« on: August 20, 2020, 02:29:07 PM »
Anybody know the cheapest ffl i can find on island. The ffls listed online are out of date, charge too much($60+), are shut down, etc.

I got a really good deal on gunbroker, and i dont want ffl costs driving it up. Please list one if you know, and thank you

FFL costs and shipping are always a factor when buying on GB or any other online gun retailer.  They should be factored in when deciding on the online price versus what a LGS would charge.  Of course, sometimes you can't find what you want here, and a special order would usually be more than what you are finding in stock online.

Do you qualify for any standard discounts?

Active or retired military?

Police Dept?

Are you purchasing multiple firearms?  Some offer discounts for doing more than one transfer in the same transaction.

What FFL is closest to you? Cost of gas and time having to drive there and back might not be worth saving $5.

From what was explained to me, the cost of labor to handle a transfer is about $25 per transaction.  That includes having to receive, inventory, store, and transfer to the buyer -- all of which requires time to do paperwork.  If there are any problems, then their cost increases, yet they don't get any additional compensation for dealing with the problems.

Everybody wants the best deal they can get, but you need to look at the bigger picture.  Is there a LGS you enjoy shopping and buying with?  Is there one near your home or workplace that is where you will most often buy your ammo?

If so, you should consider supporting that shop with the FFL transfer fee so they can continue offering good service, inventory and prices to meet all your needs.

Personally, I think any price under $50 is reasonable, and anything less than $40 is more than fair.  OGC offers FFL transfers for $40/Firearm, and Active Duty Military or LE members with valid credentials pay $25/Firearm.

In my personal experience, if you do enough business with a LGS, they may be inclined to cut you a break on a transfer.  I've benefited more than once from being a regular customer, which equates to money in my pocket.  Most LGS would also appreciate a chance to meet or beat any great deals you find online.  I've been told twice that my online find was below the store's cost.  They normally appreciate the chance to compete, even if they have to pass on making a better offer.

Food for thought.

BTW, I just noticed OGC has a policy now on storage.  Unless you get pre-approval in writing for a variance (like being in the military and getting deployed), OGC will store a firearm for 90 days for free.  After that, if you still haven't picked it up, they will charge $32/month storage fees.

I'm not sure what other FFLs are doing, but storage cost, if any, is another thing to factor into your transfer.  The way HPD reservations for permits are going now, you may need more than 3 months to get a permit and pick up your gun.

Thank you guys so much, that was all really informative. Much mahalo, and OGC tactical does in fact seem to be the best option for me.

Just a side note:  due to the registration craziness we’ve been waiving storage for Guns arriving March or later at least until this is over.  That doesn’t get the guys who have left guns in our armory over a year off the hook!
