Welcome to first report on the HKNB of 2016!
Fortunately, there isn't anything to report regarding the range! The only mention was by GK in regards to the planned new route for the Century bike ride and whether or not it would interfere with people getting to the range.
They said it shouldn't, and I have to say, I thought it was nice of GK to ask about it. Feels kind of weird saying that.
Actually, the meeting ran pretty long, but it was due to a full schedule, not GK. He ran the meeting smoothly, without interrupting, interjecting his opinions, or any long winded diatribes. He kept it to the business at hand, recognized the other board members quickly and moved things along as needed. I think it was the smoothest, most productive meeting I've ever seen him chair. I could definitely get used to it. I'm, guardedly, impressed.
I arrived about 10 minutes late and missed HPD and HFD.
There was the Century bike ride discussion, a presentation about the wash down station changes at the bay, something about an SPCA clinic in the area, one of the guys from Friends of Haunama Bay on noisy moped regulation, etc.
The most interesting thing at the state level was Rep. Wards announcement that NOAA has given up on it's bid to snatch control of Maunalua Bay for the feds in the face of opposition from the community. Laura Thielands bill to require state contractors to submit proof that they've disposed of their construction waste in accordance with the law before getting paid was also welcome news.
Since it seems we'll be facing a busy year in the state legislature, let's all hope that things stay as quiet on this front as they were this month!
Aloha,
