WDSU reported: JPSO sources say that a man entered the gun outlet with a loaded gun unholstered.

Sources say that the man got into an argument with a clerk who told him he should not have a loaded gun until he got inside the range.

According to JPSO sources, shots were fired during the argument when at least two customers on the range engaged the man.

The man was shot, but also fired back at the two customers who were also injured.

What fire?

This happened at a gun range.  The Liberal Leftist Progressive Socialist Anti-2A gun grabbers are probably upset that more people weren't killed, because the people there all like guns and deserve to die.

Reminds me of the laughs I got at my local gun shop when I went in with bandana face mask and hat.
Told them there was a time when going into a gun store like that could get you shot.

OGC staff told me the story of a guy that came in with a loaded magazine.  He asked to see a gun, then tried to load it.  Can't remember if the mag was the wrong one and didn't fit, or if he just wasn't sure how to operate it to chamber a round.  Either way, they got to him and took it away before he had the chance to correct his mistake.

Luckily, he didn't ask to see a revolver!

There are always crazy people doing crazy things.  Now with masks everywhere, the bad guys can get away with murder (literally and figuratively) even in plain sight of witnesses and cameras.  Not everyone has the ability to run facial recognition through a mask -- which isn't foolproof to start with.

That story normally came up whenever a customer asked about why the staff wears handguns at work.

This is senseless whether it started as an argument over a loaded firearm or whether the shooter had previous issues with the clerk or gun shop.  A reminder to keep cool and not so eager to use guns. Maybe walk away to de-escalate.  Easier said than done... but RIP to the victims.

I carried a gun for years in WA state. If you can WALK away, you do so.
If you cannot walk away,  you do what is needed to eliminate the threat.

De-escalation is always the better option, but ignoring the safety violation of a person walking toward the range carrying a loaded firearm can't be the answer.

The employees have a responsibility to keep everyone at their business safe.  If someone isn't following safety rules, they need to be asked to comply or leave.  If the situation escalates, they need to be prepared.

Sometimes you can't reason with someone who thinks they can ignore a business' rules and get away with it.

This guy won't be doing that again -- ever.  Sorry for the others injured and killed.  I think the employees AND customers who engaged the rule-breaker were very brave and deserve credit for doing more than running or ducking for cover.

We don't know if his intent was to just go practice and leave, or if he intended to do harm from the outset.  His failure to follow the rules designed for the safety of everyone there seems to be the flashpoint.  I'd focus on what that guy did wrong -- and why --  before I looked at anything the employees did in response.

I think he was looking to start something. Who walks into a gun store/range with gun in handgun in hand.  At min, flimsy holster on hip.

We don't know the full story yet or is there any vid released.  So maybe the clerk did try to de-escalate and it didn't work. Gotta wait till vid is released.

Yes.  I have a feeling the guy had some screws loose.

The one lesson all ranges and gun shops need to take away from this:  If you have to fire in this situation, and the guy has his gun in his hand ready to shoot, plan on taking a head shot.  The guy had time after being shot to hit 2 more people from what I read.  Might be wrong.  But, when stopping the threat, you need to remember "two to the chest, then one to the head."  If the threat isn't incapacitated with the first two shots, go for the "off" switch.  Sounds like this was extremely close quarters, so missing him wasn't a big concern.

We practiced that at Front Sight.  Sometimes a shot into the heart lets the bad guy function for anywhere between 5-10 seconds to a minute, especially if he's amped up on some chemical substance.

I don't shoot to kill.  I shoot to LIVE.

More information on the attack and video of the incident

Shooter had a CCW and had just minor infractions.   No motive yet.  Maybe just snapped all of a sudden or gun store employees escalated something?

Nothing in the video or witness statements showed an altercation.  Not even an argument.  The guy had the pistol stuck down his waistband, not sure if he had a holster.  The pistol had an extended mag -- you can easily see it in the video.  When an employee saw the mag, he assumed it might be loaded and asked the guy if it was loaded.  He said no.  Then the employ said fine ... go out side to the clearing bin and clear it.  And the guy went outside.  No arguing or anything.  But, that's when he fired a round in the air as he stood in the open doorway.  Then he turned and fired into the woman he killed as she approached the door to leave.

This might have been a situation where he was just pissed at the world that day.  Everyone he talked to told him what to do, what he can't do, and what he did wrong.  Maybe the employee telling him he can't carry a loaded gun there was the last straw?  I don't think anyone can tell us -- ever.  Unless he left a note that's yet to be found, his actions have no rationale.

The second person he killed he shot in the back as the employee was crouched attempting to retrieve a firearm.  That begs the question why the employees weren't wearing sidearms 100% of the time.  When a bad guy starts shooting, you don't want to have to run to a lockbox or safe to get your gun if you can help it.

The Sheriff corrected his earlier account.  Originally he told the press customers had engaged the shooter.  In fact, only employees drew weapons.

I'm sure more details and corrections will come out.
