Firearms and Accessories / Re: Last call for M1 Garands?
« on: September 20, 2016, 02:44:49 PM »
Received this today from the CMP:

"Per the newly completed and signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the U.S. Army and the Civilian Marksmanship Program, M1 Garands will be limited to eight per calendar year, per customer. The new limit of eight M1 Garands goes into effect immediately and any customer who has purchased over eight will not be allowed to purchase more M1 Garands until 1 Jan., 2017. The CMP considers any item containing an M1 Garand receiver with a serial number to be an M1 Garand and will deduct from the eight M1 Garand rifle limit per year."

Not saying that they are closing towards being completely gone, but sales restrictions do say a way lower stock on-hand.

General Discussion / Re: Re-parkaize a M1

Deans the owner of DGR passed away. He redid my M1 and did an awesome job. Shuffs was another option with a very solid reputation. His parkerizing is well known. The CMP custom shop is another off island option. I dont know anyone that can compare to mainland M1 smiths.
You could do a paint like Ceracoat but I think thats awful to do to an M1.

I am leaning now towards the CMP shop. They can help get me a new stock to boot. I did not mind having to pay a higher price if it allowed me to skip the logistics of shipping it back and forth to the Mainland.

Someone recommended a shop called JHD in Kaneohe, but I was not able to find any information about it.

To me the entire rifle. The receiver is in decent shape, but the barrel and other parts need it.

Does anyone on island have the capability to re-parkarize a M1? I just bought one that is in need of some upkeep.

General Discussion / Are private sales dead?
« on: January 06, 2016, 01:31:36 PM »
I know the executive action signed on January 5th contains language about who is, and who isn't allowed to sell firearms without a FFL license, or when this will actually take effect. I also know that nothing has been formally explained to the public, and law enforcement, by the DoJ. My question is: are private sales dead until they are defined, and has anyone attempted to process a private transfer with HPD since the announcement?

Thanks in advance.

I assume then you are not shooting lead? As I am sure you are aware the biggest cost of a reload is the bullet. And lead costs a lot less. And the 500 is a perfect candidate for shooting lead. With a gas checked bullet you can shoot full power loads as well.

I shoot lead out of my Ruger Super Redhawk. I get my bullets for around $0.15 each. Which puts my reloads at under $0.30 per round. Just a suggestion.

Good points. I just never really did the research into lead. The jacketed just put me into a tunnel vision

It's fun, just a beast to keep on feeding even through reloads.

You could also get a SW 329PD. It's got a scandium frame, weighs 1 oz heavier than a glock 17 and shoots 44 mag. Been reading that it kicks more than a SW 500. Young guns had one.

I did look at the 329pd, but I decided if I was to break my self imposed buying "ban", I would go with a S&W 460.

I think it was part of the Defense Authorization Act that Obama vetoed.  Still not a sure thing.

This was part of the Defense Authorization Act that was vetoed. No way they will get the 2/3rds needed to override it..

Applied for my last two handgun permits today. I am now going to concentrate on learning to reload and the material for that process.

X-Ring  has usually been my choice for FFL,. They have been great on my tardiness due to scheduling for permits and pickups.

I will be using OGC and Ready on the Right for my next two transfers, never dealt with either before. Please don't ask why I had to choose two separate FFL's for these individual purchases.

Would a statement to HPD from UPS admitting that the package was incorrectly delivered help?

If not, legal consul should probably be your next step.
