Legal and Activism / Re: Firearms at home / Carrying at home
« on: February 15, 2016, 08:34:05 PM »
It is legal to carry a firearm you own on your own property.  If you are renting a home, your landlord might have a problem with you carrying a gun in plain view.  I normally carry my Glock 19 around at home on a belt holster, but I live on a 3 acre property and you cannot see any neighboring houses. Even so, I keep my Tshirt covering the gun.  I also shoot regularly on my property and my neighbors are cool with that.  Closest neighbor is about a 100 yards away on one side, 1/4 mile on the other and forest reserve in the back.  If you do decide to carry at home, I would keep the weapon concealed.  No sense causing unnecessary problems for yourself.

I honestly believe anarchy will be the result of any government attempt to confiscate our guns.  Maybe not in Hawaii, but certainly in many parts of the CONUS.  Think of all the militants in Michigan and the states around there.  The deep South is another area.  If you were LEO ordered to go confiscate guns, would you want to go walking in hill billy country in Tennessee and Kentucky etc trying to take guns?

I live in the Puna District of the Big Island and there are a lot of areas here that cops won't go alone and I don't fault them.  Too many armed crazies around but nothing even close to what one would encounter in some areas of the mainland .

I got my NV permit mailed to me only 17 days after submitting the paperwork at the Sheriff's Office in Pahrump.  I received the UT and AZ permits in about 30 days after mailing in the application.  I heard that Clark County takes 60 or more days to process the permit.  If I remember correctly, the application has to be submitted in the same county that you took the CCW class in.
I carry a Glock 19 with Trijicon sights in a TactiPac Fusion holster whenever I am in Nevada.  At home in Puna area of the Big Island, I normally just open carry on a belt holster, but 15% of the time conceal carry just to practice drawing from concealment throughout the day.  If my wife was willing, I would move to Nevada.

Everyone should just walk around in the nude.

That would definitely require some thought as to carrying a concealed weapon.  Maybe a NAA pistol in a in butt holster?

Well, the GOP and some others are already saying the replacement for Scalia should be done by the next president and they will oppose anyone selected by Obama.  Of course Obama would like nothing more than to appoint someone that will help him in his quest to circumvent our existing laws.  Saw a list of his 10 possible replacements and Kamala Harris was one of them.  You can kiss gun rights goodbye if she ever got confirmed.

Good review.  Looking forward to my next trip there in June.  As they build those additional ranges, I hope they also add restrooms.  As it is, it can be a pretty long walk to the only restroom they have there.

I had ATT for over 10 years and changed to Verizon 8 months ago.  There coverage is no better than ATT and you cannot be on call and the Internet at the same time.  My wife stayed with ATT and I am waiting for the next promotion to go back to ATT.

I believe that whoever buys a handgun should be well trained in its proper use, including lots of dry fire and drawing practice.

A bit of a side track here, but what would one need in order to have their own private property range?
Ag land?
So many acres

I have 50 yard handgun range in my backyard, and shoot quite often.  I live on the Big Island in a very gun friendly neighborhood.  My property is 3 acres, 266 ft on the road side and  goes back 490 ft on one side and 465 ft on the other. The state forest reserve is behind me.  My closest neighbor is at least 300 ft away on one side and about a 1/4 mile on the other.  I often hear gunshots coming from the neighboring properties and since I hear about 50 or more shots, I know they are not shooting wild pigs, so I would imagine they must have some kind of range set up too.  Living is a sparsely populated subdivision certainly does help. My subdivision is 12.5 sq miles with less than 600 people.  As a comparison, all of Kailua, including the marsh, is only 10.6 sq miles.  Even so, as a courtesy to neighbors I generally will shoot no more than 50 rounds and never on the weekends or holidays.

Just read something real scary.  During a recent interview Hillary said she would strongly consider nominating Barack Obama to fill the next SCOTUS opening.

The stupidity of some people thinking banning knives will save lives is beyond me.  Did that idiot turn in ALL her knives including ALL her kitchen knives?  I doubt it.

Like buying from some EBay sellers and they want to charge double because you live in Hawaii and the item fits in a flat rate box.  Or those that show they ship to U.S., and after you win the auction and give them your address, they reply "we don't ship to foreign countries".

Wishful thinking good sir. We couldn't get more than a dozen folks to rally last week at the Capitol for the opening of the legislature.

We had a at least 12 folks there mostly the entire time and a few more came and went as their lives permitted there wasn't more that 20 total.

Big difference between just sending in a check for $50 vs having to go down somewhere and stay for several hours.  I live on the BI and won't spend $200 for airfare, plus car rental etc to go to a rally, but I could certainly mail a $50 check for a class action suit.  Probably same for a lot of other gun owners who live on another island or have to work when the event is going on.  Plus mandatory gun insurance is going to cost a lot more than $50 plus the permitting and re-permitting/registration charges the idiots of this bill want to charge.  Gun shops would also have a big stake in this as well and support a class action suit.

If that law passed, I wouldn't buy insurance.  I would wait until the state brought charges against me and then I would go see an attorney to contest it.  Maybe all gun owners could file a class action suit.  If all gun owners would throw in just $50 we could afford to tie this up in court for a long time as well as hire a top notch pro 2A attorney.  I personally don't think this stupid law will pass.

Would like to join you, but my next trip to FS won't be till early June.
In certain gun free zones on the mainland where I have ccw permit, I carry anyway.  Starbucks, some restaurants,  theaters etc.  Not at government places.  If SHTF happened in a gun free zone, I would not try and stop the shooter unless me or my family was going to be attacked.  I would just try to get to safety and not let anyone know I had a gun.  No sense getting into legal trouble trying to be a good guy when they have a law against it.
