This exclusion amendment seems to follow what most insurance companies have always done, only it expands the definition of firearm to include non-firearm toys.  It also excludes unintentional discharges.

Most insurance companies consider discharge of a firearm an intentional act, such as a home defense situation.  So anyone injured or any property damages that result were not covered.  if they covered intentional acts, then someone could shoot their brother in the arm to scam the insurance company out of a big settlement.

Somebody at the underwriters' figured out how firearms could be a risk to them and spec'ed out those scenarios in the exclusions.

This letter further supports the need for actual firearm insurance that will cover lawful use or accidental discharges of firearms for both property and liability/medical.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I have state farm and never noticed anything like that. I have insurance for my firearms themselves (loss/theft) but nothing specifically about liability. What insurance company was this?

What did the disclaimer say about alcoholic beverages?
