Title: Trausch grips purchase challenges
Post by: passivekinetic on August 09, 2013, 03:41:27 PM
I couple of people PMed me regarding purchase of Trausch grips, which I earlier asked about.

I am looking for them for my Beretta 92 (specifically, the 92A1). I don't like the grip size of the frame (as compared to my Glocks which I shoot well), and I have already tried a few other grips including Alumagrips (aluminum) and Hogue (rubber) grips.

The Trausch are supposed to be the thinnest grips for the 92FS platform.

So here is the problem:

Nobody seems to sell these except Trausch.

But the Trausch website does NOT have security protection for entering your credit card details. It is not a secured HTTP link, and I am concerned that when you fill in the Web page with your full credit card details, it is just sending the information out in the clear to their side (maybe even merely as an email to them in plain text).

I have emailed, tried to call, and even faxed them. No reply.

Calling just gets their answering machine to leave a message.

So, this is where we are.

Their funky website

Click on ORDER under MENU on the left side.

Techie note: If you open the order form as a separate frame, you can see the URL is still unprotected:

If your credit card company/bank offers one-time-use "virtual" credit card numbers for online purchases, that's a good way to go.

Hey bro - never heard of that! Please tell me more.

I had been thinking to buy those credit cards (pre paid) at the Long's but never did. Seems like you have to pay maybe $6 to use, etc. which is fine, but I just never got around to doing it.

AND I am not even 100% sure Trausch will respond.

BTW your user name... from Star Trek? Unless I am mistaken. (Shows how much of a geek I am huh!)

Yep.  One of the more interesting episodes from The Next Generation.   :geekdanc:

You need to go online to your bank's website or credit card company site.  If they offer this, you simply request a one-time number.  Use that for the purchase.  If someone tries to use that number again, it will be denied.  It's not your regular card information, so no way to have your ID or banking information stolen or misused.

Looks like:

In the USA, these include Bank of America (which inherited its system, "ShopSafe," when it acquired MBNA), Citibank ("Virtual Account Numbers"), Discover Card's Secure Online Account Numbers and NetSpend's "virtual accounts".

Well, still, no help that Trausch seems non-responsive.

Seriously though I might consider making my own grips from hardwood or some plastic.

I might even just get some other grips and file them down some.

From YouTube comments:

I just called one of the retailers and they had told me that Mr. Trausch had passed away and that all US retailers were sold out. So I'm curious as to how you acquired these and when.

ok i bought one set of mine litterally days before Mr Trausch passed away. He apparently died in his shop. another pair i bought on ebay. i tried to call the number listed on the website as the USA distributor but got a recording in french that i could not understand. i may have called at a bad time though so you can always try that. Have you tried ordering from the website?. it still seems to be taking orders. best of luck. let me know what happens please

I don't know if this helps, and I don't know much about Berettas, but these are my favorite aftermarket composite grips.

They do have some for the Beretta 92.

I use these on all of my 1911s.

Thanks for the heads up. I will put this on the list.

In the meantime I bought Vertec grips; from searching it seems they work with the 92.
