Our last legal option to shoot on Kauai has been closed. Do any of you have an idea of how to get a public range started? Who to contact or write to to get the ball rolling.
Thanks for the ideas.

Start a petition. Go around asking door to door for people to sign a petition to show support that the community wants and needs a range. You need to show there is demand.
Perhaps talk with various gun clubs/organizations/local PD even maybe(they need somewhere to train too) to see if they would support the efforts to open a range.
Talk to your representatives and voice your concern.
Most of all, you need to get the support, or at least show the powers that be, that there is tremendous support and a need for a range on Kauai. If you can get people on board to help then even better.
Question: Why did they close the range?

Agricultural land is zoned for shooting.

Long story short a complaint from a school several miles and ridges away put an end to that.
Got you on the need to rally the troops.

Isn't the whole island a shooting range? There's a lot of people with huge lands and fields that aren't even being used...I lived there a couple of years and the cops are awesome. :shaka:

I've shot on North Shore here, and people shoot in Wahiawa. As long as rounds are not leaving the property there is no reckless endangerment. Check with county laws and likely an attorney if you intend to do it regularly.
Start shooting, the cows will leave lol.
