The reviews have concerns about privacy of the cloud storage (being a china based storage network?).  What are your thoughts about that?

It seems kind of oxymoronic to be concerned about privacy when discussing surveillance cameras.   O0

After all, unless you are the only one to ever enter your house (other than trespassers), visitors are having to trust you with their "privacy", too.

The video data is stored on a local SD card, is transmitted to my phone app, and stored on a cloud server. At any one of those points, the video can be compromised and accessed. As long as the company is abiding by the user agreement and using appropriate commercially available measures to protect my data, it's no more or less secure than my texts or other WiFi devices.

True on what you are saying. Just being the camera is an interior cam, hard to let that privacy so easily, maybe not easily, accessible to companies or hackers.

If you intend to do anything you don't want recorded, it's easy to move, unplug or otherwise block the camera for that point in time. Your camera -- your control.

One thing this camera has that's nice is the magnetic base. You can mount the included metal ring to a wall or other surface, and the camera just sticks to it. You can stick it to any surface that's permeable, like a fridge, storage cabinet, gun safe or shelf. Easy to move to wherever you want it monitoring.

Personally, I'm not worried about someone accessing video of mine. I have the cameras inside to catch people doing what they shouldn't be and to monitor the pets when I'm not home.  I lead a very boring life.  If someone wants my video, they obviously have nothing interesting going on in their own life!   :geekdanc:

Maybe you should subscribe to Chinese porn sites -- just to be extra sure your videos aren't being uploaded.

It would be tough checking each one thoroughly, might be doable..

That is why I'm going to unplug the unit when I'm home.  Don't want to open myself for someone hacking in.  I even cover the cameras on computer and xbox with black tape.

Also to save on electricity.  I noticed when I unplug the xbox when not in use, I save $20 a month on electricity.

Game consoles, smart TVs & disc players, DVRs -- any appliance that's connected to a network, WiFi or cable TV port is probably eating electricity. They are called "Vampire Loads", because they are sucking the money out of your pockets.

Smart power strips and smart UPS devices have a Master plug outlet that disables the switched outlets.  If you have your TV plugged into the master outlet, when it's off, the switched devices' outlets are disabled.  It's one solution to avoiding the Vampire loads, but the simplest is to use a power strip with a switch you can turn off when no one is using those devices.  I have about 4 Smart Strips in use.  Hawaii Energy runs deals now and then where you can get a Smart Strip and LED bulbs for a super cheap price.

There are newer strips now that let you program and monitor each outlet/device, and sets timers to automatically turn everything off.  You use a smart App on your phone or tablet to control and view the energy usage.  There's also a model that reads IR pulses from remotes. If there's been no remote pulse in a set time period, it powers everything off.

As for the cameras, you really can't predict when you'll need that camera on. Home invasion, guest breaks something, dog bites a guest, car crashes into the living room ...  You'll be saying, "Man, if only my cameras were on, I'd have that on video!"

Something to consider.

Very true, but in my situation, guest don't come in, no pets, I'm on the 2nd floor (no car driving in).  And in Hawaii, having a camera video your defensive tactics would probably hurt you more than help.  I would let the evidence speak for it's self and consult my attorney before making any statements.  I do have other layers of protection if needed so deadly force isn't the only option if time permits.  We all have a plan, but plan for that plan to fail and you will have to adapt.

Defensive tactics?  You mean crying like a little girl, peeing on yourself, and curling up into the fetal position?   Yeah, I wouldn't want video evidence of that, either.

From another perspective, if you did everything right, video would exonerate you.  Many Cops have been falsely accused of abuse, and their body cams cleared them.  So, if the guy breaking in claims he was surrendering when you shot him, that video could be useful to you.

Vid of the crying would help. It shows i gave up and wet myself to reinforce his dominance. But still had to use deadly force after all of that.

But in the end, its my word versus the word of the guy who broke into my home and who probably has prior arrest.  1000s of senerios but personally i dont want something watching my every move.

What if i said he had a gun. Then shot him, but he was able to run away with gun in hand and toss the gun. No gun found by hpd. Vid would prove i was right.
