The article itself just screams: "Make it make sense".

These are the kinds of articles that needs a follow-up so people can understand the whys and what's after more information becomes available.

What could be an alternative?  "Hi, I see you've got a weapon.  Are you gonna hurt me?  Kill me?  My wife and family also?  Come, let's sit down and have coffee and talk about it....."

I take what the article says as he's being investigated becuase the 2 knew each other, so foul play. But need more info to confirm.

The police department determined there was probable cause to charge Florez with murder.

Detectives obtained a murder warrant for Florez. He was arrested on Saturday and booked
into the Howard County Detention Center.

It’s unclear whether Florez and Lozano knew each other.

The investigation remains ongoing. Further details were not released.

Until we know what the investigators found, it's too early to form an opinion either way.

"Probable cause" can be almost anything.  Did the cops catch Florez in a lie?  Was this s drug deal that went south?  Did Lozano actually force his way into the home, or was he invited?

There are always 2 sides to every story, but one side isn't talking -- for obvious reason.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

Gotta be more to the story.  I could think of a few scenarios where it could be murder...

Homeowner started or escalated the situation...like stole something from them or attacked them outside.
Intruder gave up and they shot him, like in the back of the head.

I can think of a million scenarios where the homeowner was the aggressor, or was high, or wanted to prove something, or even engaged the deceased in a road rage battle that ended at his home.

I keep reading the deceased was "armed," but the reports I saw never said with WHAT.  We are left to assume it was a firearm, but we all know that's not a given.  Baseball bat, knife, crowbar, rebar, machete ....

Investigators found that Lozano, who was armed, forced his way into the
home and was shot by Florez. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

So much about this incident went unreported to the point they might as well have just reported the headline:

Big Spring Police say Joel Adrian Florez, 43, was charged with murder after
he shot and killed an armed home intruder, Phillip Samuel Lozano, 36.

That's pretty much the Reader's digest condensed version of the story given the facts provided -- and not provided.
