Hong Kong belonged to china, then was transferred to the British where it got its new identify and culture.  It wasn’t communist and was fairly democratic and its people preferred it to be that way after that agreement expired.  China decided to take over forcibly and Hong Kong “lost” the war.
You and the annexation of Hawaii…Hawaii lost its war too, that’s in the past.  The American republic is still strong.  It is declining but I fault that a bit to trump.  We must expand not contract.  Teach the ways of America to the world.  Better the world with freedom and democracy.  Fight socialists and communists.  Unite the world.

You had to go there...

I’m not sure we could win a war, even a limited one, or even a proxy war against China at this point. Especially being so close to their mainland. I believe if Trump wins, China waits. If Biden wins, Harris will let China do as it pleases. Taiwan is not in NATO so we have no requirement to defend them. It would be in our best interest to do so, but I’m not sure we would win if we did. Let’s face it, our last administration let our military rot away. Even in 4 years I doubt we could bring back what we lost in 8 years. Plus the Chinese have a lot of our technology.

If Trump were to be elected and China did invade Taiwan, I think our carriers and aircraft could do some damage. But I don’t think another country would allow us to have access to their airfields because if we launch strikes on China that country is putting itself into the war against China. I just don’t think there is another country with the balls to allow that to happen. I think we are just too close to China’s mainland to be able to defeat them. If nothing else they could overrun us with numbers.

All of this is my opinion of course and I certainly can be, and probably am wrong. I’m in no way an expert in this field.

I don't think a country has to be a UN or NATO member to warrant a "visit" by those "peace keepers".  If the US wants to go into a country to stop violence, genocide, etc, the coalition would be at the request of the US, not the country needing our help.

Ever hear of Serbia?  Not a UN/NATO member.

Syria is not a member of the UN yet they sent resources and people to help in the war-torn country and supports US military action there.

I think you misunderstood what I said. Or perhaps I don’t understand why you posted what you did.

I said we are not required to defend Taiwan because they are not in nato. But it is in our best interest to do so. I never said we couldn’t or wouldn’t go in. So I’m not sure what your reference is referring to?

Technically we might be required to defend Taiwan.

Mostly expounding than anything else.

I'm being distracted with a crying granddaughter and other things.  Not really able to assimilate what you wrote before typing.

Rough morning/afternoon.

Be careful what you wish for.  One of my best friends has two kids that just passed the "terrible twos".  Even as the "favorite uncle", sometimes they both tested my "favorite" status.  Not surprisingly, the boy was the younger and of course more headstrong.  Cute, but sometimes were  :grrr:

Haha.  Not often really.  And actually quite entertaining at times though.

This strategy didn't work that well for the WW2.  China is the new nazi/imperial japan.  They took over hong kong, we ignored.  They take over more countries and grow more powerful.  If we wait too long we can't stop them like before. Imagine if the USA did nothing in Europe till the Nazis had full control.  America is the shining example of capitalism and democracy, we must lead the world and show our power.  Isolationism most of the time never works out.  Not saying we should save the world and go full globalism but there needs to be a balance.
Almost. The Chinese government are like nazis. The diff is in ww2, the german citizens also backed, followed, and believed in the nazi government.

Unless u have money in china, the citizens do not like their government. But have no 1a to speak out about it as much.

Are you sure all Germans loved and believed in the Nazi Party?

Well, there are a lot of people, who have money in China and many more, who love their government.

Once again, how do you know Chinese people do not like their government?

I never knew there was a war between China and Hong Kong.

My God, please let me know where you are learning your history?

I really need to study the war between Hawaii and the US.

Don't give credit to Trump, for what the Fascists and Imperialists, in the US, have done to America.

We must expand not contract.
Stop it.

Why do you want to exacerbate the US's runaway obesity problem?

Teach the ways of America to the world.
Why would any nation want to have the endless money printing, fascist cops, racial hatred, corrupt national government, illegal foreign wars and occupations, ultrawealthy owning everything, etc. that America possesses?

Better the world with freedom and democracy.
I think the US needs some nation, to come over and bring back freedom and democracy, to the people, of America.

Fight socialists and communists.
No need, to go abroad, to do that.

Unite the world.
To do what, share America's misery and distress, to everyone else?

Not all, all implies 100%.

From my friends who's parents grew up in china and  including in laws who are from china, they "all" dont like chinese government. Both are middle class or lower.

,
Thanks for the clarification.

Prior to Covid-19, I routinely visited China and worked with many Chinese nationals that do business, in the US, and they acknowledged the reality and hatred, of many corrupt CCP officials.  However, almost none has ever shared hatred, to their government.

The only Chinese nationals I ever knew, who openly shared hatred, to the Chinese government, were the ones escaping China, from prosecution, to the US, for usually some kind of financial-related crimes.
