Off Topic / USPS Sucks!
« on: May 07, 2016, 12:27:24 PM »
I've relied on USPS for many years without mishap until this year.  I've already had a couple of shipping snafus this year which resulted in substantial delays in my receipt of goods purchased and am now looking at another one.  I ordered a receiver vice block from someone in California and USPS decides to send the darned thing to Florida!

Off Topic / Sports Authority Bites the Dust

Well, it looks like another big box store is biting the dust. Too bad, I liked SA. It was a decent one-stop shop for sporting goods.

Look for the fire sales soon!

Off Topic / Cost of Dumpster Rental
« on: January 13, 2016, 06:51:39 PM »
Anybody know what the cost of a dumpster rental is in Hawaii? I'm re-roofing my house by myself and am interested in renting the smallest dumpster available (10 cubic feet). I'm doing it in sections so I'll need it for several days.

General Discussion / Anything worthwhile checking out in Phoenix?
« on: September 30, 2015, 10:24:27 AM »
I'm headed to Phoenix for a week beginning next week to hang out with a bud and his family. My bud just so happens to be a gun nut. I was wondering if there's anything (firearms related) worth checking out while I'm there? Are there any LGS or shooting ranges out there worth visiting? If not, is there anything worth noting about it's firearm laws? CCW? Open carry? Etc.?

Firearms and Accessories / Question for Shotgunners on POI
« on: July 06, 2015, 10:05:13 AM »
Just picked up my very first shotgun last week from a fellow 2AH member. It's an 18" 12ga with ghost ring sights. I bought some 1oz slugs from the LGS and took it out to the range yesterday and shot a few holes through a paper target at the 50 yd mark. I was able to get the shots lined up vertically but couldn't raise the POI high enough to get near the bullseye because I ran out of adjustment. The shots were averaging about 8" - 10" low which indicated that I needed to raise my rear sight higher. Is my shot placement normal at that distance or should I be a lot closer to the POI ?

Reloading / Does anyone have a gauge block?
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:19:54 AM »
Does anyone have a gauge block I can use to test my new digital caliper that I purchased for reloading?  My cheap Harbor Freight Analog 6" dial caliper gave up the ghost so I replaced it with another relatively inexpensive digital one that has good ratings. I tested the new caliper against other measuring devices in my tool box and am getting a different reading that's well beyond the reported tolerance of the new caliper. I'd like to test the new caliper against a gauge block to determine if the caliper is defective and if so, return it within the 14 day return period but do not have one. Any help would be appreciated.

Firearms and Accessories / Brushes, jags, mops and loops
« on: April 14, 2015, 02:21:10 PM »
I've seen brass brushes, stainless brushes, spiral wire brushes, brass jags and loops and cotton bore mops. I've only used the brass brushes and jags and on rare occasion, a loop when i don't have the proper jag. I also use a mop with tap water when cleaning out my Mosin. While I have an idea of how the other cleaning implements are supposed to be used it's just that: an idea. Aside from brass brushes and jags, what do you use for bore cleaning and when is it appropriate to use the other devices?

General Discussion / Do Hawaii Pawn Shops Sell Firearms?
« on: April 14, 2015, 11:43:05 AM »
I occasionally run into forum threads about someone on the mainland finding a good deal on a firearm at a local pawn shop.  Since we've got a few pawn shops here in Hawaii, I'm wondering whether any of these shops carry and sell used firearms. Has anyone checked them out?

General Discussion / Any news on the ARX100?
« on: November 18, 2014, 08:31:25 PM »
Beretta's ARX100 has been out for a short while. I've seen them over at OGC and my guess is that other LGS probably have them as well.  Has anybody tried it yet? Been also looking at the Kel-Tec RDB Bullpups that just hit the market. My attention was drawn to it after doing my homework on the Tavor. Too new IMO to really know how this gun stands up to its competitors. Still, the fact that it is new and has a 5lbs. trigger compared to the Tavor's infamous trigger intrigues me.

General Discussion / Any Local Firearms Appraiser?
« on: September 04, 2014, 02:01:00 PM »
I've got an attorney friend who is looking for a firearms appraiser for valuating the individual/collective value of firearms owned by an estate for distribution and tax purposes. I've seen a previous post where members suggested that the firearms be listed here for forum members to view but I believe the attorney is looking for the opinion of someone with the expertise or proper certification if there is such a thing. Does anybody know of someone in Hawaii that meets the description?

TIA

Legal and Activism / Registering a Yugo Mauser M24/47 as C&R
« on: August 04, 2014, 09:33:24 AM »
Has anyone registered a Yugo Mauser M24/47 (as opposed to M48) locally as a C&R?

These rifles are not on the BATF C&R list but I understand that these rifles do qualify as C&R. I also understand that there is no way to identify the manufacturing date from the serials and that there may be no stamps to indicate the manufacturing date. If so, how does an 03 FFL holder establish that the rifle is 50+ years old and/or otherwise qualifies as a C&R?

TIA

Fark~
