Title: Hawaii on target BUYER BEWARE!
Post by: Garuda on May 11, 2016, 07:46:46 AM
This is an announcement to warn all other 2ahawaii members to not do business with this company.

It's sad that a group in the firearms community would engage in deceptive business practices, but it is what is.

I gave lots cash and received a receipt on 3/31/16 for an ammo preorder that was supposed to be in by 4/12, with the second order arriving on 4/19.  I am one of 4 or 5 others that also did the same and have not received ammo nor a refund.

4/12 came and went.  I was told along with others that the "wrong," order came in.  Wrong calibres, aluminum cased instead of brass.  They said they had no idea when another order was coming in as that order had to be sent back.

4/19. That day came and went and that order was wrong too.  How an order can be so messed up in today's technological world when you have SKUs and a spreadsheet with email is beyond me.

A week or so ago I was told the ammo came in, and we could pick up.  A couple of hours later the pickup could not me done because the owner got held up by a customer.

So we try for Saturday morning.  "Oh, my partner put another lock on the storage facility and I can't get to it.  Partner is off island."

I called for a refund or to pick up ammo and was told some ammo came in.  Ok I'll pick up the next day.  Spoke with a worker there again a few hours later and was told the owner Darin, would call me back. No call yesterday.

I work in business. You buy product, you want to turn product in order to turn a profit, so you can buy more product and continue the cycle.  I have not been given a concrete date on when ammo would arrive.  I'm being given the run around on getting my refund.

To be honest, I would have appreciated an, "the order got screwed up, I don't know when it's coming in, you can choose to wait or get a refund."  That has not been given, and honestly at this point I know I'm being dicked around.

I post this to warn others about the POOR business practices of Hawaii on target.  I encourage others to not do business as their customer service is essentially nonexistent.

At this point I know my deposit is most likely being used to fund some other stuff interest fee.

I'm in the process of seeking legal action.

Anyone else in the same boat as me feel free to reply to this thread.

BOOM...

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You are right it is sad/shitty that you are being done like that, one thing is once stuff like this is done it's a small island and once your reputation or the rep of your company is damaged its hard to recover.

I have heard other rumblings of deals gone bad and people done wrong by HI on TGT and its proprietor besides you maybe they will chime in.

This is enough for me not to patronize their business or solicit their services.

Hopefully your $$$$ isn't funding HI on TGT's radio advertising campaign that forces me to change channels when it airs.

Best of luck with recovering your funds and or ammo.

Thanks Dustoff.  Pretty sure that's where our money went.

Second message left.  No call back yet.  They opened 45 minutes ago.

Clearly they don't give a rip about the customer.  No contact/apology/refund offered.  NOTHING to make it right, no urgency to close the sale.

i also ordered a few cases and havent received anything.
i messaged them once, 2 weeks ago and was told it was coming in the following week and that they got the wrong order shipped to them or something. ive been busy during the day for pickup so i havent bothered since then but i am getting wary.

Jay nick, I hope you get your stuff.

The owner just reached out to me and said will be getting a refund back this week. I'll keep everyone posted.

I am not a difficult customer I've ordered handguns from other vendors. They said 2 months. It took 4.  It wasn't a problem because they said straight up a little longer.

My beef with HI on tgt is the stories aren't straight. "We got the wrong order it's going to take much longer to come in. (3weeks go by) It's in. Oh you can pick up now. Oh I'm busy. Oh there's a lock on the storage.  Oh some of the ammo is in"

If it's in and it took over a month later you'd think they'd do everything they can to get orders delivered. I don't believe the ammo is in. Maybe it's sitting somewhere in another state.

I know when I'm getting stroked. Not worth it regardless of price.

If you dont mind can i ask how you paid ? If it was by card i would recommend contacting your card company they will be able to initiate an investigation and make sure you get your money back.

To those who have ordered but haven't received product or a call.

Keep in mind, I've been told 3 times in the last 10 days that some ammo came in.  Once or twice from the owner, and from another employee.

From a business standpoint, what is the advantage to having customers money and not delivering product if it is in fact in?  It doesn't make sense.  Clearly margins are tight on ammo.  The only way to make money is by volume.  Turn inventory as many times as possible per month.  If you don't, you can't free up funds to restock shelves, opportunity cost is lost, space is lost (it takes up space on the floor or worse, you pay for another lot to store it).

Has anyone dealt with any other shop that has said, "some ammo has come in, but doesn't tell you to come pick up?"  It don't add up. It's either "it's not in yet," or "it's here come and get it". I'm confused.   :-\

I ordered ammo as well and have been given the same excuses. If I was the owner I would be proactive in keeping my customers aware of the situation and shipment issues, instead of having the customer need to continue to call in and inquire as to what's going on when it's nearly a month past the original arrival date. It really seems like something fishy is going on here. I will not be ordering anything else from Hawaii on target regardless of the price and I will recommend that my friends do the same.

I've never done business with Hawaii on Target, and based on the reviews here, I doubt I ever will.

It appears they may be doing business on the model that they want you, the customer, to front the money first and then you get the product later. In other words, they want to use your money as the principal in order to run their business. If so, this business model is flawed.

Reason is new customer money is used to finance PAST operations. New customers who have prepaid will not get their stuff because now your new order is a drain on the company's resources as the company is trying to catch up on PAST orders.

I'm not saying this is their business model, but it sure sounds similar. It's better if a business uses their money to avoid having to use new customer funds.

Again, this is just a theory. Food for thought. That's all.

Don't think so.

After hearing about this, I may find another organization to get my pistol instructor cert from.

It's Friday. 415 message left. Prompt callback from Darren.

Told Monday I would maybe have money.

I was also asked to remove this post because it's making things difficult for them.

That is up to the mods of this site.  Once I receive refund, I will post, then never talk of HOT again.

I truly do not wish for this.  Rather I'd hope they would have corrected the issue before I took it here.

Nevertheless, we are now 45 days in since money was given, and 32 days since promise date of expected arrival.  If the story was "straight," and non-conflicting, I would never have posted and likely would wait until the end of May before coming on here.

I told them the other day that they have til the end of the month to either deliver the ammo or if not I'd like a refund in full, and for some reason I just got a paypal refund this morning for the 1 case that I put on my credit card. They said they will update me tomorrow about the rest of the order that I paid for in cash. I hope at least some of the cases come in. Glad they are issuing some refunds and staying in contact.. i find it weird how they only refunded the portion of the payment that is on the books though. Contesting a charge with credit card/paypal is much easier than trying to get the remaining cash payment back.

I will update tomorrow.

Seems like that is the same lie for every order.

Can't make it down to storage
Partner locked the gate
Partner off island
Wrong order came in
Shipping more ammo/powder, may take longer
Order stolen form storage
Order for stolen at the dock
Money missing from clubs

And the list goes on.....

Based on his Facebook posts he holds classes on the Silliheutte side of the rang. Maybe everyone should show up during his class and ask for their money back...

Hawaii On Target (DARIN HAITSUKA), listed ten's of thousands of rounds of mini mags for sale on gunbroker.com, collected payments, did not ship ammo and has not refunded money to most buyers. Many, many excuses, including his associate Dexter Chun was assaulted at warehouse in California, had broken bones and was badly beaten up, causing another delay. Gunbroker buyers are trashing HOT in feedback, using words like SCAM, RIPOFF and FRAUD (that was my word).  When things got hot, Darin went dark, no longer answering any emails or phone. Last email said to call Alex Kim @ HOT for refunds. Phone is never answered. Messages aren't returned.

Is he really an FFL, as indicated on gunbroker?

Since KHON2 has interviewed Darin before, as a firearms safety expert, I have contacted them to see if they would like to interview him again.

Truly amazing that he thinks he can do this and get away with it. If he would communicate his problems, I'm a pretty understanding guy. But when you have people's money and cut off communications, it looks like a planned ripoff.

He's got some serious problems. Hope he works them out. A KHON2 news story would almost certainly shut him down.

I'm pretty sure this would not happen.

By accounts I'm able to see, Darin, who was an acquaintance and previous instructor in the community, is no longer here and has passed on.  Out of respect, I would just encourage us not focus talk on an individual who is not able to come forward and defend themselves because they are dead.

Well I will tell you on his facebook is a few posts about him being dead with no follow on posts and a shit ton of people offering condolences and the like.  If someone has done that (faked a facebook death), they drop to a new low in my book.  Macsak has told me he has seen him since then so I will definitely believe him over all.

I would still encourage people to focus on the business practices and first hand information.

Is this current postings about being dead? Because he emailed me on 5/14/16. And even signed the bottom of the email with a lower case "darin". So I am pretty sure that isn't a standard default signature.

Come on now folks....  Lets act like adults.  Don't jump to conclusions or over speculate.

Maybe all of those who have outstanding ammo or powder should get each others info and plan out a LEGAL course of action to get your product or money refunded.

Agreed. There is more than one Darin Haitsuka.  Probably more Dexter's too. Please think before you act.

Keep it legal.

Would we be able to lobby the NRA to revoke their pistol instructor certification?

No that's not the guy. This is him. https://www.facebook.com/drhawaii/posts/10153029036296173:1

Yep and check the post that was above that picture was a post about him dying (which has been reported to me as being fake).  Why someone would do that, idk... kind of lame.  :shaka:  ??? ::)

HE NOT DEAD  SEEN HIM IN MAY AT KHSC

Unless he passed on in the last couple of weeks, he's alive. I talked to him personally to get my refund.

I spoke to Darin twice on May 26 regarding my refund.  He's not dead but is most definitely hiding out now.

Guess he came back from the dead and deleted the post claiming he was dead.

I'm in, great idea, but...

... still might be interesting if everyone (needs to be enough people to get their interest) called or emailed KHON2. Could be the only way we get the real story.

...
Along this line, I turned on my tv this morning and saw a Hawaii on target commercial.
This was on METV which is the KITV4.2 secondary channel.
The commercial was probably paid for by you unfortunate customers. :(

HOT had a blurb about shooting a commercial on their facebook page. I was tempted to make the same comment to their followers.

I posted in the other thread but forgot to post here. In case anyone isn't reading that one.

Just thought I would update. I paid with a visa credit card and recently decided to submit a "transaction dispute" I provided all the info and email history of attempts to contact them. And included links to this forum. I submitted the paperwork on 6/9/16. And just received my approval for the reversed charge today. All of the $ is back on my card. I hope everyone that used a credit card tries this before it is too late. As far as I could tell the deadline is 60 days from the date the statement posted, that includes the transaction.

Even though I got the $ back. I am still pissed at Hawaii on Target and this guy Darin. I hope they end up in prison and their assets are seized to pay back those who paid cash.

Are there RUG merchants everywhere? People selling fake or junk stuff and trying to charge a high amount to someone who doesn't know anything about guns.

Some are honest and fair while others trying to over charge or sell people inferior products.

Too many shady people ripping people off.

Are you talking about H O T, or are you referring to some other "people"?

Getting more interesting every time.  Unfortunately sounds like  they'll go into bankruptcy and many of you will not see your money refunded.  When they first started I was hoping their plan of opening a training range would happen.  Another failed attempt.

"The police and ATF are looking for him."

"Looking"?  Seriously?   It's an island, and a big guy with family. This should take what, about an hour?

Wish I had seen this post about this company earlier.  For my situation I had put a deposit for a firearm back in July.  They assured me that they have confirmation of their stock to be sent in on the 13th of July. Day came and went and there was no contact from them.

I then contact them to ask what was going on. They said, “We received less than half of what we ordered.” Then I kept on contacting them on the status and what will go on. On the 19th they told me “There were production issues with the uppers we received.  We were promised a ship date of 7/28 as there are some corrections that need to be made to the uppers.” So the story went from receiving half of what they ordered to there was production issues on what they received. After that I just requested for a refund on my check.

Even with a refund check Im still getting the runaround.

If Hawaii on Target owes you guys anything and are wondering where they are now located, they are located at 1125 N King Street. Right under Loulen’s Restaurant there is a ramp that goes down. Right after the ramp they are located on the right.

I saw it for the first time on TV a few days ago.  I normally don't see many commercials since I watch mostly shows on DVR and skip commercials.  But I recall seeing one last night when I was watching the Olympics.  Seems like the commercials have been running for a while now.  I would think that took quite a bit of $$$ to keep the ad going for that long.  I'm assuming that the TV stations don't do that on credit/IOU.

I think those tv ads are only running on KITV and their secondary channels.
KITV has some restructuring challenges right now and their accounting may be behind.
What would be messed up is if somebody is still paying to run the ads and still taking in money from unsuspecting customers.
...
And btw their ads did not run during the Olympics (or any other time) on the local nbc station.
It was most likely KITV.

Update: a host of creditors are looking for Mr Darin Hisao Haitsuka. You can't stiff vendors out of tens of thousands of dollars without expecting some kind of legal reprisal. The gun community is large but also very small in that word spreads as to a persons or a company's reputation.

He could face some charges under your Hawaiian law.

In short if you have something to report, anything from shady business practices to downright theft on the part of Mr Haitsuka, report it ASAP.

My friend had a run in with Darin Haitsuka online. Years ago he cited his car he is with HPD Parking enforcement. Darrin outed him online in Stolen stuff Hawaii, it was quickly taken down by the Administrator Michael Kitchens. He was using a account linked to Dexter Chun it has a Elmo Character being tazed, he also has the Darin Haitsuka with the Confederate battle flag. I read his post he seems very full of himself, and seems to go out of his way for instigating situations and escalating them. My friend showed me the pictures and I of course recognized him right away and told him his name, I never dealt with him because of his reputation. He claimed my friend wrote a bogus tag but when I looked it up he got found guilty. I pity him because even though my friend is a meter maid he knows a lot of high ranking officers, and probably could get his info. I think that's a wonderful Idea showing up he owes some friends money. I like how he claims he is honest, trustworthy full of integrity well we all know don't we. As for the other Darin Haitsuka stand up guy bought a couple cars from him, If he is related to this Darin I pity him. Darin also had a theft 2 case if you go to the State Judiciary website.

Stay safe Aloha
