Hahahahahahah.  I tried the savage, didnt like the action on it.
The others you listed, never heard of them, so looks like i have a lot more reading and shouldering to do.  Who keeps those guns in stock? And what is sub moa?
Thanks for the tip pit.

And also keoni, after reading apparently there is not much difference between the remmingtons.

KingKeoni is right, 700's are like the Ford F150 of rifles.  I know for sure Sports Authority has Vanguard's (not sub moa's, but MANY of them are anyway), and usually have Tikka T3's.  I've seen TC ventures there in the past, but not so much anymore.

Sub minute of angle - short answer - able to shoot groups under 1 inch

Pics are always appreciated so here is my Howa 1500 (same action as Vanguard) in a Bell&Carlson stock, timney trigger, Falcon Menace FFP scope on EGW mount.  Shoots tiny groups, but I wouldn't want to take it hunting.

Actually for hunting in Hawaii you wanna go as lite as you can, so I change my pick and would choose the Tikka T3 lite as #1.  It has a little different look to it, but man was it smooth. Not to mention its parent company is Sako.

Dammit man, you're making me want to buy one again  ;)

Tough question. I'm gonna guess we are in the budget to mid price range.
Everyone will have an opinion on what they think is the "best" and why. Weight, stock shape, bolt/action/trigger feel, aftermarket support, ect. All play a big part into defining "best" for a particular person.
I personally can't stand the look and feel of the savage action but will admit they are generally very accurate off the shelf rifles.
I have not been impressed by off the shelf 700's for their price and to "vanilla" for my taste.
My personal pick would be the weatherby vanguard (sub moa if available, if not that's ok). Made by Howa of Japan. I love the feel of the action, and very solid rifle. The reviews speak for themselves.
My second choice would probably be a tikka, also a very smooth action.
Third would be a TC venture
Just my picks, you gotta shoulder them and cycle it to really make a decision.
Hope I didn't make your decision harder :shaka:

Sorry,
I was looking at it from the idea that you would not be able to fix it with "correct" parts or to normal working condition. if i didn't have parts availability that would have been my back up plan.

Ok guys, don't lynch me for this, but since there were no conditions specified (zombie hordes, SHTF, WTFIGO (what the f*ck is going on))

I'm gonna say for simplicity sake and last foreverness (is that a word?)

TC contender. Stainless of course.  The frame/action is built to handle high power rifle calibers.

Unless your barrel or frame exploded, I bet you could still rig up some type of inline spring mechanism that would strike the firing pin if the internal action took a dump.

done and done

I'm all about KISS

So thats where all the varget went.....   ;D

I'll play too.....

Here is my homemade bench/cabinet.  Nothing fancy, just functional.

To the right of my bench I have my sorted brass and equipment

I got one of those stack on cabinets from Sports Authority when they were on sale and mounted shelves in it.

Hi everyone,
New to the forum and saying hello. I'm local born turned Army brat. Also prior US Army.  Bow and gun hunter, C&R holder, reloader, and a lover of all things with a trigger.
I'm very interested in attending one of the fun shoots one of these days.  Any info on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Reloading / Re: Flattened Primers
« on: September 08, 2011, 10:25:30 AM »
What brand of brass?
I've noticed federal is really soft and primer pockets sometimes get loose even after just one firing.  Couple that with Federal (I think) primers which are slightly more loose fitting than say CCI's, and you will have loose fitting primers.  These will flatten much easier than normal even with moderate pressure.
Do you have a hand primer or just using the press? I like to hand prime some of the cases in a batch so I can "feel" how loose the pocket is.

Just throwing it out there that it may be his brass/loose fitting primers.

Personally, I would drop the charge to book starting load and hand weigh each charge (10 rds each), go to WGS or wherever and pick up a small number of unfired Winchester brass, seat to whatever the book says for OAL, factory crimp, and wear your eye protection ;D

I try (but don't always follow my own advice) to do load development with the least number of variables, new brass, using same brand of primers, ect.

Hope you find the problem.
