« on: November 20, 2014, 07:06:11 AM »

If not does anyone know where I can harvest some strawberry guava?(Same size) Or if anyone has 2x4s laying around they don't want Ill be glad to take them off your hands.  If anyone has or knows where to get let me know.  Looking for cheaper/free types.
Thanks for everyones help.

City Mill has 6 ft bamboo rods cheap in the lumber section.
I think, therefore I am armed.

4" like a big pipe.

Actually anything bigger then 2" should hopefully be strong enough.

Sorry I just reread your email and realized my mistake. The bamboo rods at City Mill is less than 2" diameter.. Diameter more like 1" something or less.

Going try make a chicken coup at my parents place.  Gonna use it as posts. Wrap it with orange or black construction fencing.
Yeah just actually looked at a tape measure and 4" is kinda big.  Smaller should be fine as long as they are ridged.
Didn't want to get small pieces like the type they use for fishing poles that's why I put 4"

Any size should be fine as long as they are sturdy/ridged.

Check out Ho'oulu Aina in the back of Kalihi past the wood bridge. They have a lot of bamboo and different varieties.

I think it depends on when it was harvested and how it was stored.  Too green and it splits when it dries. Too old and it gets old and dried up and saggy.  Ive been told you harvest when its changing color from green to brown, only the tip is still green.

I used the ones from City Mill as 5-ft curtain rods...  There is a slight bend towards the middle but I just reinforce it with a curtain hanger in the middle.   Yeah, if you need them 6-ft, then the ones at City Mill might not be sturdy enough.  Worth a look if you're in the area.  They were cheap like $3 or $5 a piece (forgot).
