Nice!  There were a couple of TOPS fixed blades that I was looking at.  Those seem super sturdy.  I also remember them from the movie Hunted.

I have an ESEE 3 that I have for similar use.  Nice blade, but also one that I've beaten up quite a bit and also have a reputation for being pretty durable.  I just with the steel that they used was more corrosion resistance, but I understand why they selected that steel for that specific blade.

maybe I have to look up that movie

my third Kershaw Link.  probably my favorite folder of Kershaw.
this one is made with Alabama Damascus.  it really looks nice.
these are the properties of the Alabama Damascus steel:

Mike

The steel is made from the following:

 We use (3) layers of 52100, (4) layers of 5160, (3) layers of 203E, and (3)
 layers of 15N20.

The steel is forged out and folded 5 times to give you 416 layers.

The leeks are made from a random pattern. Brad told me that Kershaw is
about to release a knife made from our ladder pattern steel.

 Thanks
 Lacy
 Alabama Damascus Steel

further explanation of the steel:
5160 spring steel
203E low carbon high impact High nickel mild steel alloy
 52100 ball bearing steel
 15N20 band saw blade material

so its a carbon steel which will need to keep oiled.  it will only serve office duty, so it won't see hard use, that's what the M390 is for.   ;)

top is 420HC steel, M390, Damascus

Nice!  I have a Link in M390 and it's been awesome.  Real durable, good test sharpening blade for M390, and more.  Will be interesting how Kershaw's damascus will hold up against corrosion.  The one damascus I have is a custom knife and I was told high carbon, so have to keep oiled.

Emerson Police Update:

The description mentions a "Conventional V-grind".  Well, the primary grind is a V-grind, but the secondary is a chisel grind.  Apparently, most if not all Emersons are like that.  It was interesting that the "main CS" folks at both KnifeCenter and BladeHQ weren't aware of this.  Apparently both have product line specialists though that either are aware or work with the mfrs to coordinate.

I've read where the chisel points are supposedly easier to sharpen for field expedient sharpening as well as more novice users.  I dunno either way, but I'll be finding out.  I've been eyeing a couple of Emerson flippers, but will test this one quite a bit first before trying others.

I have a CRKT with chisel point, but that one doesn't get used much, and never really sharpened.

the Kershaw Damascus is also carbon
Damasteel is supposed to be one of the best Damascus made with stainless steel, supposed to have good corrosion resistance

could not resist this black Friday deal.  MSRP is 350, was on sale for about half that
its a Kizer Mjolnir, named after Thor's hammer.   https://www.bladehq.com/item--Kizer-TK-Knives-Mj-lnir-Frame-Lock--52416
3.75" of M390, 1.6" thick blade, Ti frame lock.  bearings are super smooth, just the weight of the blade closes it.  its not a super snappy opening, but its very reliable smooth opening.  on my snappy opening gauge I give it a 8/10
doesn't have jimping, instead has a cutout on the top of the blade which I think is more comfortable than jimping.
ergonomics of the blade and handle are very good, seems like it would be very good at slashing or downward cutting.  supposed to be a harpoon blade
edges are all smoothed out, no hard edges on the handle
overall it is a very well put together knife. one of my better Kizers

Very nice! I’m a fan of flippers, esp M390 and for that price! I’m tempted to get one too!  I ended up no getting any knives from the Black Fri to Cyber Mon sales. There were plenty that tempted me for sure though. I spent quite a bit on other stuff and had gone a little overboard spending wise the past few months, so put the brakes on. Have to get rid of some knives before adding more. I am tempted to give some away to make room.  :P

maybe my best Kizer. the Vindicator designed by Marshall Noble
designed to be a no nonsense EDC. that's what Marshall Noble said himself after I posted a pic on the Kizer FB page. he said he was glad I like the knife and some other info on it.
I really like it bc it is very functional, light, slim, feels great in my hand, and has a strong detent and a snappy opening, in the pic cant really see the pommel striker on the butt end of the handle but that's some extra function.  looks pretty good too.  really great one from Kizer.  I would rank it up there with any of my ZT's for overall form and function
3.5" of S35VN, 8.375" OAL, 4.66oz weight

Very nice! S35VN and flipper design is

Have been taking a break from blades.  Well, mostly because I have been spending so much on gun stuff, and those darn pesky Christmas presents.

https://www.knifecenter.com/brand/101/kershaw-knives/new

new Kershaw's for 2020.  a few good ones:  Link in CPM20CV, Bareknuckle in CPM20CV (but I don't recommend this one bc it can be difficult to open bc of its design), and they have a balisong in Sandvik 14C28N

new ZT

from what I read, they are about the same.  M390 may be slightly tougher, 20CV may have slightly better edge retention, but personally I cant tell the difference. both are great steel, cant go wrong with either one

A buddy of mine has an interest in making his own knives.  Does anyone know what the estimate ballpark start up cost is?  Assume all used equipment.  I told him to watch forged in fire.  Most guys start out with hand me downs or used equipment in their open garage or back yard.

So probably the following
Anvil
hammer press
hand tools
furnace
belt sander
and any other necessities

That’s the same link I sent Macsak. Haha

My preference is M390 (over 20CV) even though the ratings are same. Mostly due to my success with sharpening M390.

Overall I 100% agree can’t go wrong with either. Pricey though.

I was google searching the difference and found this quote (sorry no citation)
"20CV is a Latrobes version of Bohlers M390"
