Political Discussion / Re: The COVID Cult
« on: Today at 12:05:08 AM »
Tax payers funded as much as 10 million dollars to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): masks, gowns, face shields, cleaning supplies, etc.

The people responsible for storing the products left all those pallets of boxes out in the rain in October.  Most of it is now ruined.

This is another example of why government should never be given more money until they learn to manage the money and things they already get and stop wasting it.

So much for taking the pandemic seriously!!  How many people may be infected, hospitalized or even die from the COVID virus because they don't have enough PPE to replace the gear they go through on a daily basis?

Since when does a POTUS pre-record a MLK day speach, one week in advance.

I mean certain stuff might be ok, but a simple one like this is not acceptable.

It's okay.  Biden doesn't know what day of the week it is, let alone what day of the month -- or even which month!

He reads from the teleprompter, then goes back to his room to watch Baywatch.  Reminds him of his days as a life guard, letting the little kids at the pool rub the hairs on his legs ....

In other words if the server side was upgraded and was not backwards compatible then someone had/has their head up their ass?

Many times the hosting site upgrades products like Apache webserver, PHP scripting interpreter, or MySql or MariaDB on their servers.  These programs affect all the sites hosted on the server.

Even though they send out notices to test your apps to be ready for the changes, many people ignore it until after the site stops working.

I don't know if that happened here, but it does happen often.

Another common thing is sites get migrated to new servers.  Sometimes permissions are changed on files, or restores don't run completely.

Could be any of a number of things.

Was he? I have not been up to date here. I had been trying to access this site for days until I though to try Tapatalk. WTF.

Serious question, is there another web forum we can use as an alternative to this one? Like, years ago I remember the high road. Not sure it is still active. Not been on for ages. I don’t suppose we should use a Reddit section for Hawaii gun talk. Gonna be crazy with tons of BS from communists I mean liberals.

You guys can read this post from me right? Haven’t used this app for years either.

Message received.

I've thought about standing up another server, but didn't want to be viewed as competing with the "official" HDF forum.

Could be pro-2Aers who don't like some of the comments, such as in the vaccine, election stealing/investigations, electric vehicles, and a ton of other non-2A topics.

Maybe Biden had us taken down because his biggest supporter here was kicked off?

Only "do!"

Still busted

Affirmative.

Maybe a Maintenance page could be displayed acknowledging the site is offline with a "Get Well" estimate.

At the very least, advise users to use TapaTalk instead of a web browser until it's fixed.

On a browser (tried both Brave and Firefox), the categories list appears, but can't go to any other pages:  Recent Posts, Off Tpoic, General Discussion, etc.

I get a 500 error code in Brave.  FF is just a blank page.

Political Discussion / Re: Best Movie Music

One of my favorite movies stars Tim Roth as "Novecento" (Italian for "Nineteen Hundred").  The movie title is The Legend of 1900.

He was born on a passenger ship that made the crossing between the US and Europe, mainly bringing immigrants to America.

He was left on the ocean liner and found by one of the ship's engine room crew, Danny, and he decided to keep him and raise him.

Danny named him Danny Boodman T. D. Lemon 1900 (a combination of his own name, an advertisement found on the box Danny found the baby in, and the year he was born).  They called him "1900" for short.

He was born, raised and learned everything he knew aboard that same ship, never setting foot on dry land.  He taught himself at a young age to play the piano, and became a member of the ship's band.

The story centers around 1900's music, and how he "sees" it -- never playing the same song the same way twice.

It's a long movie, and sometimes the switching back and forth between the present and past gets confusing at first, but it's not that distracting.

It's another movie about the music and the musicians:  1900 and his trumpet-player friend telling the story.

If you've never seen it, it's worth the time -- if only for the piano duel between 1900 and the Jazz pianist, Jelly Roll Morton (Clarence Williams III).

Heart when they opened up for Peter Frampton in 1978. They brought the house down and Frampton got booed! It was following year of his Frampton Comes Live album.

What movie was that?

"Career Criminal?"

Looks like he needs to consider a career change if a woman can chase him down, beat him up, and hold him until the Cops arrive.

Sometimes, the best soundtracks are in movies which are ABOUT the music:

La Bamba
The Buddy Holly Story
That Thing You Do
Bohemian Rhapsody
Walk the Line
The Blues Brothers

Other movies are just not the same without the music that drives it:

Halloween
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Star Wars
The Godfather
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Superman
Rocky
Jaws
Back to the Future

Then there are the musicals, some with original songs, and others that incorporate already popular songs:

Moulin Rouge
The Wedding Singer
All That Jazz (Roy Scheider)
Chicago
The Music Man
The Wizard of Oz
The Sound of Music
Singin' in the Rain
Grease
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

And, of course, there are the animated movies:

Frozen
The Little Mermaid
Moana
The Lion King
The Nightmare Before Christmas

Any additions, subtractions, other categories?

Thoughts and opinions on what you think are best or worst in these lists?

Someone mentioned recently that music is not a big part of his life.  I think whether it's movies, TV, commercials, radio ads, or celebratory events, music is what makes it special, and what will bring back memories when a song we hear reminds us of them.

I think music is a big part of our lives whether or not we appreciate it.

Larry Lawton said in a YT vid that you can tell when there's going to be a fight. Everyone is wearing shoes.  This comment gave me a chuckle as I thought about that.

I guess he's never seen Billy Jack getting ready to fight...
