Preamble to the Bill Of Rights.

See the remarks about "preventing misconstruction or abuse" of the government's powers.

https://drexel.edu/ogcr/resources/constitution/amendments/preamble/

Most people don't realize that this powerful statement of concern about creeping government powers even exists.

Mixing it up dry in a ball mill (glass jar with a shaft on the lid plus marbles) works OK for experimental amounts, and it will go bang if it's confined.  But it just fIzzes when burned in the open.

"Corning" is the process of dampening the mixture so that the KNO3 dissolves slightly and thoroughly and intimately coats every tiny particle of charcoal and sulphur,  After it's dry, you can break it into suitable granules, and this "corned" powder is what goes FOOM in the open.

I leave the legalities to the law types and the knowledgeable BP  shooters.

I leave the problem of scaling up from the glass jar and marbles setup to the individual's engineering skills.

Do not use or have nearby any steel or iron tools or anything around when messing with BP.  Commercial powder MFRs had special bronze and brass implements where needed.  Also be Aware of static.

That personal liability thing has always bothered me.  In any action, there is always one member of the committee, group, or whatever, who initiates the discussion or proceeding on that action.

There are times I'd like to know precisely who that <vulgar term> was.

So I could write them a polite advisory letter regarding the level of their intellect and perhaps speculating on their ancestry.

Ccws have been issued in all counties. Honolulu (Oahu) was the last.

Idk abt islands though, like were any issued on molokai which falls under Maui county.

Woo-hoo ! <sarcasm>

Maui was the one that happened  to come to my attention,  But you should not need any permit whatsoever.

I know I need not quote the Second Amendment, but I will quote the reason for it... as well as the other nine Amendments forming the Bill of Rights (BOR),

Quote

 Congress of the United States
begun and held at the City of New-York, on
Wednesday the fourth of March, one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.
(Bolding and underlining mine)
https://drexel.edu/ogcr/resources/constitution/amendments/preamble/

Those Inventors of our country, in common with other writers of the time, liked to preface their concepts with the "reasons" for their words, that is, "preambles."  Therefore, we have the Preamble to the Constitution ("...in order to form a more perfect Union...") and ithe old "When in the course of human events..." which started it all.

Hence, this Preamble to the BOR spelled out "why."

And those words, as well as the main body of our Constitution, form the highest law of the land.

And don't you forget it.

Mahalo oe.

Just tryin; to push that pendulum back the other way.

Haven't been keeping close track of Hawaiian affairs, but one thing I noticed was that concealed carry permits have been issued on Maui.

My "extremist" view is that the government has no right to tell you whether or not you can carry concealed and if you want to carry a gun in your hat or your jock strap, it's none of their business how you "bear."

I've gone into this elsewhere, but my belief is the Inventors of our country knew what they were doing,. and even pre-Darwin's natural selection theory, recognized the notion that free keeping and bearing would result in the hotheads and ne'er-do-wells weeding themselves out.  Yes, a certain amount of inoocents would be harmed, but all in all, the numbers would ultimately be less than with tight restrictions on keeping and bearing.

Put it this way.  The Valentine's Day Massacre eliminated seven or eight crooks from the population without even the cost of a trial.  "Moral?"  "Hell, let the gangs fight it out among themselves until one kingpin emerges, then go after him for tax evasion."  (I'm reminding you of how they finally got Al Capone out of circulation.)

And Billy The Kid killed seven or eight people by the time he was 22.  His killing stopped at that point because he was shot to death.

Good old Darwin.  Knew what he was talking about, too.

In sum:  The benefits of strict observation of the Second Amendment far outweigh the so-called benefits of restricting that right.

I said it and I ain't takin' it back.

I linked to this site from there, just saying hello to anyone who made the trip and logged in.

This was in relation to the Tulsi Gabbard transformation à la the Second Amendment.

I sorta left 2ahawaii dot com because it became evident that my plaints and pleas for a strict reading of the Second Amendment were to no avail.

I am disappointed to see that the "line at the HPD" thread was STILL near the top of thread postings. Seems to me that's a clear infringement (oops!) restriction on the right to keep and bear arms.

Gee whiz, don't your government  leaders  AND JUDGES out there read English?

I don't know about the details of how it was found and it's kinda difficult to ask my uncle now. Since it was a deer gun found in the woods and nothing bad came back with the serial number I'm going to think happy thoughts.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, but couldn't help asking.  You never get a yes if you don't ask.  (Same thing with girls, too.)

Motion seconded on pictures.

Motion seconded on Zardoz pic and James Bond movies, except I wonder what gun he's holding?

Apart from all the furniture and color metaphors, I was curious about the S/N in terms of registering it in Hawaii, so that part of it has been answered.

But I was also curious about any other information on where it was found and whether it had a round or an empty in the chamber, or whatever.

Kind of hard to just "lose" something as big as a shotgun, so "what's up wid dat?"  Not impossible if it fell into deep snow or slid down a canyon or something like that, but that sure is curious.

Maybe it's just going to be a case of "if this old gun could talk," but the whole thing  kind of piqued my curiosity.

To me "furniture" is/are the bits and pieces like butt plates, barrel bands, patch boxes, etc. that are not wood but are not part of the actual firearm.

So I don't know what you were sanding when you say, "... but in my attempt to remove the mold stains from the furniture I sanded too much so the lines no longer match up."

Did you mean "remove the corrosion" from the metal furniture?

I was also wondering if you could find a serial number. and how the bore looked.

Great video, great fun !

Son2 was practicing flint knapping by working on a glass bottle bottom.  I never asked him how it all worked out, but he did mention he was going to get a "rocklock."  (Love that term.)

One of my constant wisecracks whenever another restriction of arms and components comes up is that maybe we'd all better learn how to knap flint.

The guy's a self-righteous jerk... not uncommon in progressive-thinking individuals.

However, this bit in the cited article stunned me:

Quote
Hawaii overwhelmingly supported Hillary Clinton during the Nov. 8 election, and historically has supported Democrats in local and national races. In fact, just six Republicans are in the 51-member House, and the 25-member Senate is GOP-free.

Sounds like a tyranny of the majority, to me.

Hopefully President-Elect Trump's successes in his term will draw some people toward conservative thinking and away from their short-sighted "gimme, gimme" attitudes.

"Of course the goal here, and around the country is to deny EVERYONE gun rights by making everyone a convicted Felon. Do a search on the number of convicted Felons in the US, and the number of convictions per year before you laugh,"

You mean somebody else noticed that besides me and Ayn Rand?

Another firearms "choke point" technique is the practice of declaring vast areas of land as "monuments" and "parks" and "primitive areas"  and the like.

"Sorry, I figured that was covered [in] basic public school education."

Are you kidding?  The way history is taught in today's schools?

America bad, nasty, evil. You little schoolchildren should feel guilty about America's power and carry that message with you always.  Bad America !

Most of what Bill Whittle said in the above video conforms to the accredited historical texts... some of  which were written by non-Americans.  He gets a wee bit ranty towards the end, but that's OK with me, since I am aware of the gross atrocities committed by the Japanese.

Somehow, I am reminded of Prime Minister Chamberlain's claims of  "Peace in our time" in 1938, a year prior to September of 1939.  You remember what happened then, don't you?

Her remarks are so typical of the wooly-headed attitudes of those who have never encountered genuine, hard-core evil and violence in the real world.  As I say, sometimes it takes a good mugging or a good tyranny to wake some peope up.

From what I understand* the concept was brought up by one of Yamamoto's aides in a planning session and Yamamoto sort of took it and ran with it.  Just from memory, and I don't feel like digging it up by chapter and page.

* Not sure where I got this from.  Perhaps Jablonski's "Airwar" series, or "Total War" by Calvoressi and Wint.  In either case, it was presented by known and accredited WWII historians.
