With our state govt always doing whatever it can to stop us from harming ourselves (eg. COVID) why wouldn't they save our precious hearing and legalize suppressors? It goes along with their agenda aimirite? Yet somehow we are one of the last 8 states where suppressors are still illegal. Anything in the works to change this?

Looking at having some cerakote/gunsmithing done to a barreled action and some bolts fluted too and send to mainland. The gunsmith is an FFL so I don't believe shipping them is an issue but can they send straight back to me once work is completed? I don't have to go through an FFL do I? I don't even know where to look or even to look at county ( Maui) or state law ? I had a savage bolt gun warrantied in the past and I want to say they sent it straight back to me but that was a long time ago. Any info appreciated including best practices for shipping, figured I'd check here first.

General Discussion / Maui chrono/ long range question
« on: February 01, 2023, 10:45:01 AM »
I think I know the answer, but it doesn't hurt to ask. I should draw a couple solid elk and mule deer tags in the next several years and I'm trying to get more proficient at longer distances though practice and better equipment. The equipment part is coming along but I was wondering if...

A.) there is anywhere you can shoot further than 200 yards besides ukumehame?
B.) is there anywhere you can rent or use a chronograph to get a muzzle velocity reading?

I plan to dial in my dope through trial and error and I hunt lanai regularly but these things would probably help expedite things.

Any insight would be appreciated.

bonus question how much of a pain is it going to get 6.5 cm ELD X or ELD M on maui?

General Discussion / Black powder rifle on maui
« on: February 18, 2021, 08:54:18 PM »
i was looking at getting my first muzzleloader on maui. just a basic one for hunting.  Im pretty sure i can just get it shipped to my house if im correct but what issues will i have in terms of getting muzzleloading supplies on maui? iis it a huge pain to get powder and bullets? I don;t want to hoard anything I just want to get started and go on a couple hunts with it. Western muzzleloader odds are a whole lot better than rifle.

General Discussion / Red Dot vs Nikon p223 scope for AR?
« on: May 16, 2014, 03:00:37 PM »
im currently running a vortex sparc on my Ar. dont really shoot it all that much as ammo is so expensive. mostly just keep it stashed as a home defense/SHTF gun. took it to the range the other day and shot it for the first time in a while. mostly just shooting paper standing at 100 and 50 yards. not that fun for me. wish i had steel or something to plink but its not that possible and i wont be running 3 gun comps any time soon. i think if i was shooting groups or a took it hunting once in a while itd be more fun. think .223 would be fine on goats pigs and deer. i dont really think id be comfortable though taking an animal past 150 with the red dot which has me looking at the  p223 3x9 bdc by nikon or maybe even the 4x12. (sparc does have a magnifier but i dont like it that much. i have a 4x14 nikon buckmaster bdc on my 30-06 and i love it. any of you guys running either of these setups or can debate the pros or cons?for me pros for the red dot are its better for close range with to easy to acquire target picture but i dont like relying on a battery for a red dot (it is cowitnessed though) and i dont like its long range capabilities for hunting. Pros for the p223 3x9 would be better long distance shooting for hunting and better for groups on paper at the range. cons i guess close range and lowlight but at 3x i think acquiring target wouldnt be too much of an issue. not interested in another red dot or holographic sight, just have it narrowed to these 2. thanks for the feedback

General Discussion / Storing your ammo in the hawaiian humidity?
« on: October 26, 2013, 01:47:54 PM »
I only shoot maybe about once a month and i have a decent amount of ammo stored for "just in case." my handgun ammo is stored in one of those locked stackon metal gun cabinets with my guns and my rifle ammo is under my bed. I recently had a discussion with someone who advised me that storing ammo for too long in hawaii the humidity can cause problems and it can go bad? is this accurate or no? for how long would it be good for in this climate? or what do you guys do to prevent against the humidity? thanks

Legal and Activism / Private party firearm transfer/sale question?
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:35:26 PM »
howzit new to the forum. Had a question about selling/transferring a firearm. My friend who lives in CA is coming here next month and interested in buying my pistol from me. What would be the procedure for this? Would he need to obtain a permit to acquire a handgun and wait 14 days and then I can transfer it to him like any other resident purchasing a handgun for the 1 st time hawaii? He used to live here but a CA resident now and never owned a firearm. and hes only here for a week so that probably wouldnt work. Or can we just go to an FFL or the police department and transfer it to him? Assuming he will need to get a permit but anyone in the know please inform me. thanks!
