There's a ton of misinformation that gets spread on the internet daily, especially about carrying. This video is good about kit, thing like belts and holsters and the whys and hows.

CMO, you can skip the portion about RDS. T1C Axis Slim has been on the watchlist for awhile.

Originally I had a Glock 43 w 7 round mags.  Going to use that for deep concealment and when I go jogging.

I had a 43 with Taran Tactical Extensions and yes it conceals very well. The sub compacts are just too thin for me to get a solid master grip and I have smaller oriental size hands. I chose to go compacts because if I can't get a good master grip, the accuracy and speed will suffer. That I can not except if my love ones lives are on the line. I can not imagine riding MTB with my current carry though. Riding jumps, rock gardens, roots, etc... I don't know how I would do that so I can see the benefit of a light smaller weapon. Too late I don't have the 43 anymore   :D

I learned that SIG P320 10 round mags can be easily converted by simply grinding down a nub inside.  That tip will save me a couple hundred dollars in the future.

Many pistol magazines are similar. Sig P320 mags are expensive but they're good. The 21 rnd is a good backup mag but heavy if that's an issue

yups. I've learned a lot since first carrying a taser so same applies to handgun.

I went budget at first because the time spent carrying didn't justify the cost but I've learned a quality holster along with spending the time to adjust and tune it to you makes a huge difference. I have a lot of CCW holsters and have settled on AIWB piggy back mag style and I have 3 that i use. Last Line Of Defense the most comfortable, T-Rex Arms Sidecar 1.0 next, T-Rex Arms 2.0 the least comfy. I will say the 2.0 has a WML, RDS and more ammo capacity so not really comparing apples to apples. I would buy another LLOD Associate but they don't make one for the new carry.

John Correia from ASP did research in capacity and reloads in civilian (non LE) encounters.  Reloads are extremely rarely needed, less than 0.1% so greater mag capacity is more important.

I watch his channel often. Not for his comments nor tactics but just to see real life surveillance footage. It's surprising how many rounds get shot in a lot of his videos. I agree speed reload for a civilian not very likely but I can see a tactical reload happening often. I always want my gas tank full if I have the time and opportunity. Big thing is who's to say it's only one bad guy too. I'm a Boy Scout, I'd rather be prepared. To compliment the CCW, I'd want a carbine RTG in the trunk of my vehicle as well

I carry the VP9 in Vegas and since it's only a week, it's fine.  But for an EDC, I would want something smaller.

Looking at a G43X or Shield Plus due to the size and being able to carry 10rds.

I have a Smith and Wesson M&P9C that I would carry until I get to know what I want. I want to buy once cry once.  The reason why I'm not a fan of the 9C is because without the extended mag, the pinky hangs off. Not too much of an issue, but reloading takes a bigger break in the grip. So when you eject the mag, now the pinky hanging is noticable.  Plus with the mag blocked, it cannot  hold 10rds, but only 9 because the 10th round doesn't allow the mag to fit into a closed slide. This is the case for all 5 factory 10rd mags that I got from S&W.

Not a fan of the SIG 365 as the angle I don't like and the mush trigger.

Why premature? Carry is allowed in HI under certain circumstances and enviroments.

If you are looking at one CCW for every day, everything and everywhere, why limit yourself to 10 rounds? I carry 36 rounds on person in the freedom states and moore in the vehicle or bag. If HI ever allows carry, you can get 10 rounds mag for your "normal size" firearm. Why go sub compact? If you carry often, you will learn really quick the benefits of a high quality holster and taking the time to adjust it to you. A proper belt, adjusting the angle and position in which you carry as weil as accessories like Tier ! Concealed Wedges will make a huge difference in comfort as well as help with printing. Cheap is never good, good is never cheap....

One week of carry once in awhile won't teach you much. You need to try different things for many many many hours.

General Discussion / Re: Had it with Brownells
« on: July 04, 2022, 08:36:16 AM »
I've had one really bad experience with Brownells where my package took two months to arrive (all parts were in stock). Many calls and emails to customer service as well as to USPS and FedEx did not yield a quicker solution.

On the other hand I've had many times over great experiences with them. I have Brownells Edge so free shipping. Bottom line I'm not leaving because of that one horrible experience

MidwayUSA now ..... don't get me started

Cool.  I'm down.  I'll let you know.

I would like to get my CZ dialed in a little better and get chrono data, so my feelings aren't hurt as much.   ;D

Just send it. As you know, velo will only get you close. Every load needs to be trued because manufacturers exaggerate their BCs. I'll be there this weekend probably shooting private bays on Sun and Rifle Side on Mon pm

I am so against shooting for "groups", don't even get me started. Try shooting the USBR Green Monster Target or similar at 50y. That will show you how difficult it is to hit a 1/8" target at 50y consistently with a 22lr. I've seen a few whom tried this target, I've never seen anyone shoot a 2500 much less a 2500-25X. This target is the Gold Standard for 22lrBR shooters. None of the major BR associations shoots for groups in competition, they all shoot for score.

3500 fps in .223 Rem?  Gas gun?  That's humming. . .  :o
Yah it's a little warm...

1/8"?  Dayum.  I think the last time I shot a KYL target, smallest was 1/4".  Maybe slightly larger.  I'm always down to try and "let the target tell me".  But yeah, and non-std distances, one better know alot about their setup.  I'll have to chrono my 22lr ammo.
LMK I'll bring them out. I'm usually in #19 never shoot off a bench.
12
I've shot other folks' KYL targets.  I haven't shot Bushido's one though, but I'm down.  Bring your RPR  O0

Nothing fancy but my smallest swinger is 1/8". Most are zeroed at 50y which makes it a little easier at that distance. Putting it out at random distances makes them hella challenging. Your range finder, wind calls and ballistic app has to be spot on to hit it. Many have tried and failed hence the "Hurt your feelings" nickname. I haven't been shooting precision rimfire much for a few years but recently have been knocking some rust off

The colored water jugs is always interesting.  Esp if you shoot them with say HP or SP, vice FMJ.  Next time I see you, I can show you some testing we had done in the past with those with 5.56/.223.

So far my Varmit load doing 3400 fps produced the best results. 2 liter soda bottles unopened were very explosive. I might get the footage this weekend. I have my friend's load doing 3500 fps to try next.

Wind judgement, calls, etc is certainly not my strong suit.  Where I shoot long(er) ranges, the winds are often "switchy" and usually quite different at shooter and target (and in between) due to terrain.

This is always discussed on the "forums". Which is more important wind at shooter, midway, at target? It's all important IMO and I have my theories. The key is you have to shoot in all wind conditions to learn it.
15
I've heard many times that shooting 22lr at 100y is similar to shooting 400y with centerfire. Those keyboard snipers that post that likely haven't shot either. The drop may be similar but the wind effect on the POI is nowhere close. Wind affects centerfire much more horizontally whereas 22lr is of course horizonal but also more vertical than centerfire. The direction is determined if you have a right hand twist (most common) or left. At Koko Head shooting on the left, center, right side of the range changes your wind hold simply because of the berms and the lay of the land. It's challenging but a great leaning opportunity. If it was easy, everyone would shoot 200-20Xs

I got there a little before noon and shot until around 2. I also tried to wait until between the periods when the wind was kicking up for when I was shooting 3 shot groups for the tuner testing. Or at least similar winds for that group. Can’t say how much was the wind and how much was me, but I was happy that the new setup showed a lot of potential.

Once I get the tuner settled for this batch of ammo, I want to try shooting 1 shot drills on smaller targets during and day where winds are like today. Practice reading the winds.

I was there during the same time period shooting my duece dueces. There was some good conditions mixed in with the switching winds you just have to learn what to look for. When your 100y 22lr shooting in the wind becomes good, your long range centerfire shooting will go through the roof IME.

I think you spoke to my good friend about 22lr ammo, testing and expectations.

Firearms and Accessories / Re: First 1911 in 45
« on: May 21, 2022, 09:04:56 PM »
Shot the long awaited unicorn. About 320rds in 1 1/4 hours. She chewed everything, zero jams.

230gr for all, Federal, Fiocchi, Blazer, PMC Bronze and 20rds Federal HST. From wilson 10rders. Also ran a few 7rd Colt mags and no issues.

I did notice more carbon than the vp9 (9mm). Idk if cause its a tan gun or thats how 45acp is. Had carbon soot on my fingers also. Never had that with the vp9. The most i shot 9mm in 1 sitting was about 250ish. See below pics.

Also POA/POI seemed low, compared to the vp9 that ive only been shooting for 6 years now. At 15 yards, was like 5 inches low. Its prob the indian cause on a few that i 4got to take the safety off, the flinch was huge. Aiming with the front post higher (see pic below and far right example) seemed to help. I need to figure this out, mental block problem. For a 10r mag, like 3 were dead center and almost same hole and the other 7 were 5 inches low. Which leads me to believe its the indian.

The biggest getting used to is the safety. No problems engaging it when not shooting, its the forgetting to take it off when ready to shoot or taking it off when cocked and locked with no mag inserted. So i damn near bust my wrist trying to rack the slide after inserting a mag (u must disengage safety to rack).

Finger placement on the trigger seems more forgiving. With the vp9, too much finger and i yank the shot noticably.

Overall a fun gun that i will be shooting much more. Got choke ammo still. Next handgun skill builder, i will be using her instead of the vp9.

Thanks to all who followed this and helped along the way.

Mrs.cmo tried it and wasnt a fan. She does like our friends shadow 2 she shot today.

I got to give it a test drive. It shoots like expected.... damn good like a 1911 should.  :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

usually ends around 1pm
if you have to leave earlier, we ask that you let the staff know in the beginning, so they can plan for the end of the day challenge...

I'll shoot twice.  :geekdanc:

General Discussion / Re: Arizona CWP for Non-Resident
« on: April 14, 2022, 06:12:21 PM »
I've had my AZ CCW permit for many many years. On recent renewal, it took a really long time compared to normal. When I inquired on my status, they said they are severely backlogged due to massive increase in applications recently. I have for other states as well and they are also the same.

U gotta try Bushido's hurt feelings steel.

The "Hurt your feelings targets" will separate the men from the boys. Very very few have taken the challenge. Put them at unknown distances and that quadruples the skill and wind calls. Hella fun though
