People with mental issues or stupidity are being catered to.

I read that it was a joke, which is why I asked "are you insinuating..."

Yanking your chain while taking an opportunity to participate in Pau Hana story time!

Are you insinuating high ranking officers don't do PT?

i lived on-base in Oklahoma in formerly designated field grade officer housing.  i lived one block from my AWACS Squadron Commander (O-6).  i was 2 blocks from the Air Logistics Center Commander, a Brigadier General (O-7).

One day I'm doing a 5:30AM run to prepare for my upcoming annual 1.5 mile test.  This old geezer in a floppy brim hat ran toward me and said good morning as we passed.  I thought he must be a retiree staying at the VOQ right next to where we met.

It wasn't until the second time I saw him running that I recognized him.  It was the general.  This is him after being promoted to Major General (O-8, 2 Stars):

One reason you don't see O-6 and up at PT is they either have exclusive workout facilities, or they exercise early in the morning before most people are awake and crowding the gym.  They usually have more control over their schedules, so they can pick times when fewer people are doing PT.

The O-6 i mentioned played racquetball where I played during lunch.  He had a standing reservation daily where the rest of us had to start dialing the phones at exactly 2PM to snag a reservation the next day.  He normally played at 10am if I recall -- just before the lunch crowd showed up.

:geekdanc:

It's a joke.  Hence the "no one questions whether the O6 doesn't do PT".  I know there are some that still do it and even do it with their soldiers.

Downtown/Chinatown here isn't any diff. I work there now and see human shit on the sidewalk at least once a week since I began working there.  Excluding maybe 2 weeks.  I find it odd that someone would shit in the middle of the sidewalk and not in a corner or next to a tree.  Kakaako is like once every few weeks, theres shit on the sidewalk.

They pressure wash Fort Street Mall at least once a week due to this as well.

How inconsiderate of those people

Did anyone ask the former Nuclear Waste director guy? The one who was stealing luggage from the airports?

If the Navy training is anything close to Air Force training, then only the enlisted are required to qualify on the M4/M16 platform.  Officers only qualify using a pistol (in my case, revolver -- 1980s).

The exception was if the officer was in a job that required rifle proficiency, such as MP/SP.

Air Force and Navy are not normally on the front lines, so officers aren't usually carrying long guns.

I have a feeling this plays into the commander's lack of familiarity with the weapon.

Many people think that all members of the military are the SF/SFDDS they see on TV and movies.  There are many MOS's that aren't required to shoot, which means they aren't familiar or very proficient with a weapon after leaving basic.  Same goes with being in physical shape and other stuff.  Which is why I replied the way I did to EEF.  In this case, the commander is the leader and shouldn't be handling a weapon at all, due to him leading.  Jocko Wilink (ret SEAL) has a story (O4), if he's holding security at a corner, within seconds, one of his guys will take over so he can do leadership stuff.  The point is that his guys know he's the leader and shouldn't be holding security.

Another running joke is: How often do you see an O6 doing PT?  No one questions him about it either.  WO's are on a diff level though.

This brings me to a speculation that this ships captain isn't well liked.  Because no one corrected him prior to the photo. "Screw him, let him look stupid".

Take them out to the shooting range.  Do a tour of these areas at 1am with each member individually.  Bring in a whole bunch of homeless and addicts to the neighborhood board meeting.

Take these sheltered people to Chinatown at anytime of the day.

General Discussion / Re: When guns are banned

What he's arguing is that a mass casualty event can be more effectively executed with a firearm than a knife.  Since mass casualty events usually involve panic, people running away from the threat and nobody trying to stop the threat, the effectiveness of the firearm is more a function proper application of the right tool for the circumstances.

But to kill 4 college kids asleep in the same house, a quiet knife used on a stationary/sleeping victim is a much better choice.

He's comparing different tools with one being better suited for one application versus a different application.  Had the killer used a firearm on those sleeping students, the sound would have caused some to flee or hide and call for help.  Others hearing the sound could also come to their aid.

The only way his statement is true is if we ignore reality and the choices people make when planning a mass killing.

The worst mass murder events in recent US history used no guns at all:  9-11 and the OKC bombing.

Yeah, I know this. I was just messing with him.

The hypocrisy is how often he opines on topics he has zero knowledge of or experience with.

But everyone else needs to shut up unless they are part of the group being criticized.

Or maybe he uses confirmation bias. Since he was never told how things need to be done at the HPD firearms window like many have that were incorrect.  I mean, does EEF have to wait in line like everyone else?

Yeah.  The second-by-second breakdown from just watching a security camera video is amazing.

i guess if he can spot a photoshopped image that nobody else has, then he's able to glean all of those observations from a single camera angle and no audio.

Lip read too.

Not on COD

Bruh, don't get me started on COD. SBMM/EOMM fucked up the game.

When you post a serious consideration of the issue we can discuss it further.

Someone doesn't like the game.

Majority of Palestinians would slit an American's throat any day of the week and twice on Sunday if given the chance.

They teach their children in schools to hate Americans.  The hate starts very young.

The olive branch needs to be extended by both sides.  In my opinion the Palestinians don't even know where their olive branch is.  Or even what's it for.

The college students (and I use the term loosely, student implies intelligence) like to be involved in the current "in" trend.

Never mind that they have no idea as to what the real issue is.  Just that it is popular amongst the social media crowd.

THese morons are being mad just to find somethign to be mad at.  It's the hot topic currently.  They're never happy with their lives, so need to lash out at any given topic.

I don't have to prove a negative.

The fact you think that's a realistic and fair comparison for your failure to prove the opposite is not surprising.

Maybe the entire rifle was photoshopped and the commander was holding a broom to see if the wood is straight.  See, I can make stuff up too. It's plausible as no denial of holding a broom was given.
16
If you want to believe that it is more likely this commander is an idiot who doesn't know how scopes work than the more likely scenario that someone modified the photo then be my guest.

You've obviously never seen  commanders type have to qual for their weapons.

You are absolutely right but thats not the question I was addressing. The question is gun vs knife and acting as if the gun is not more effective than the knife.

Unknown unless you have a time machine.  Guns jam, knives don't. There's plenty of vids where a gun jams in illegal activity and in self defense. #nuance #objective
18
You attributed something to cops and then listed things that you do saying it applies to cops so.....

There's vids of this happening. Not only locally, but nationwide as well.  Plus many who have personal XP, including myself when I questioned what was told by HPD at the window about the law.  Notice how he didn't say applies to all cops. So for whataboutism, 2 or more is cop(s).

I think that without knowing what was said it would be hard to say it was a crime or a justified presentation. He didn't look scared and the other customers seemed oblivious but who knows, maybe the guy in the high vis shirt whispered a threat? I think it is really going to rely on what the witnesses heard otherwise it seems a he said she said situation.

The guy in the high vis shirt's comment that he would have body slammed the guy is of very little value in my opinion for two reasons.
1. If he didn't make the statement at the time it cannot be retroactively used to justify self defense. You have to judge a person's actions by the information they had at the time.
2. It is pretty standard male bravado to claim how he would have won the fight after it was avoided. I can't count the times I heard someone say "I would have licked that guy"

The way he handled the gun is disconcerting though. Not only did it look like he might have pointed the gun in the direction of other people present but there was also two individuals between him and the guy in the high vis shirt. If he did have to raise his gun and fire he could have shot one of them on accident. It looks like his finger was off the trigger at least.

Wow.

Maybe the cop wanted OT since he would have to appear to any hearings.  The more you arrest for DUI, the more who will get a hearing since many don't just plead guilty.  It's a numbers game since not all will get charged.

Precovid, there were about 3000 DUI arrest.  Now it's like 1500. What changed? Pretrial conferences were used instead, so the arresting cop doesn't have to show up multiple times while the lawyers figure stuff out.  Which means cases rarely get sent to trial (no need cop to testify).
