Has anyone tried cut shells with birdshot. ?
Where you score/cut the shell about halfway down so the shell flies with the shot and keeps the shot together until impact.
-
Get some Remington 'Sluggers' from OGC. The high velocity ones.

factory birdshot the lighter the shot the lighter the recoil.I buy birdshot from SA,seems to be the cheapest. $7.99 2 3/4,1oz,7 1/2 shot and use that for shooting trap.if you reload you can do anything you want.next week im gonna trya load on 14gr of green dot with 7/8 of 7.5 shot

cut shells can jam on you in a crisis. for fun they are ok. I'd rather do hotglue slugs which I think are better/easier to make then wax slugs.
sadly everywhere in Hawaii is expensive for any ammo. cost about 2X as much as the mainland (I use to buy boxes of 100 shells to shoot off just for fun all the time for like 20 bucks a pop).
personally, I look for the heaviest hitting slugs or 00buck possible (cuz im not a pussy and they are fun to shoot!), most places don't carry them though.
if you want low recoil, buy a .22lr; If you wanna have some fun, buy some high brass max dram slugs!

if 00buck or slugs are beating you up, you just have to learn how to hold and shoot a shotgun correctly. 12 year old girls can handle those loads!

Long, long time ago I tried that type of load, we used to call it a "Quincy" load. It never hurt the barrel of my shotgun, but then again it's cylinder bore (30" full cut down to 18 1/2")
When we fired it into a gallon jug the water seemed to vaporize and the jug was blown flat. As I recall, only a small percentage of the #8 shot actually penetrated the back of the jug--very, very impressive hydrostatic shock effect.
I also fired one of these homemade loads into a 6" kiawe branch from about 10 yards--there was a 12 gauge hole blown completely through the branch--cool!
After that I really didn't have much use for them so I quit making them.
BTW, I would advise you not to carry such loads into a hunting area--it not strictly forbidden but do you want to go through the hassle and expense of fighting the DLNR in court should they find such loads on you in a hunting area?

They don't, I know how to shoot shot guns..
I am making fun of you because you sound like a fool saying "I'm not a pussy, I only shoot 3" slugs"...haha..awesome

um no, I said I like to shoot 3 inch shells, they hold more powder and they hold more shot. I'd rather have 15 pellets rather then 9 coming out of the barrel.

Compensating?

Umm and you still felt the need to claim "I am not a pussy"

Thanks for the info JC.
I was thinking about trying them out of my double barrel as jamming shouldn't be a problem.
Having the gun blow up in my face is a concern though.
