Glock 21C vs Springfield XDM45
« on: July 13, 2013, 04:16:44 PM »
I decided to do a full size 45acp comparison between the Glock 21C and the Springfield XDM45

Comparison:
Caliber: XDM 45acp.   Glock 45acp
Barrel:   XDM 4.5".      Glock. 4.6"
Height:  XDM 4.75"     Glock  5.47"
Length: XDM  8.0"      Glock 7.59"
Weight: XDM 31oz     Glock 29oz

I shot groups at 15 feet, 21 feet and 30 feet.
All groups were shot with 2 hands, standing unsupported.

The first picture is the Glock results.
Top 2 is from 15 feet.
Bottom 2 is from 21 feet

The second picture is the XDM results.
Top 2 is from 15 feet.
Bottom 2 is from 21 feet.

The third picture is Glock on top from 30 feet, XDM on bottom from 30 feet.

Ammo used was Federal 230gr FMJ

Impressions:
Both guns felt solid and shot straight.
Zero malfunctions of any kind with either gun.
The Glock grip is fatter than the XDM grip. While this didn't affect handling or performance, it is noticeable.
Both triggers broke smoothly and clean. I think I preferred the XDM trigger by a slight margin.
The stock sights on the XDM were perfectly aligned from the factory.
The Glock sported a pair of Heinie night sights, which I really didn't like. It seemed very hard to pick up the sights against the black colored targets.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Nice. Thanks for sharing your results. What ammo did you use (manufacturer and grain)?

I'm shopping for a 45. Hard to tell from your largish groups, were you using a rest?

No rest, 2 handed from a standing position.

would've been better with a rest because the groups are pretty big even with 2 hands no rest were you shooting isoceles or weaver?

I wasn't trying for unrealistic bench rest groups.

I was trying to show exactly what the gun can do in a regular shooters hands.

The XD looks better with bullseye scoring (more 10s and 9s)

Both look excellent for combat shooting.
