Dupont#5 part2-45 BALL
=========
After ascertaining that the 80 year-old powder was still viable, I thought how cool it would be to try and recreate some military-style ball ammo with it since this powder was used to make WW2 era military ball ammo.
I had to obtain some projectiles first.
I placed an order for some 230 gr FMJ from RMR Bullets.
Just for fun, I also ordered some RMR "Idaho Silver" bullets to take care of those nasty werewolves.
For this part of the project, I decided to start really low and work up gradually.
In part-1, I did make some 230 gr JHP loads with 4.7 grains and it was pretty slow.
So I extrapolated that data and came up with 5.7 grains to make mil ball speed.
The test gun was the Colt Gvt with 5.5" Bar-Sto bbl.
Test#1 used 5.2 gr. 230 gr. RMR FMJ LOA=1.260 Taper to 0.468-WW brass
V=697 SD=24
Test#2 used 5.7 gr.
V=802 SD=35
The target velocity was about 820 fps from that test gun, so it was close.
FYI- 820 fps was the speed I got with real 70's era mil ball from that bbl.
There were no signs of high pressure so I can bump up to 820 easily.
The only worrisome thing I saw was the fairly high SD. I noticed this from the initial tests.
I suppose that if I were 80 yrs old, I would be a little erratic too. LOL
In the next part of this test, I'll bump up to 5.8 gr and shoot for accuracy impressions.
