 0% interest, I couldn't pass it up.  It was something I wanted for a long time.  It should be here by the end of the month.
