It's only 5 minutes of your life,if that.

You mean black powder substitutes. None of the LGS carry Black Powder.  :shaka:

SEC probably has the best prices. WGS probably has the best selection of different powders. Young Guns also carries some powders. I remember X-Ring had some powder but that was quite a while ago.

If you come to the rifle range on a Sunday stop by the far right 6-8 benches and say hello to us. I am usually at Bench 94. We are a group of Black Powder and MILSURP enthusiasts. We shoot both black powder pistols and rifles. Some of us shoot Black Powder exclusively. Some of us mix it up.

If you have never shot Black Powder let me know ahead of time I can bring some real Black Powder that you can shoot through your gun so you can experience the difference between Real Black Powder and the substitutes.

I'll try and stop by.  How late do you stay at the range?  Ordered a Uberti 1860 colt.  My very first black powder gun.  Found 777 FFFg at Young Guns.  Can you recommend a load using using .454 ball?
Thanks, Jim

The pistol range RO's make up their own rules.  "You can not leave a loaded magazine on the table during a cease-fire"(not in the rules).
I was on the rifle range and a young RO came over from the pistol range that day, told me I couldn't leave a loaded magazine on the bench during a cease-fire.
I walked over to Mike and asked his opinion, he told me and the RO that a loaded magazine can be left on the bench.

Well I do hope they eventually put metal plate back up past the 100yard line. Its quite easy to angle the plates so that any potential deflection goes into the dirt, and they can always add tires or other measures like creating a shack around the plates to further contain any flyers. I know from using longer distance ranges on the mainland that few people wanted to lug their target frames out to 200+ yards repeatedly , and that was on leveled and graded ground. The rough terrain and brush behind the 100 yard line makes it even less likely that people would do the same at KHSC, to say nothing of the long ceasefires required to allow people to come and go out to those ranges.

Easy answer. Only allow targets to be set beyond 100yds before range opens and take down after close.

CNN reporting 60 people shot and 9 killed. Other news are reporting 82 people shot and 14 killed. Aren't guns banned in Chicago?

General Discussion / Re: KOKO HEAD RANGE
« on: March 11, 2014, 11:15:19 AM »
Agree, Tom_G.

I personally think that the more compelling issue is the original intent/approval of the Complex.

If the 440 targets exceed the original intent/approval of the Complex, then sadly, as others have pointed out, because the City has been placed on notice, anything beyond the original intent/approval (100 yard line) may be a thing of the past.
There are pipes in the ground at 200 and 300yds for target stands.  The only difference from the 100yd pipes is the width.  This leads me to believe that the range was designed for 200 and 300 yd paper targets.

This whole problem is based on the premiss that bullets were some how landing outside of the range.  First it was claimed that the problem was ricochets.  No proof and the chance of ricochet traveling a mile and a half after climbing some 600' is a pipe dream.  Then we were accused of intentionally shooting over the top of Koko Crater.   Never proved by angle of impact, which would be close to 70 degrees down.
I know first hand that we have been shooting out to 440 yds for at least 14 years.  Im sure that this must go even longer.   All of a sudden in the year of 2013 bullets mysteriously  started falling from the sky.
Does this whole dialogue seem some what unreal!
