Safes: Digital vs Mechanical
« on: September 08, 2016, 04:07:18 PM »
I only own a rifle cabinet and will soon need to purchase a "real" rifle safe. What are your thoughts on rifle safes that are mechanical type such as combination, simplex, or keyed safes (not locker/cabinets) versus the digital keypads / fingerprints? I feel weary on purchasing a battery, digital keypad type. Hard part of being in Hawaii is low selection or no shipping and almost all the safes I've run across in a store were digital.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

All of my safes have combination dials, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Be opened with a key. I would have
Prefered a mechanical lock, but haven't
Had any problems with the electric combo.

lol

and yeah, lowe's has them sometimes, but they sell out fast
see if you can do online ordering to pick up in store
or keep on going back and bothering the people in that section to check when the next shipment is getting in and see if they will reserve one for you

Alot of keypad safes have SG locks on them and can be easily replaced with mechanical SG dial combo locks.  I replaced mine.  After seeing the digital mechanisms small parts, I'm glad I changed it.  Setting your own combo is easy too.

S&G 6730 runs about 80 bucks
