Reloading / Re: Dillon super swage not working right
« on: March 21, 2021, 08:20:36 PM »
I use the Dillon SS600 a lot.  When you swage a pocket, the visible crimp ring doesn't disappear as the tapered swaging rod only pushes the top edge of the primer pocket out a little.  I prime on a reloading press and I can easily feel when I need to swage a pocket by the amount of resistance from the primer being seated.  Sometimes you don't need to swage, other times you do - even with brass from the same lot.  Even when swaging, I feel how much resistance I get when moving the handle - I try to swage just a little so that the pocket stays tight.

The best way to figure that out is to put a hygrometer in the can and open it a few days late to see what the reading is.  You should be able to get the moisture level below 25% in a sealed ammo can.

Firearms and Accessories / Re: Safes: Digital vs. Mechanical (reboot)

American Security safe model 6032.  I bought it used about 15 years ago.  Not sure of the model of the LaGard lock - I replaced the lock some years ago after the electronic lock started to go bad.  I think I paid about $40.

I replaced my digital lock with a dial lock.  Instead of the S&G 6730 I was able to find a similar La Gard lock on eBay for less.  Installation process is the same and not difficult for the average mechanically inclined person.

The garage is not ideal, but I've had powder stored in a garage for years and it still works fine.  I've had one metal can of IMR powder go bad on me and that can was already opened and given to me 30 years ago.

Tried some roast pork from Nam Fong on Maunakea St. - pretty good.  Nice and juicy, salted just right but the skin was not quite as crispy as Roast Duck Kitchen.  I would buy again.

There are no-gunsmith options for mounting a scout scope on the M1.  The mount replaces the rear hand guard.  These work very well.

Accuracy - these are WWII service guns that typically shoot 2-5 MOA with M2 ball ammo.  They'll often shoot noticeably better with M72 Match or hand loads.  You can match condition an M1, but it takes a lot of work and experience.  Best to do the simple stuff - make sure the action fits tightly into the stock, the op rod is not binding, gas cylinder not loose, rear sight aperture doesn't wobble, etc.  If your eyes are still good, you can replace the sights with NM sights (hooded rear and thinner front blade).

I like canned peas and canned corn. But I don't buy it because I just don't think about it when shopping.

This brings up a memory of growing up on Maui.
October was time for the Maui County Fair. My mom would work in the Mormon church booth making fried chicken plates.
It was a very simple plate with fresh fried chicken and rice with namasu on the side.

Anybody been to the fair in recent years?
Curious to know if the church still does that.

I used to like their Pronto Pups.  I remember the fair used to to also have demolition derby - can you imagine having an event like that today in Hawaii?  Good times.

I have 50 Lake City once-fired.  $10
You'll need to swage the primer pockets.  If you don't have a swager I can do it for you.

How much brass are you looking for?

Biden can't do much without controlling the senate.  Restricting arm braces, 80% lowers, eliminating CCW in national parks, etc.

But he could restrict imports of firearms and ammunition.  Should start getting those if you're interested in any.

During the nobama administration we had a hui to bring in a pallet of ammo.  A lot of it was Russian 7N6 which would have been about 14¢ a round shipped.  While we were putting the order together Barry banned 7N6 as 'armor piercing' and the supply evaporated overnight.

Tried a few places this week being discussed here.  Ordered eggs over easy.
Liliha Bakery - original location.
Ordered take out at the counter.  Good service, ready in about 10 minutes.  Gravy pretty good - it had that slight char that I like, but it had a distinct 'propane taste'.  Eggs done perfectly.

Big City Diner - Aiea
Ordered take out by phone.  Showed up on time, had to wait 10 minutes just to talk to someone and then another 5 minutes to get my order.  Gravy so-so, patty pretty good, eggs slightly over done.  Generous amount of gravy and onions.

Bottom line - I would not order these again.

I've used them in a 308 bolt gun and didn't notice any difference from regular LR primers.
