do you get to choose what you carry on the job?
or are you required to only use the department issue?

I wonder if he's ever experienced any sort of pepper spray or tear gas.

Pepper spray sin't a gas.  It's a liquid propellant that delivers capsaicin resin.  It causes irritation and difficulty breathing with contact to the skin, eyes and mucous membranes.

The best method IMO is a stream.  It has a longer reach so you don't have to be as close.  It has better aim than a broad spray (doesn't get on people relatively near the target).  It also delivers a more concentrated load of spray.

I think a fog might surprise someone and maybe make them pause, but it's probably not intense enough to incapacitate an attacker long enough to escape to safety.

Tear gas is a different animal completely.  It contains solid particles that can actually scratch your eyes if rubbed, so it's better to rinse with water.  Some ANTIFA protestors took milk to clean out their eyes, but I've never trusted that to be as safe.

When I went through gas mask training, we had to stand in a small house with our masks on while tear gas was released to test the seals on our masks.  Then one at a time, we went up to the instructor, removed our masks, counted to 10 out loud, and left.  I luckily didn't get hit by the gas when I took my mask off.  However, on the bus back to the squadron HQ, I was sitting behind someone who opened their window.  The draft blew the tear gas particles on his jacket into my face, so I got to experience the sensation AFTER my training was over.

really?
you are doubling down?
the case is indefinitely on hold
the DOJ admitted they mishandled the documents, that they broke protocol to take the pictures, they put the top secret covers on non-secret docs
and so on, and so on, and so on...

No idea, but years ago when I was building my AR I bought just the stripped lower and registered it.  Registration says “caliber multi” or something like that.  So I guess if the firearm is registered as a specific caliber maybe you could be open to prosecution.  Like registering a g22 for ccw, then converting it to .50.  If you got caught with that I don’t doubt they would do all they can to prosecute you.

Unless you change the firearm to use a caliber that's banned, there's nothing to prosecute AFAIK.

HPD makes mistakes in the registration information all the time.  i have a registration form that says my Mosin-Nagant 91/30 is a semi-auto rifle.  it's not a stretch to blame it on an administrative error.

As far as your g22 example, it's not the same thing.  If the firearm is registered as a frame or receiver only and then completed, there was no "conversion."  The G22, on the other hand, was registered as one caliber and then converted to another.  However, since the serial number remains the same, that, to me, makes it still the same firearm that was registered on the CCW application.

Unless there's a part of the CCW statute that forbids modification of a CCW pistol's size, barrel length, caliber, etc., it's still a pistol or revolver with the same serial number which matches the CCW license paperwork.

That's not a legal opinion.  It's my own opinion based on the process and law as I read it.

Off Topic / Re: World's Largest Online Scam
« on: May 15, 2024, 02:58:42 PM »
Scams like this are always easier in countries that do not teach or respect individual privacy.

The US educates residents on the risks of sharing too much private information unless you are sure who is getting it and why they need it.  Doesn't mean there are no victims, but the total number could have been much higher without privacy safeguards and individual vigilance against giving out personal data.

When the video started, i assumed it was focused on the QR codes.  Then it went more into social engineering techniques like fake chat rooms.

There's a scam everyone should be careful of.  QR codes are a quick and easy way to get information on just about anything.  Restaurants put codes in menus, manufacturers and retailers  put them on their products to get specs and warranty info, promotional posters use them to drive interested customers to their websites, .... they are literally everywhere.

Scammers have placed stickers with QR codes on brochures, posters and signs to either hide the real QR code or add their own where none existed.  Unsuspecting users follow the codes to those same UR:s we are warned never to click in SPAM emails.  The sites are usually phishing webpages looking for any personal info they can collect on you and possibly convince you of a situation that separates you from your money.

Learn to recognize the safeguards most legit sites use to verify their content so you're more likely to spot a fake that "just doesn't look right."

strongest case?

I considered the photo being made public was at a minimum unprofessional and at worst a fabrication.  The photo of the supposedly classified docs didn't need to be taken at all.  There are regulations forbidding photography of, or in the vicinity of, classified material.

Having the photo published was completely improper as it was part of an active investigation.  The only conclusion is the picture was intended to give the public the wrong impression before the facts were even known.

This all makes perfect sense.  If the cover sheets were already used, it would have made it far less likely they were mishandled and moved to improper storage -- especially if this many classified docs existed and had cover sheets.

Any search team planning to recover classified paper docs would have come prepared with coversheets and proper containers.  For TS, the rules are pretty specific.

U should read the IG comments. All the Hawaiian comments coming in about stolen land, just use fist, etc...

Everyone should be held accountable.   Including biden and Hillary.

So .... which is it?  "Everyone should be held accountable", or it's okay because Biden and Clinton "have not not had charges filed?"

You can't have it both ways -- not with all the evidence on the record against both of them.

I believe in due process, but so far the only process seems to be "turn a blind eye for democrats -- all others get crucified."

try add a bit of baking soda
that helps a lot with the burning sensation (heads)

I think that was part of the hack recipe, too.  Still, store bought seems to work and feel better.

does that navage work good?

i get samples of the neilmed products at my office almost every month

i've had some success with these
https://www.amazon.com/XLEAR-Homeopathic-Saline-Nasal-Capsicum/dp/B01L0EZCVG/
https://www.amazon.com/XLEAR-Homeopathic-Saline-Nasal-Capsicum/dp/B01L0EZCVG/

Navage works great.  I use the Navage brand saline pods.  There are hacks online to make your own pods out of empties, but it seems to not work as well and is prone to causing discomfort if the water-salt ratio isn't perfect in my experience.

You need to make sure the water temp is within a few degrees of 90F +/-., but below 95F

Most common issue I see is not taking time to mix the saline with the water well enough.  I use filtered tap water.  It burns if you leave out the saline or don't mix thoroughly similar to inhaling water in the shower..

You'll know it's working when you see what winds up in the collection "tank".   :shake:

flonase is not a symptomatic treatment
it reduces your body's reaction to allergens over time...

Right.

But what i need is immediate relief from the symptoms.

It's the symptoms like post nasal drip and congestion that irritates my sinus passageways and throat causing the coughing.

A prophylactic doesn't seem as effective as a symptom reliever in my case.  Maybe if I had more evidence as to the cause, I'd be able to find a more effective preventative.

General Discussion / Re: Is Mike Glover screwed?
« on: May 13, 2024, 02:05:12 PM »
He was arrested for domestic violence.  His gf's statement in the police report sounds sketchy.  I mean, who locks the door when giving their child a bath?  But Mike messed up to by having a friend contact her during the no contact order. And did so by telling his friend this over the jail phone (all calls are recorded).

He already had to surrender all his guns and ammo for violating the no contact order.  But if found guilty of DV, then he could lose his 2A right.  I'm sure he will fight this to the end due to him losing his 2A right.  As in no plea deal.

It will be interesting to see how this will play out.  There are 2 sides to every story.  Except his violation of the no contact order.

He has been outspoke on the feds ever since his preppers group was designated a domestic terrorist org.  His vids also mention other sketchy things the feds do and stuff overseas.  I wonder if this was their way to silence him.  Kicking in his door would be very dangerous, so would pulling him over in his car.  So go thru the gf to slowly get him in a bad spot.

try not to use afrin for too long
look up "rhinitis medicamentosa"...

Define "too long."  The Wiki article states longer than 5-7 days.

Is the time limit different based on amount applied with each use?  Number of applications?  Prior sinus issues like sinusitis?

I always roll my eyes when being warned to do or not do something after reading "although evidence has been contradictory."

Everyone I know who used Afrin on a regular but as-needed basis already knows when they are using it too often and taper off, opting for sinus cleaning devices like neti pots, Navage and humidifiers with decongestant additives.  I also take an antihistamine to ward off allergy symptoms.  That helps reduce the need for sprays.

As a matter of fact, one of the reasons the doctor prescribed Flonase was to avoid the Afrin issues, but I imagine the spray's price keeps users from using it with the same frequency as Afrin.

Correction:  I said Prilosec before -- the first thing to come to mind.
I meant Flonase.  Prilosec is an acid reducer,
A real doctor would have caught that error.

National Cough Drop Day
--I notice a lot of neighbors and myself have been coughing lately. Pollen allergy?--

and "National Top Gun Day"

I'd been going through periodic bouts of coughing that lingers for a month or so -- then nothing for 2-3 months.

Doctor said my sinuses showed irritation and prescribed very expensive sinus relief OTC remedy:  Flonase.

I tried it, but it didn't last anywhere near what the product claims.  So i went back to what i know works:  Afrin.

I also bought a sinus irrigation device:  Navage.

Together, I use them to keep my sinuses clear.  No more coughing fits, which is a great thing in the age of COVID.

I don't know if its allergies or just the weather, but something changes from season to season that causes my sinuses to become closed up, dried out and irritated.

What is Mother's day?

Quote
Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient
Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses
Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the
early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”

Once a major tradition in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe, this celebration
fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent and was originally seen as a time when the faithful
would return to their “mother church”—the main church in the vicinity of their home—
for a special service.

Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and
children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation.
This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American
Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.
Quote
The origins of Mother’s Day as celebrated in the United States date back to the
19th century. In the years before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia
helped start “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs" to teach local women how to properly care
for their children.

These clubs later became a unifying force in a region of the country still divided
over the Civil War. In 1868 Jarvis organized “Mothers’ Friendship Day,” at which
mothers gathered with former Union and Confederate soldiers to promote reconciliation.

Another precursor to Mother’s Day came from the abolitionist and suffragette
Julia Ward Howe. In 1870 Howe wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation,” a call to
action that asked mothers to unite in promoting world peace. In 1873 Howe
campaigned for a “Mother’s Peace Day” to be celebrated every June 2.

Other early Mother’s Day pioneers include Juliet Calhoun Blakely, a temperance
activist who inspired a local Mother’s Day in Albion, Michigan, in the 1870s.
The duo of Mary Towles Sasseen and Frank Hering, meanwhile, both worked
to organize a Mothers’ Day in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some have
even called Hering “the father of Mothers’ Day.”
Quote
Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood that is observed in different forms
throughout the world. In the United States, Mother’s Day 2024 falls on Sunday,
May 12. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in
1908 and became an official U.S. holiday in 1914.

Jarvis would later denounce the holiday’s commercialization and spent the latter
part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar.

While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day traditionally involves presenting
moms with flowers, cards and other gifts.

i've not seen a list of the classifications found at Mara Lago.

i know that many, many things, especially messages or memos with schedules and other sensitive pieces of information are classified CONFIDENTIAL.  Much of that information is perishable.  Once the dates pass, the information no longer has any value and is routinely downgraded automatically due to it becoming obsolete.

I think anyone who believes the classified documents case is strong and hasn't seen what kind of information or classification levels are involved is just hoping.

There could be one TS document or dozens.  We don't know.  Of the 183 documents the FBI said were MARKED classified may only be a dozen actually still classified at some high level.  Markings do not make a document classified.  The contents and authorities governing the information's classifications do that.

biden's team packed and shipped the boxes on their own, not on the trump team's request
the covers labeled "top secret" were placed on the files and photographed, which is not correct protocol
some of the files that had the covers applied were not top secret
the files were not logged correctly and placed in the correct boxes in the correct order
there's more that i'm forgetting
but jaco's opinion that the trial being held in FL had something to do with the indefinite hold is probably right  ::) ???

When SCOTUS issues its ruling on the question of presidential immunity, which should be by June or July, this case will go from "strongest case" to "Meh."

The CinC always has final discretion over classified material. Information is not like individual rights.  Rights may be endowed by the creator, but classified information and other materials require a classification authority -- i.e. it isn't classified just because it was created.  Integral to that authority is an understanding that the information may one day be compromised.  That's termed a "spillage" if it happens on the internet.

If a person allows unauthorized disclosure, that's one level of compromise.  If the information or material is given to an unauthorized recipient, that's a bit worse -- called unauthorized dissemination.  Once a compromise occurs, there's an analysis required to asses the level of damage and what mitigating options are available.  communication codes may be changed, locks reprogrammed, access cards changed out, etc.  I've seen where computer code needed to be rewrittem and rolled out to operational units because system capabilities and limitations were compromised.

The interesting part of all these "OMG!  So-and-so had classified info at their house!" is that the actual fact that the information was possibly compromised is in and of itself classified.  We don't want people to pick up the paper and find out that sensitive information is now floating around unprotected.  We also don't want people to know whatever it related to might now be vulnerable.  Having all these reports of classified leaks seems to contradict SOP.

Hillary outsourced her server support to a private commercial firm.  They were not authorized to process or store classified, nor did anyone managing the server have an appropriate security clearance.  If anyone allowed classified to be compromised, it was Hildabeast.  They even found copies of all the messages from her server, including the infamous 32,000 deleted  files, on Anthony Wiener's unclassified laptop.

How many other copies were there floating around?
