Legal and Activism / Re: Sensitive places lawsuit donations
« on: August 10, 2023, 09:04:57 AM »
Mahalo for posting this. I checked the link and was surprised to find out we’re still far away from the $20k goal. I honestly expected to have already surpassed the goal by now and have the reserve for the next legal fight in court.

This forum has got a few hundred members and how about $5 each at the least? That’s a cup of coffee we spare for something we truly want for a very long time; and we have outstanding individuals actually representing all of us and isn’t this is a win for us all already?

I believe in helping those who help me and thanking them also.

I already donated what I comfortably could. But I have a pledge to make. I will donate $1 for each 2AHI member who donates at least $10 between today 8/10 through 8/12 midnight, up to $1000.  So, if a 2AHI member donated $10 or more, message me a screenshot of your donation with your name, initials, or 2AHI username as donor so I can verify, and I will make $1 donation on 8/15.  I will make a one-time donation on 8/15 up to $1000 after I get a full count of those who participated.  You can donate multiple $10 but I will only put $1 per 2AHI member/donor.  I can post a screenshot of my donation on 8/15 if needed for transparency.  Mahalo!

Well then??? And I better pass on my coffee drinks for the next couple months or so but it will be so much worth it.

This is the Wolford, HIFICO, et al. CCW lawsuit challenging

-Beaches/parks
-Restaurants that serve alcohol
-All private property

The state is using DC lawyers.

Many wanted CCW for decades, and now that we have it, the state and counties ban ccwing EVERYWHERE.  We are fighting this.

Shooting at Thomas Square…

Got the polishing compounds and used the black then the green on AUS8, S30V, and ar rpm9 steels. All I got shaving sharp. The S30V took a little more work but not bad. Have to practice more. Good results so far

Glad stropping seems to be working well for you.  I have to remind myself when is enough or how sharp is sharp enough.  I spent a lot of time reprofiling blades because I didn’t know when to stop working them on my whetstones.  Stropping kind of fixed this for me because my knives stay sharp longer, and I’m also smarter now to avoid bones and to stay easy on the chopping board.

Collard greens are easy to grow, hard to kill and keep producing.

When I was a kid on Molokai in the early sixties, the poi factory there would sell a 3.5 bag of poi for $1.00.

I used to travel all over the Hawaiian islands a lot for work and Molokai is a special place. I stayed there a couple weeks at a time annually for many years. A vendor sold poi for $2.50 per tub to fill up my large cooler as I traveled back to Oahu. Plenty of Molokai bread too always a best seller!  I miss the people there such a special place!

Another good read. I met a knife/blade and whetstone dealer many years ago and he basically introduced me to what my wife say obsession with crazy-sharp knives (mainly kitchen knives, butcher, skinning, etc.) Even my mom who loves sharp knives stays away from my sharp knives, lol.  Anyhow, I stay away from jnats (Japanese natural stones) as they need special talent to use those that I can’t seem to figure out how. I use natural whetstone equivalent around 3000 and 6000, and 12000 finishing and use Japanese nagura/slurry (best in my opinion).  Then strop my knives with leather or balsa wood after rubbing green polishing compound (bought from Amazon).  As long as I did the correct sharpening of my knives (no burrs etc) all I do after is strop unless I messed up the blade with improper use.

If you’re interested I can share a little of the green polishing compound and you bring your leather or balsa wood.  I rub the compound on either and you’ll notice how sharp the blade gets after only a couple of strops.  A little of the compound goes a long way.

Again as long as the blade was sharpened correctly, all it needs is stropping as maintenance. You’ll eventually need to resharpen the blade to maintain proper geometry, but that’s after a long while.

I think the dealer is still on the island and I’m happy to introduce you to him.  He may have ideas or products for edc blades and maintenance.  He introduced me to the world of sharp knives and whetstones and now I collect whetstones. Don’t have to buy from him and he won’t rip you off either.

Aloha!

Sharing another:
We’ve been making our own “laundry detergent/soap” for over 10 years now.  We make 5-gallon batches and average cost to make that is less than $5.  We use 8-16oz per load and lasts us several weeks or few months.  Smells good and smells clean.  Fabric is soft so no need softener.
You can google the ingredients and formulas but what we use are: 1 zote bar soap finely grated, 2 cups washing soda,  1.5 cups borax, and 1 cup oxi-clean powder (optional).  Melt the soap in water over medium heat. Once melted, mix the dry ingredients until all are dissolved, then pour in 5-gal bucket. Fill the bucket with warm water and stir.
All can be bought locally from Walmart.
This is a money-saver for us for sure.

Good idea. Do you let the carcass hang and age for a bit before you process?

Certain parts of carcass I let hang for 3 days, 1 week tops. I only buy young cow so the meat is naturally tender. The fat content is average so 3 days should be good but I do let it hang up to 7 days on occasion.

Yeah but who like end up with the hind quarter.  Ok, I take one for the team and buy all the hind quarters for 50 cents a lb. My dogs will be happy.

Would normally cut the cow in the middle so more or less 50:50.  Either 50:50 on the innards or one takes it all and the other gets the head and trotters up to the beginning of the front/rear shank plus the tail.  Then alternate on the next trip depending.  Heart, liver, and lungs are my favorite and kids get the best part of the liver and heart.  My dog gets a piece of everything; his favorite the trachea and tripe.

Hello all. Good to be back! Enjoyed reading your posts.   I personally buy live young cow and process it myself. Whole cow costs approx. $1.10/lb at an average of 400lbs.  Nothing goes to waste.  I oftentimes split the meat 50/50 with a friend so meat doesn’t stay in my freezer too long. Best part is I get to eat the beef cuts I want at a fraction of the cost.
Oh, also, my old mentor says just earn more money and spend wisely.  He didn’t say anything about saving money…
Aloha!

Tax on tourists?  Will a portion of the tax dollars be put to making Hawaii safer and less crime toward tourists, cleaner streets and less unsightly (trash, pot holes, homelessness, etc) beach bathrooms maintained and cleaned, etc… Tourists may not feel that bad about the additional tax if the counties can show these improvements.

An example of modern or contemporary warfare. imagine how many hundreds or thousands of cyber attacks superpowers have to defend against on a daily basis. Imagine how a defense system can become a “prized” target for cyber attacks. It’s unlikely to happen, but it will be all over when this does happen. In the mean time, it would be a lifetime goal to be able live off the land.

That’s a good observation. Coworkers and I talk about all kinds of hobbies but nothing about target shooting or hunting or reloading.  I don’t talk firearms or 2A related at work.  It seems a sensitive topic and one of those better-not-to-talk-about. Maybe it’s the time and place we live in.

I’m careful to remind my kids not to talk to anyone (friends, strangers, neighbors, classmates, teachers, their grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, yes including them, ... anyone) about what we do or have including firearms related.

General Discussion / Re: FFL transfer vs On Island Purchase
« on: June 06, 2021, 11:40:44 AM »
March of this year.. believe me, I looked on their website and saw the same thing when I was going thru this.. I wanted them to send it somewhere else but they said no matter what it was going to cost at least 350 because they had to do the paperwork to receive it. The guy I talked to on the phone was rude and all he said was “well someone has to pay for it”

Sounds like this is something you can post as a complaint on their BBB profile.  If they didn’t accept FFL transfers at that time  they could have easily rejected the package and informed you that. You’d then contact the carrier to change shipping address and pay $25-$50.  Will leave you a couple hundred $ for accessories or ammunition.

Just don’t send your FFL transfer to Xring, they charged me almost $400 to do a transfer

Wow! I hope there were at least 10 firearms in that transaction, or somewhat special transfers. Never thought it was that outrageous at xring. I know the owner professionally.

General Discussion / CA assault weapons ban unconstitutional

A friend who lives in CA was just complaining about not having the “cool” rifles he wants to have... he may have a better chance of getting these rifles now.
