CALEA Public Notice

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) is scheduled for an on-site assessment by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The international accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, the public is invited to phone in comments by calling (808) 723-3454 on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public may also attend a public comment session that same day at 5:30 p.m. in the Hearings Room, located in the Mission Memorial Building (MMB), 550 South Beretania Street. Free public parking is available after 4:30 p.m. in the parking garage. Entrance to the parking garage is on South Beretania Street. Please follow parking signs and do not park in reserved stalls. Persons wanting to submit written comments may write to the CALEA at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155; or visit their website at www.calea.org.

Telephone comments and appearances at the public comment session will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the HPD’s ability to comply with the CALEA’s standards of accreditation. A copy of the standards is available for review at the HPD’s Professional Standards Office located in the Alapai headquarters. The office is open Monday through Friday, from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For more information, please call the Professional Standards Office at (808) 723-3775.
