Some background:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado_recall_election,_2013Interesting to note, for your strategy purposes, the tactical ins and outs of this battle. Suits and injunctions galore.
Some States' statutes ( I assume Hawai'i, too) prohibit recall elections. I wonder if some of these States might be vulnerable to Referenda to change those laws.
It is argued that the proper avenue to depose "bad" lawmakers is in upcoming elections, but too often scurrilous behavior on the part of lawmakers must be stopped immediately.
I will say that except for the fact that the "replacement" lawmakers were defeated in the next election, this was a very successful campaign. It put the fear into a lot of our lawmakers who felt that since they had the majority and a compliant Governor (Hickenlooper, Democrat) they could run amok during the legislative sesssions, passing whatever garbage they liked.
I, for one, would like to see every political office subject to strict term limitations so that we could return to "citizen-politicians" instead of "career-politicians."
In my dream world, I would also like to see a requirement that for every law passed, two have to be repealed. But that's just a joke with a point to it rather than a realistic proposal.
