So what's everyones options for mask for COVID
« on: July 16, 2020, 09:14:59 AM »
Just curious since N95s have not been sold off the shelf for some time now.  Many using cloth, surgical mask.  Seen online more inventions of mask that use N95 type filters.  Even some on Kickstarter.

The new mask are a lot less bulky than a P100 respirator used by carpenters.

I use a various types.  I have N95, FDA EUL KN95, other KN95, and cloth masks with different filter materials.  Filter materials include sheets of copper fabric and others.

in case anyone needs to know where to get industrial masks:

If you will be in high risk areas (working with sick patients, on a crowded plane, etc) the industrial supply sites have full and partial face masks in stock.  You have to also pair it with p95 or 100 filters.

I have a set of 3M full face masks that I had in my emergency supplies for VOG but was glad to have them well before covid started.

MSC has 62 varieties in stock.  remember to get the filters as well
https://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tn/Safety/Personal-Protective-Equipment/Respiratory-Protection/Facepieces-Assemblies-Cartridges/Half-Full-Facepieces?navid=12106762

The advantage of many of these is that filters are washable and so have indefinite lifespans especially when not used in industrial environments.

I have a couple 7500 series masks for work. That site had the filters in stock. I haven’t seen them in stock in a long time. I have some P100 filters from work, but I haven’t used those masks during CV19. I’ve seen a lot of folks using those masks though. But my highest risk exposure are trips to the grocery store. I may be flying outer islands next month.

Mrs. CMO was on Big Island in Jan or so.  Local hardware store had choke P100 respirators on the shelf and replacement filters.  So she bought 2 and filters.  She went back a month later and all were sold out.

I have n95, kn95, cloth with filter inserts, medical blue, level 2, and pink level 3 masks
I work at an outpatient clinic, so i'm not front line but we are getting busier. at work i'll wear the medical ones, or the kn95 with the medical one on top.  I like the fit of the kn95 best. maybe its the shape of my face but it just seems to fit best and be comfortable.  the n95's fit really good too but I don't like that they are really tight and squeeze my nose and face by my eyes.  its mostly due to the straps being so tight but I guess that's how its supposed to be.  i'll use the n95 if i'm doing painting, sanding, etc
not at work i'll use the cloth with the pm2.5 filter
when I go to the range I use my Ruger mask
I pick the masks that fit best on my face.  get a good seal as possible

I have about a dozen N95s left, but I like this Norton dust respirator that I put a PM2.5 filter inside.  I have about 50 of the PM filters.

Masks with valves are not recommended and are outright banned in some places.  HA recently announced they will not allow masks with valves to be used on their flights.  Not sure if that mask has a valve, but it looks like it.

Simple solution: cover the mask with a bandanna.

Lowes Kona had N95 non surgical masks.  It has a gel around the edges for comfort, box of 10 filters with valves for $34.95.  Certified for welding and PM2.5 filtration.
