From Dlnr site all hunters need a license
So I take it means that my kid has to take/pass the hunters education class.
Is there a minimum age to take the class? When I took the class it was with the other old farts in HRA so I didn’t see any kids in the class.
He is 12 and I’m hoping to take him bird hunting to get him off the video games

To obtain a hunting license, you need to either have a Hunter Certification card saying you passed the Hawaii Hunter's Ed class, or a letter exempting you from having the card based on taking an out-of-state class. Depending on what you are hunting, you may also need a permit.
As for age limits to take the class:
You must be 16 years old to take the class on your own.
If you are 10 years old the day the class starts, you may take the class with an adult chaperone.

Flapp - thanks! I’ll sign him up. I’m surprised 10 yo are allowed to hunt. I was thinking at least middle school
Drck - that place was packed! The instructors made it fun. That poor instructor that didn’t take a deer on his Lanai bow hunt. Good thing he had thick skin
