The state has also been holding community meetings and broadcasting public service announcements on TV and the radio to prepare people for a possible attack.

Most importantly, officials are encouraging people to have a plan. Gone are the days of “duck and cover” during the Cold War; today, the mantra is “shelter in place,” preferably in a concrete structure. Officials also recommend having enough food and water to survive for 48 hours, and being prepared with supplies to last up to 14 days.

If North Korea launches a missile, officials estimate it could take about 20 minutes to reach Hawaii. It would take about five minutes for the U.S. to determine where it’s going, which would leave about 12 to 15 minutes to warn the public.

Do you have a lot of alluvial settlement under your land? How far down until you hit solid rock?

There is no solid rock in Hawaii only very porous lava.

Although everyone can be happy that the accuracy of the missiles of the DPRK are suspect, the money being thrown away for the near universally hated rail could have been used to relocate much of the military presence in Hawaii to some other location in the Pacific, which would have helped keep Hawaii from being a target in the first place and would leave room for everyone to buy more 2nd Amendment toys, instead of spending money to build underground shelters.

The Unions in Hawaii would have allowed that relocation?

If presented with the fact that most of them would not be able to build nor be able to access an underground shelter that you fortunately can, then maybe they might have a change of heart.

Intercepting ICBM’s is a near impossible task

Challenge accepted. Hold on while I think of a way, like how all Floridians turned their fans on at once to blow the hurricane away. ;D

Wish the Hawaii government focused on trying to keep the islands out of the lists of military targets to be missile striked from foreign powers...

Seen D-8 bounce off of "porous lava".  :shake:

Seriously. Tell that to the crew that had to rip about 34 feet into the “porous lava” along Honoapiilani Hwy. Layers of pretty solid basalt.

Yeah, I think they government talks about missile defense just to make us feel better.  When Oahu gets flattened, at least I'll rest easy knowing that Trump has the balls to nuke N Korea.

I thought it would take Lil Kim at least 10 years to get a nuke to us.  Looking like a couple years now.  They're successful at something.

A warning would do nothing but cause panic, there is no place to be safe in the case of a nuclear attack, what exactly is the point?  Oh yeah, the illusion of doing something....  maybe pass more gun laws too while they are at it!  Lol!
