Quote
As a whole, the U.S. military is far better educated than the American population it defends.
82.8% of U.S. military officers in 2010 had at least a bachelor’s degree, compared to 29.9 percent of the general population.
93.6% of enlisted soldiers had at least a high school diploma, compared to 59.5% of America.

I used to ride my bike through Pico Rivera and places far worse.
Although well qualified, I was refused a job in a shop in Compton
CA because the owner, a black man, worried that a white kid,  me, would be
in danger, in an all Black environment.
I went and got a job in the Wilmington district of LA.
building boats. I had served an apprenticeship in a boat junk yard.
I'm very deplorable.  These democrat guys don't have a clue
what they are dealing with and what we know.

This guy is an out of touch liberal who's putting actual intellectuals in danger with his hate speech.

On the other hand it's true that the military does target people for recruitment who have no other options and can't see through the lies until it's too late and they are stuck in a war zone on the far side of the planet fighting for Coca Cola and Exxon Mobil.

He mentioned on social media that he has a 1st amendment right...he will find out really quickly that you lose that when you're employed.

Private employers should have the right to terminate employees at will; however, terminating employees who express their first amendment right violates the spirit of the US Bill of Rights.  If I wanted to have an educational discussion in the workplace raising the awareness of the Second Amendment, as long as it is not soliciting any political action, then I should be in my right to do so without fear of employer retaliation.

Define an "actual intellectual".

You seem to be equating that to liberals.................

Well it's definitely not "high level bankers or academic people" like he seems to think.

If you would like to keep listing what an "actual intellectual" is not, eventually we'll get down to what it is by process of elimination.

So, if you don't know what an actual intellectual is, what other things is it not?  We have all the time you need.   :geekdanc:

Who's this "we" you are talking about? And why do I have the distinct feeling of punji stakes digging into the side of my leg?

When you post accusations and then get called out on your comments, you're bound to experience some degree of discomfort.

The bigger the lie, the more intense the pain.

This guy is an out of touch liberal who's putting actual intellectuals in danger with his hate speech.

Where do you get that "fact?"  From watching "Stripes" and "Private Benjamin?"  Have you ever visited a recruiter?  We won't insult you just because you say you have.  Promise.

What are you guys trying to do, prove him right? The knee jerk reaction to defending the military if someone says something critical is an interesting social phenomenon. As if the supposedly most powerful organization on earth will fall to pieces if it gets it's feeling hurt.

You just became the punchline to your own joke.

Obviously we've hurt your feelings (more punji sticks, or are you good for now?)

Wow, Flapp. Your insult game is so amazing that I have no idea what you are talking about.

Insults?  You're the one insulting those who join the military.

You really think young men and women joining today are too stupid to know there are conflicts going on they could be sent to?

Are the recruiters really lying to high schoolers and people with few options to fill quotas?

Why don't you stop insulting the military and try doing some real research for real facts?  Lies are just too easy for lazy people to latch onto.

I enlisted because I wanted to do something instead of sit back and watch things unfold.
It's the freedom of choice I made.
You're free to stereotype those of us that joined. Call us names. I don't give a shit. Those are your character traits. I don't care for it. It's your freedom to speak and have an opinion.
But while you were doing that I did a few tours overseas came back and earned my degrees up to the graduate level. It was all paid for by the military.

I never called you names or stereotyped you or anyone else. That's Flapp's game because obviously he likes being angry and taking it out on other people.

My criticism is aimed at the predatory aspects of the organization and the larger political structure that has turned it from a DOD to the world's most expensive Jobs Program with the unfortunate side effects of death, destruction, and national financial insolvency.

It's a good thing that you were able to get an education, but why is that version of socialism acceptable but offering it to everyone is distasteful and/or unAmerican?

These are the questions that need to be asked in a free society.
