Well first some good news. We had 78 people testify against State Senate Bill SB642 on Tuesday. Well done. The bad news is only 78 testified in opposition. The initiators of this bill asked for a continuance (delay) in the hearing after seeing how much opposition there was to it.
The following is directed those of you who have not yet testified. There is still time (1PM Thursday Feb 5th). Please read this 'word for word' excerpt from SB462:
If any applicant is denied a permit, the chiefs of police of the respective counties shall send, by certified mail, a notice setting forth the reasons for the denial and [may] shall require that the applicant [voluntarily surrender all firearms and ammunition to the chief of police where the applicant resides or] dispose of all firearms and ammunition[.] and provide a sworn statement to the chief of police that the applicant has disposed of all firearms and ammunition in the applicant's possession. The chief of police shall search all applicable records to determine whether the applicant has been issued any permits to acquire or has registered any firearms. If [an] the applicant fails to [voluntarily surrender or] dispose of all firearms and ammunition within thirty days from the date notice was mailed, the chief of police [may] shall seize all firearms and ammunition
What this means is that if you unwitingly apply for a 'permit to acquire a handgun' for a firearm that is not legal in the State of Hawaii and they deny it, (as they should according to current laws), "...the chiefs of police... shall ...require that the applicant (to) dispose of all firearms and ammunition."
There is still time to stop this bill. If you have not testified as of yet, PLEASE, PLEASE do so NOW. Simple instructions on how to testify are found below.
They will come take your firearms away!
