He confused riding a train over the Francis Scott Key bridge with riding on a train with Francis Scott Key.

Easy mistake.

I've had mags blocked through LGS and variety of ways.  For polymer mags, a blocker in the follower, typically with epoxy.  That said, the epoxy has varying degress of "not readily restored".  Not sure if was the epoxy or the work to install, but some fell off before too long.  Of course, I made sure to make it "not readily restored" again. . .

For metal mags, they typically made a dimple that allowed only 10 rounds.

For competition, I have some mags with extended baseplates.  Yeah, better to have standard cap mags though. . . When traveling for competition or classes to free(er) states, standard cap mags are essential.  Otherwise you're jamming mags way to often.

I had to deal with that at Front Sight.  I was the odd man in my group without a shooting partner, so I got to shoot each exercise twice.

The problem was, having only 10 rds per mag, I was reloading like a Tasmanian Devil!  I had to sit out one or two volleys because I was still trying to reload.

Great practice -- at reloading magazines in record time!  My hands were sore, too, in spite of using a speed loader.

Like how some on this forum characterizes and often expresses dislike of what is Hawaiian culture as it has been generally portrayed?

I agree with your take, but it depends on cultural context.

Living in China, most people I dealt with don't care about the protection of personal liberties in the Western context.  However, perhaps the acquisition of wealth makes that issue a moot point as those with money are better able to enjoy life, which I suppose can be equated to personal liberty.

When you talk about culture, that's a mile away from talking about the people in general.

Not everyone espouses or adheres to a culture, but the culture exists.  Therefore, the culture is fair game for critique and criticism.  You're not lumping everyone in a demographic into that group -- just the ones who embrace that culture or some specific part of it.

There can be more than one culture within a race, population or other demographic.  Most people choose the cultures they embrace, such as guns and the Second Amendment, art, recreational drugs, religions, unlawful vices, etc.

You can be a practitioner of the Hawaiian culture and also be involved in the US gun culture.

I'm sure there are many of Hawaiian descent who don't embrace Hawaiian culture, especially if they moved away from the islands and like the culture where they are living.  Hard to maintain a culture when you and the people in your house are the only ones in 2,500 miles practicing it.

Obviously targeted at the gangsta demographic.

RFK probably lost a lot of independents with that VP pick. What a fool.

I've yet to see any voter stats on how many changed their mind based on the VP running mate.  You'd think that would make the news at some point.

Some believe voters only care about president, not vp.

Others believe while a VP running mate won't help the presidential candidate get votes, the wrong running mate can hurt them,  Again, no data to support that.

Unless there's a better than 50% chance the President won't survive his term, a VP pick is irrelevant -- unless you're looking down the road for when the VP runs for President.  But, that's a different election altogether.  it won't dissuade votes for the Presidential candidate now.

The running joke when a weak/poor VP candidate wins is that they were selected not as a good replacement if the president can't serve, but as an insurance policy against assassination of the president.

The content creator of this video is a foreigner and although living and marrying a Chinese woman, he is still definitely anti-China.  He judges China using his own Western values and ignores 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture.

Chinese people generally do not care about personal freedoms as does Western people.  The only personal freedom Chinese people universally cherish is wealth acquisition.  The Chinese economy is not doing as well as it has in its recent past due to US imperial sanctions to its own country and countries that it does business.  Naturally, domestic problems will arise in China which is exactly what the sanctions imposed by the US empire was meant to do.

One can express respect and acceptance of the Chinese people while simultaneously expressing a dislike for the Chinese government.

Anytime someone uses the word "generally" when describing a race or ethnicity, it flags that statement as a stereotype or oversimplification.

You say Chinese people "universally"  cherish wealth acquisition.  How does that exclude them from caring about personal freedoms?  In all cultures, money is power, and power is freedom.  Perhaps the acquisition of wealth is a means to an end:  Liberty.

Say if I go to a state where handgun mags can hold 10+. Could I buy magazines up there and before I fly back here I put a blocker (rod binded to spring that blocks follower from going down past 10 rounds, and epoxy the basepad) to make it permanent?

Might be a common suggestion here and this us my response
“Buy the factory 10 rounders”, those are short magazines 126mm and I like 140mm length for competition here and in general.

I have extra magazine rod blockers, i can buy epoxy so i wont have to pay a FFL/ gun store.

Pistol magazines that were made to hold >10 rounds are legal if they are blocked to only hold 10 rds.  So, yes, they are legal to bring back.

When you start asking about detailed procedures for blocking, it's best to talk to a LGS / gunsmith to see how they block mags to make them legal here.

I've seen articles on making mags legal for CA, and they take a roll pin made for a gas block, cut it in half, and insert it into a drilled hole to keep the base plate from being removed without tools and extra effort.  Here, however, permanent epoxy on the base plate is the norm.

Epoxy seems like overkill to me.  IMO

The HRS 134-8 section says:
Quote
This subsection shall not apply to magazines originally designed to accept more than
ten rounds of ammunition which have been modified to accept no more than ten rounds
and which are not capable of being readily restored to a capacity of more than ten rounds.

The plain English definition of "readily" includes "easily' and "quickly."  Nothing in the statute requires permanent affixing of the base plate.  Doing that prevents parts replacement and routine maintenance.

So, you can choose the 'just to be safe" path and use epoxy.  Or, you can use the "common sense" path and just make the base plate difficult and time-consuming to remove.

i don't think I've ever seen/read where anyone here was charged for having improperly blocked mags.  However, if HPD ever gets their hands on them, they will probably confiscate any they deem inadequate based on their own interpretation of the law.

As usual, if you're looking for a definitive answer, your best option is to consult an attorney.

There’s also quality in batteries. And prob how long said battery was on the shelf.

A buddy has their battery die when on the range recently. It was Holosun that he bought new recently. I would also expect the battery to be good, but no idea how long the battery was on the shelves at Holosun (or whichever company).

But yeah, best to change regularly. I have battery meters, but even those aren’t super reliable indicators.

But, if you’re like CMO, you’re proud when the optic fails and can experience it.  ;D

Seems like something turning the dot "off" could accomplish.

Not sure reloads have anything to do with red dots.

I've never had a RD stop working.  I make sure to turn them off when in the safe, and I replace the batteries once a year.  For the AimPoint PRO, it was a 2-year schedule.

In the grand scheme of things, batteries are a cheap, expendable item.  If you're waiting until it stops working it so you can save a dollar, you're setting yourself up for a visit from Mr. Murphy.

There are a lot of suicides here in Hawaii, but media outlets are not allowed to report it.
FYI

Yeah, i think that started in the 70s or so.  There were reports of high schoolers committing suicide, and others subsequently followed.  There appeared to be a pattern of suicide - reporting - more suicides.  It was theorized that publicizing suicides leads to copycats or might trigger a deeper depression in some which leads to suicide.

The press agreed to stop reporting suicides at all.

That "policy" may be changing -- starting in Australia.  Since the general mental health decline caused or exacerbated by the pandemic, some are arguing it's important to get these deaths publicized so we can talk about suicide to help others evaluate their own mental health.  Keeping suicides covered up may be doing more harm now than good, they say.

The way the media reports on suicide is changing — and it's about time

Tulsi's daddy switched from republican to democrat.  Tulsi switched from democrat to independent with conservative values.

Scott Saiki said there are two kinds of people who do that.  Basically one switches because they no longer support the party's foresight and values.  The other one switches out of convenience.

Happens all the time but all of us individually need to decide for ourselves what is their motivation that made them decide to genuinely switch.

That coincides with a phrase I've heard more and more the last 10-15 years:

I didn't leave the Democrat Party.  The Party left me.

The party has shifted so far Left, there's no room now for classic Liberals.  Either you're an extreme progressive that agrees with everything the Left espouses, or you're on the Right.  Having one opposing opinion gets you kicked out of the nest.  Climate Change, transgenders in women's sports / restrooms / locker rooms, abortion up to and after the moment of birth, stricter and stricter gun control, the war in Ukraine, using the justice system to prevent Trump from being elected to another term, and so on.

No better example than Biden:  "If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black."

You can now be kicked out of your race for disagreeing, too!   O0 O0

We had a pretty good discussion on theories of mass murder back in May of 2023.
https://2ahawaii.com/index.php?topic=49852.msg451859#msg451859

All good insight, but it would be nice if the media would do the same insightful journalism and stop blaming "gun culture."

The video dude also mentioned 2 suicides at the same hospital in one week.  As we know, mass murders are often a suicidal act that happens to involve killing others on the way out.  I suspect when viewed from this vantage point, the number of suicides is much higher than reported.

Maybe the government should issue free DIY Seppuku kits?

What if the situation is simpler than "crazy people run amok?

What if it's a combination of too many people in one densely populated area and one person gets the "road rage fever?"   The video offered no insight into the actual motivations of the perps, so for all we know, some of them could have been a driver experiencing a medical emergency.  Not all, but some.

This is one reason I hate the statistical comparison of mass shootings between the US and other countries.  Mass murders should be examined together without isolating only those involving guns.

cool stry bro

Yeah.  I probably would have never thought to contact them had I not read a similar story from someone else.  He was convinced he was the likely cause of the blade damage because of something he did wrong, yet the company was only concerned with gathering information for quality control and possible improvement.  They sent him a replacement with no hesitation at all.

I guess I'm hoping this helps someone else if they ever damage a Freud or Diablo product that carries that lifetime warranty.  Many of their blades are not cheap!

I found out the lifetime guarantee for Freud/Diablo saw blades is the real deal.

Had a slight kick-back while cutting a 1/4" thick piece of polycarbonate/plastic. The blade lost one entire tooth down to the main part of the blade, and 3 lost their carbide teeth.

I contacted Diablo through their website form, and a rep, Jennifer, replied in less than a day.  She asked for a description of what happened, and then asked for photos of the blade, my miter saw, and the piece that caused the kick-back.

The next day, she emailed a UPS label for me to return the blade and the damaged workpiece for them to examine, and then shipped out a replacement via UPS due to arrive next week.

Great customer service.  They stand behind their warranty, and the replacement process was quick and easy.

Violence Prevention Group Sued After
Man is Shot and Killed During Meeting

Quote
A Seattle gun violence prevention organization is being sued by the family of a man who
was shot and killed during a court-mandated appearance at a meeting, accusing the group
of failing to provide proper security.

19-year-old Omari Wallace was facing robbery charges in King County, Washington, but
prosecutors allowed him to be diverted into a program run by Community Passageways
in lieu of incarceration. While Wallace was attending an orientation meeting in March of 2021,
a man walked into the meeting at Emerald City Bible Fellowship and shot Wallace in a targeted
attack. The suspect himself was shot and killed by police while they were serving an arrest
warrant for homicide, but there were no officers at the meeting itself, even though Community
Passageways deals with a lot of individuals who've been accused and convicted of violent crimes.

According to court documents and news reports, there were nearly 40 people in attendance
when Hinds entered the Rainier Valley church and shot Wallace. The lawsuit alleges Community
Passageways “failed to take reasonable measures to ensure that the participants … were safe
from harm.” It also names the church and Urban Impact, another Washington nonprofit, as
defendants.

The action claims that after the shooting, Community Passageways staff and members refused
to cooperate with investigators, forcing then-King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg to
empanel a rare special inquiry to obtain documents, interviews and other information police say
they needed for the investigation.

“Both law enforcement and the community at large were bewildered how staff from the Community
Passageways, a violence-prevention program which receives millions of dollars in public funding,
could watch a murder committed before their eyes and not assist law enforcement,” the lawsuit states.

Since I'm a legal resident of WA state,
have a WA state CCW license,
and I refuse to register any gun I may own, with the state of
Hawaii,  and the CCW hoops are BS and CCW licenses useless after all
new "safe" zones your governments have created,
what do you suggest?
I know that sentence is too long.
Airplane tickets are cheap.

I "suggest" that you calling a pistol your concealed carry doesn't have any meaning in this context.  If you can't get to it in a pinch, it might as well not exist.

Maybe coin a new term?  Perhaps "Out-of-State Carry (OSC)'?  That's pretty much what carry pistols were for those of us who carried them while on travel to the mainland.  The big differrence is it was still a viable home defense option here when not traveling.
